Reaction of Amide and Sodium Azide for the Synthesis of Acyl Azide, Urea, and Iminophosphorane

Efficient and Sustainable Electrosynthesis of N-Sulfonyl Iminophosphoranes by the Dehydrogenative P-N Coupling Reaction

Iminophosphoranes are commonly used reagents in organic synthesis and are, therefore, of great interest. An efficient and sustainable iodide-mediated electrochemical synthesis of N-sulfonyl iminophosphoranes from readily available phosphines and sulfonamides is reported. This method features low amounts of supporting electrolytes, inexpensive electrode materials, a simple galvanostatic setup, and high conversion rates. The broad applicability could be demonstrated by synthesizing 20 examples in yields up to 90%, having diverse functional groups including chiral moieties and biologically relevant species. Furthermore, electrolysis was performed on a 20 g scale and could be run in repetitive mode by recycling the electrolyte, which illustrates the suitability for large-scale production. A reaction mechanism involving electrochemical mediation by the iodide-based supporting electrolyte is proposed, completely agreeing with all of the results.

Ring Opening of N-Acyl Lactams Using Nickel-Catalyzed Transamidation

We successfully developed a nickel-catalyzed transamidation method for the ring opening of N-acyl lactams. The method involves a reaction between N-benzoylpyrrolidin-2-one derivatives and aniline derivatives, with Ni(PPh3)2Cl2 serving as the catalyst, 2,2'-bipyridine as the ligand, and manganese as the reducing agent. This reaction led to the formation of ring-opening-amidated products in good yields. Notably, the method exhibited excellent efficiency for producing the corresponding ring-opening transamidation products for various ring sizes, including four-, five-, six-, seven-, and eight-membered ring lactams.

Reductive cross-coupling of N-acyl pyrazole and nitroarene using tetrahydroxydiboron: synthesis of secondary amides

We report on a new method for the synthesis of amides using acyl pyrazoles and nitroarenes under reducing conditions. It was found that acyl pyrazoles react with organo-nitro compounds in the presence of B2(OH)4, giving the corresponding amides in good yields. We demonstrated that benzoyl pyrazoles having various substituents and nitroarenes with different substituents can be used to produce a range of N-substituted benzamides. The method shows good functional group tolerance and has potential application in the synthesis of a variety of organic molecules.

2-Benzamide Tellurenyl Iodides: Synthesis and Their Catalytic Role in CO2 Mitigation

Benzamide-derived organochalcogens (chalcogen=S, Se, and Te) have shown promising interest in biological and synthetic chemistry. Ebselen molecule derived from benzamide moiety is the most studied organoselenium. However, its heavier congener organotellurium is under-explored. Here, an efficient copper-catalyzed atom economical synthetic method has been developed to synthesize 2-phenyl-benzamide tellurenyl iodides by inserting a tellurium atom into carbon-iodine bond of 2-iodobenzamides in one pot with 78-95 % yields. Further, the Lewis acidic nature of Te center and Lewis basic nature of nitrogen of the synthesized 2-Iodo-N-(quinolin-8-yl)benzamide tellurenyl iodides enabled them as pre-catalyst for the activation of epoxide with CO2 at 1 atm for the preparation of cyclic carbonates with TOF and TON values of 1447 h-1 and 4343, respectively, under solvent-free conditions. In addition, 2-iodo-N-(quinolin-8-yl)benzamide tellurenyl iodides have also been used as pre-catalyst for activating anilines and CO2 to form a variety of 1,3-diaryl ureas up to 95 % yield. The mechanistic investigation for CO2 mitigation is done by 125 Te NMR and HRMS studies. It seems that the reaction proceeds via formation of catalytically active Te-N heterocycle, an ebtellur intermediate which is isolated and structurally characterized.
