Abstract
A range of 2,4-dialkylidenetropinone-derived quaternary ammonium salts smoothly reacted with thiols in the presence of tributylamine, delivering structurally diverse thiolated 2,7-disubstituted tropones in moderate to excellent yields with high site selectivity. The reaction employs readily available feedstocks and reagents, is free of transition metals, tolerates various functional groups, and can be easily scaled up.

Abstract
A Lewis-acid-promoted domino ring-opening cyclization of readily available donor-acceptor cyclopropanes with a preinstalled electrophilic center, embedded in a donor group, to functionalized 1,2-dihydronaphthalenes is reported herein. The obtained compounds are transformed to pharmacologically attractive bridged tricyclic esters in a diastereospecific manner.

Abstract
Tropone is the prototypical aromatic 7-membered ring, and can be found in virtually any undergraduate textbook as a key example of non-benzenoid aromaticity. Aside from this important historical role, tropone is also of high interest as a uniquely reactive synthon in complex chemical synthesis as well as a valuable chemotype in drug design. More recently, there has been growing interest in the utility of tropones for catalysis and material science. Thus, synthetic strategies capable of synthesizing functional tropones are key to fully exploiting the potential of this aromatic ring system. Cycloaddition reactions are particularly powerful methods for constructing carbocycles, and these strategies in turn have proven to be powerful for generating troponoids. The following review article provides an overview of strategies for troponoids wherein the 7-membered carbocycle is generated through a cycloaddition reaction. Representative examples of each strategy are also provided.

Abstract
The stereoselective formation of tetrasubstituted alkenes remains one of the key goals of modern organic synthesis. In addition to other methods, the stereoselective synthesis of tetrasubstituted alkenes can be achieved by means of cross-coupling reactions of electrophilic and nucleophilic alkene templates. The use of electrophilic templates for the stereoselective synthesis of tetrasubstituted alkenes has previously been described. Therefore, the present review summarizes the procedures available for the stereoselective preparation of tetrasubstituted alkenes using stable and isolable nucleophilic templates.

Abstract
The synthesis of functionalized aromatic compounds is a central theme of research for modern organic chemistry. Despite the increasing finesse in the functionalization of five- and six-membered aromatic rings, their seven-membered-ring sibling, tropolone (2-hydroxy-2,4,6-cycloheptatrien-1-one), remains a challenging target for synthetic derivatization. This challenge primarily emanates from the unique structural and chemical properties of tropolonoid compounds, which often lead to unexpected and undesired reaction outcomes under conditions developed for the functionalizations of other aromatic moieties. Herein, we describe the total synthesis of one of the most complex natural tropolonoids, gukulenin B. Our synthetic route features a series of site-selective aromatic C-H bond functionalizations and C-C bond formations, whose reaction conditions are judiciously tuned to allow uncompromised performance on the tropolone nucleus. The flexibility and modularity of our synthesis are expected to facilitate further synthetic and biological studies of the gukulenin family of cytotoxins. In addition, the methods and tactics developed herein for the functionalization of the tropolone moiety could inspire and enable chemists of multiple disciplines to take advantage of this privileged yet underexplored structural motif.

Abstract
Herein, we describe the formation of tropolones through the autoxidation of Büchner reaction-derived cycloheptatrienes. The reaction is exceptionally simple procedurally, as it involves blowing a stream of compressed air over the cycloheptatriene, and the products can be obtained without any need for chromatography. The chemistry works specifically on dioxolane-fused systems or close variants, and substitution patterns are also important. A radical-based mechanistic hypothesis is put forward to explain these results. Finally, we demonstrate the utility of the overall process in the synthesis of amide-appended tropolones and an isomer of stipitatic acid.

Abstract
We report the convergent total synthesis of (±)-hamigeran M, enabled by five C-H functionalization reactions and proceeding in 11 steps in 3.9% overall yield. The C-H functionalizations include a hydroxy-directed C-H borylation, one C-H metalation-1,2-addition, one C-H metalation-Negishi coupling, a late-stage oxazole-directed C-H borylation-oxidation, and one electrophilic bromination. Two of these five C-H functionalizations forged strategic C-C bonds in the seven-membered ring of hamigeran M. The oxazole-directed C-H borylation-oxidation was unprecedented and ensured a late-stage hydroxylation. Other key steps include a tandem Suzuki reaction-lactonization to join the cyclopentane building block with the aromatic moiety and a hydrogen-atom transfer reaction to reduce a challenging tetrasubstituted double bond.

Abstract
A domino silver(I)-promoted electrocyclic 2π-disrotatory electrocyclic ring-opening/intramolecular nucleophilic trapping of [ n.1.0]-dibromocyclopropanes by tethered carboxylic acids results in cyclization to butyrolactones fused to six- and seven-membered carbocycles. In the case of bicyclic [4.3.0] lactones the cis-fused stereoisomer was formed, whereas for the bicyclic [5.3.0] lactones the trans-fused stereoisomer was formed. Optimal conditions for the reaction used silver(I) trifluoroacetate (2.0 equiv) in trifluoroethanol or with added pyridine (2.0 equiv) and NaPF6 (5.0 equiv). The dibromocyclopropane precursors were made through cyclopropanation with in situ-generated dibromocarbene. The trans-fused lactones are potentially useful building blocks for pseudoguaianolide, guaianolide, and xanthanolide total synthesis. A computational study on the conformational preferences of these systems indicates that the trans-fused bicyclic [5.3.0] butyrolactones are lower in energy than the corresponding cis-fused lactones at the B3LYP/cc-pVTZ level of theory.

Abstract
Described is the development of a highly efficient 2π disrotatory ring-opening aromatization sequence using bicyclo[3.1.0]hexan-2-ones. This unprecedented transformation efficiently proceeds under thermal conditions and allows facile construction of uniquely substituted and polyfunctionalized benzoates. In the presence of either amines or alcohols formation of substituted anilines or ethers, respectively, is achieved. Additionally, the utility of this method was demonstrated in a short synthesis of sekikaic acid methyl ester.
