Abstract
The application of earth-abundant and low-toxicity iron catalysts as replacements for palladium in carbonylative coupling reactions remains challenging and largely unexplored. Reported here is a highly efficient iron-catalyzed carbonylation of aryl iodides with alkenyl boronic acids under ligand-free conditions, enabling the synthesis of α,β-unsaturated ketones even at atmospheric CO pressure. The broad applicability, including its effectiveness with α-branched enones and biologically active molecules, along with high yields and selectivity, underlines the general applicability of this catalytic system.

Abstract
An unprecedented method for the regioselective synthesis of 1,3-diaryl 4-alkyl pyrazoles has been reported. A wide variety of 1,3-diaryl 4-alkyl pyrazoles were synthesized as a single regioisomer via a ring-opening cyclization reaction of unsaturated pyrrolinium ions in the presence of arylhydrazines. This method avoids using additional alkylation steps and hazardous oxidants that generally are essential for the synthesis of 4-alkyl N-arylpyrazoles.

Abstract
This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of condensation-based methods for the C-H bond functionalization of amines that feature azomethine ylides as key intermediates. These transformations are typically redox-neutral and share common attributes with classic name reactions such as the Strecker, Mannich, Friedel-Crafts, Pictet-Spengler, and Kabachnik-Fields reaction, while incorporating a redox-isomerization step. This approach provides an ideal platform to rapidly transform simple starting materials into complex amines.

Abstract
AbstractReactions that take place via C–H functionalization are valuable tools in organic synthesis because they can be used for the synthesis of target compounds and for the late-stage functionalization of bioactive compounds. Among these, non-directed C(sp3)–H functionalization reactions of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycles have been developed in recent years. However, most of these lead to functionalization at the α-position relative to the heteroatom, and reactions at the β- or γ-positions are limited since these bonds are stronger and less electron-rich. Hence, in this review, we will discuss non-directed β- or γ-C(sp3)–H functionalization reactions of saturated nitrogen-containing heterocycles, which are of recent interest to medicinal chemists. These methods are attractive in order to avoid the pre-functionalization of substrates, and to reduce the number of synthetic steps and the formation of byproducts. Such non-directed β- and γ-C(sp3)–H functionalization reactions can be divided into enamine-intermediate-mediated processes and other reaction types described in this review. 1 Introduction2 Non-Directed β-C(sp3)–H Functionalization of Saturated Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles via an Enamine Intermediate2.1 Non-Directed β-C(sp3)–H Functionalization of Saturated Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles under Acidic, Basic or Thermal Conditions2.2 Non-Directed β-C(sp3)–H Functionalization of Saturated Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles under Oxidative Conditions2.3 Non-Directed β-C(sp3)–H Functionalization of Saturated Nitrogen-Containing Heterocycles under Redox-Neutral Conditions3 Strategies for Non-Directed β- or γ-C(sp3)–H Functionalization of Saturated Heterocycles Excluding Examples Proceeding via an Enamine Intermediate 4 Summary

Abstract
A highly efficient and practical Pd(II)/Cu(OAc)2-catalyst system of Saegusa oxidation, which converts enol ethers to the corresponding enals with a number of diverse substrates at extremely low catalyst loadings (500 mol ppm) under ligand-free and aqueous conditions, is described. Its synthetic utility was demonstrated by large-scale applications of the catalyst system to important nature molecules. This work allows Saegusa oxidation to become a highly practical approach to preparing enals and also suggests new insight into the Pd(II)/Cu(II)-catalyst system for dehydrogenation of carbonyl compounds and decreasing Pd-catalyst loadings.

Abstract
With the increasing awareness of sustainable chemistry principles, the development of an efficient and mild strategy for C(sp3)-H bond activation of nitrogen-containing compounds without the utilization of any oxidant and metal is still highly desired and challenging. Herein, we present a metal-free reaction system that enables C-H bond functionalization of aliphatic sulfonamides using DABCO as a promoter under mild conditions, affording a series of α,β-unsaturated imines in good yields with high selectivities. This protocol tolerates a broad range of functionalities and can serve as a powerful synthetic tool for the late-stage modification of complex compounds. More importantly, control experiments and detailed DFT calculations suggest that this process involves [2 + 2] cyclization/ring-cleavage reorganization, which opens up a new platform for the establishment of other related reorganization reactions.

Abstract
Traditionally, amines react with nitrosoarenes to provide the corresponding imines or azo compounds. Herein, we report an acid mediated annulation reaction of aliphatic amines and nitrosoarenes to provide indole derivatives. The elusive direct annulation of aliphatic amines and nitrosoarenes via simultaneous C-C and C-N bond formation was achieved under metal free conditions. This conceptually novel method for indole synthesis does not require pre-functionalization steps for the new C-C and C-N bond formation. The method has been applied for an elegant synthesis of nor-neocryptolepine and neocryptolepine.

Abstract
An unprecedented direct C-C coupling reaction of unprotected primary amines with active methylene compounds is reported. The reaction involves a biomimetic deamination of amines which was achieved under conditions free of metallic reagents and strong oxidizing agents. A wide range of primary amines was reacted with different active methylene compounds to provide structurally diverse trisubstituted alkenes and dihydropyridines. A kinetic study revealed an activation barrier of 10.1 kcal mol-1 for the conversion of a key intermediate of the reaction.

Abstract
The acetic acid catalyzed three-component reaction of pyrrolidine, aromatic aldehydes, and 3-arylideneoxindolin-2-ones in refluxing toluene afforded functionalized 7'-arylidenespiro[indoline-3,1'-pyrrolizines] in good yields and with high diastereoselectivity. The similar three-component reaction with 2-arylidene-1,3-indanediones also gave 7'-arylidenespiro[indene-2,1'-pyrrolizines] in good yields. However, the reaction with 3-phenacylideneoxindoles resulted in a mixture of spiro[indoline-3,1'-pyrrolizines] and 7'-arylidene-substituted spirooxindoles in moderate yields. The reaction mechanism included generation of azomethine ylides, β-C-H functionalization of pyrrolidine, and sequential [3 + 2] cycloaddition. The obtained spirooxindole derivatives were investigated by in vitro evaluation against mouse colon cancer cells CT26 and human liver cancer cells HepG2 by MTT assay.

Abstract
Hydrogen bond assisted ortho-selective C(sp2)-H amination of nitrosoarenes and subsequent α-C(sp3)-H functionalization of aliphatic amines is achieved under metal-free conditions. The annulation of nitrosoarenes and 2-hydroxy-C-nitroso compounds with N-heterocycles provides a facile excess to a wide range of biologically relevant ring-fused benzimidazoles and structurally novel polycyclic imidazoles, respectively. Nucleophilic aromatic hydrogen substitution (SNArH) was found to be preferred over classical SNAr reaction during the C(sp2)-H amination of halogenated nitrosoarenes.

Abstract
Cyclic amines such as pyrrolidine and piperidine are known to undergo condensations with aldehydes to furnish pyrrole and pyridine derivatives, respectively. A combined experimental and computational study provides detailed insights into the mechanism of pyrrole formation. A number of reactive intermediates (e.g., azomethine ylides, conjugated azomethine ylides, enamines) were intercepted, outlining strategies for circumventing aromatization as a valuable pathway for amine C-H functionalization.

Abstract
![]()
Benzo[a]quinolizine-2-one derivatives are readily
assembled from 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline and β-ketoaldehydes
by means of a new intramolecular redox-Mannich process. These reactions
are promoted by simple acetic acid and are thought to involve azomethine
ylides as reactive intermediates.
