Abstract
The palladium-catalyzed highly regioselective asymmetric allylic alkylation of 3'-indolyl-3-oxindole derivatives with Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates was developed to facilely construct chiral 3,3'-bisindole derivatives under mild reaction conditions. The regioselectivity (α/γ) of MBH carbonates was efficiently switched in the presence of chiral oxalamide phosphine or spiroketal-based diphosphine/Pd(0) complexes as a chiral catalyst. A series of multifunctional 3,3'-bisindole derivatives with all-carbon quaternary stereogenic centers were obtained in high yields with good to excellent enantio-, diastereo-, and regioselectivity. The present process is endowed with some salient features such as broad substrate scope, N-protecting group-free, excellent stereoselectivity, as well as adjustable regioselectivity.

Abstract
Covering up to 2021Complex cyclotryptamine alkaloids with a bispyrrolidino[2,3-b]indoline (BPI) skeleton are an intriguing family of natural products, exhibiting wide systematic occurrences, large structural diversity, and multiple biological activities. Based on their structural characteristics, BPI alkaloids can be classified into chimonanthine-type BPI alkaloids, BPI diketopiperazines, and BPI epipolythiodiketopiperazines. These intricate molecules have captivated great attention soon after their isolation and identification in the 1960s. Due to the structural complexity, the total synthesis of these cyclotryptamine alkaloids is challenging. Nevertheless, remarkable progress has been achieved in the last six decades; in particular, several methods have been successfully established for the construction of vicinal all-carbon quaternary stereocenters. In this review, the structural diversity and chemical synthesis of these BPI alkaloids were summarized. BPI alkaloids are mainly synthesized by the methods of oxidative dimerization, reductive dimerization, and alkylation of bisoxindole. The purpose of this review is to present overall strategies for assembling the BPI skeleton and efforts towards controlling the stereocenters.

Abstract
Cu-bisoxazoline-catalyzed enantioselective decarboxylative aldol reaction of tryptanthrin with aryl-substituted β-keto acids is developed, providing a straightforward approach to deliver a series of phaitanthrin A analogues. Both enantiomers of the products can be obtained with good to high enantioselectivity in the presence of a single chiral ligand by simply changing the copper salts. Based on the X-ray crystallographic analysis of chiral Cu(II)-bisoxazoline complexes, the tentative stereochemical models are presented to account for the observed counteranion-induced switching in enantioselectivity.

Abstract
The asymmetric catalytic synthesis of 3-cyclotryptamine substituted oxindoles through formal [4 + 2] cycloaddition/cyclization cascade is described. A wide range of cyclotryptamine derivatives were obtained in enantioenriched form under mild reaction conditions and were found to have potential anticancer activity. The strategy enables ready assembly of cyclotryptamine subunits at the C3a-C3a' positions with two quaternary stereogenic centers in cis-selectivity, leading to the concise synthesis of optically active cis-bis(hexahydropyrroloindole) and others of the cyclotryptamine alkaloid family.

Abstract
Fragment coupling reactions that form carbon-carbon bonds are valuable transformations in synthetic design. Advances in metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions in the early 2000s brought a high level of predictability and reliability to carbon-carbon bond constructions involving the union of unsaturated fragments. By comparison, recent years have witnessed an increase in fragment couplings proceeding via carbanionic and open-shell (free radical) intermediates. The latter has been driven by advances in methods to generate and utilize carbon-centered radicals under mild conditions. In this Review, we survey a selection of recent syntheses that have implemented carbanion- or radical-based fragment couplings to form carbon-carbon bonds. We aim to highlight the strategic value of these disconnections in their respective settings and to identify extensible lessons from each example that might be instructive to students.

Abstract
Herein we describe an organocatalytic protocol for the asymmetric synthesis of β,β-diaryl ketones. Under the catalysis of a chiral phosphoric acid, 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohols underwent dehydration to form para-quinone methides, which reacted with β-keto acids in 1,6-addition reactions. Upon treatment with Et3N in one-pot, decarboxylation proceeded to provide the desired chiral ketones in nearly quantitative yields with high enantioselectivities.

A wide range of chiral mixed 3,3'-bisindole scaffolds containing an all-carbon quaternary stereogenic center were obtained in high yields and with excellent enantioselectivities. 3,3'-Bisindoles are valuable synthetic intermediates, the employment of which led to formal total syntheses of (+)-Chimonanthine, (+)-Folicanthine and (-)-Calycanthine, as well as facile creation of useful pyrrolidinoindoline core structure.

Abstract
A direct Csp3-H methylenation of 2-arylacetamides using DMF/Me2NH-BH3 as the methylene source was developed. The formyl group of DMF delivered the carbon and one hydrogen atoms, and the Me2NH-BH3 donated the remaining one hydrogen atom. This protocol offers a new alternative to make useful 2-arylacrylamides from simple starting materials.

Abstract
An organocatalytic asymmetric decarboxylative Mannich reaction of β-keto acids with cyclic α-ketiminophosphonates has been developed. By using saccharide-derived bifunctional amine-thiourea catalysts bearing an axial chiral binaphthyl scaffold, a wide range of quaternary α-amino-γ-oxophosphonates were obtained in up to 93% yield and >99% ee. Furthermore, two interesting α-aminophosphonate derivatives were synthesized from the corresponding decarboxylative Mannich product via simple transformations.

Abstract
An organocatalytic asymmetric decarboxylative amination reaction of β-keto acids is described. Under mild reaction conditions, a series of chiral α-amino ketones were obtained in good to high yields (up to 99%) and enantioselectivities (up to 95% ee). A chiral 1,2-amino alcohol was synthesized from the corresponding decarboxylative amination product in several steps without loss of enantioselectivity.
