Abstract
A new strategy for facile access to multifunctionalized furans via N-heterocyclic carbene-catalyzed cross-coupling/cyclization of ynenones with aldehydes has been explored. This protocol features readily obtainable starting materials, mild and metal-free conditions, broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, excellent yields, and easy scale-up. Synthetic utility of the protocol has been further corroborated through functionalization of complex substrates and postmodifications of the product.

Abstract
Albeit notable endeavors in enantioselective carbene insertion into X-H bonds (X = C, O, N, S, Si, B), the catalytic asymmetric P-H insertion reactions still stand for a long-lasting challenge. By merging transition-metal catalysis with organocatalysis, we achieve a scalable enantioselective P-H insertion transformation between diazo pyrazoleamides and H-phosphine oxides that upon subsequent reduction delivers a wide variety of optically active β-hydroxyl phosphine oxides in good yields with high enantioselectivity. The achiral copper catalyst fosters the carbenoid insertion into the P-H bond, while the chiral cinchona alkaloid-derived organocatalyst controls the subsequent enantioselective outcome. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further reveal that the copper catalyst chelates to the organocatalyst, enhances its acidity, and accordingly promotes the enantioselective proton transfer. Our work showcases the potential of combining transition-metal catalysis with organocatalysis to realize elusive asymmetric reactions.

Abstract
A competent method for the construction of highly substituted furans catalyzed by Pd(II) and Cu(II) chloride has been developed. The method provides easy access to di-, tri-, and tetrasubstituted furans from corresponding diols with relatively mild conditions in a unified strategy. The developed method has been successfully tested with more than 25 substrates, which resulted in furans of multiple substitution patterns with up to 84% isolated yields.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalysed carbene insertion reaction is a straightforward and efficient protocol for the construction of carbon–carbon or carbon–heteroatom bonds. Compared to the intensively studied and well-established “common” carbene insertion reactions, including carbene insertion into C–H, Si–H, N–H, O–H, and S–H bonds, several “uncommon” carbene insertion reactions, including carbene insertion into B–H, Sn–H, Ge–H, P–H, F–H, C–C, and M–M bonds, have been neglected for a long time. However, more and more studies on uncommon carbene insertion reactions have been disclosed recently, and clearly demonstrate the great synthetic potential of these reactions. The current perspective reviews the history and the newest advances of uncommon carbene insertion reactions, discusses their potential applications and challenges, and also presents an outlook of this promising field. Transition-metal-catalysed carbene insertion reaction is a straightforward and efficient protocol for the construction of carbon–carbon or carbon–heteroatom bonds.![]()

Abstract
Enynones are powerful synthons for constructing furan derivatives in the presence of transition metal catalysts. Unlike the conventional intramolecular nucleophilic attack with the activation of coinage metals, we propose that enynones undergo an oxidative cyclization process with a Pd(0) species. The full catalytic cycle involves oxidative cyclization, isocyanide insertion, and reductive elimination, which was supported by DFT calculations. Geometric and electronic analyses confirmed the oxidative cyclization process, which proceeds via a Pd(ii) intermediate.

Abstract
A highly regioselective divergent approach for the phosphine-containing indane/indene derivatives from the ene-yne-oxazolone precursors was reported. An insight into the reaction mechanism involving the phospha-1,4-addition followed by 5-exo-dig ring closure with a concomitant C-P/C-C bond formation was also proposed. This promising protocol utilized H-phosphonate as the phosphonating reagent in a silver-catalyzed or base-mediated cascade cyclization to construct the corresponding phosphorylated spiroindenoxazolones and amidoindenes, respectively, in good yields (up to 88% yield).

Palladium-catalyzed cascade reactions of enynones and isocyanides have been disclosed. This strategy allows for the synthesis of structurally unusual furan-incorporated ketenimines, which are stable and can undergo a formal [4+1] annulation with another isocyanide to yield indenone derivatives.

Abstract
Donor and donor-donor carbenes are two important kinds of carbenes, which have experienced tremendous growth in the past two decades. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the recent development of donor and donor-donor carbene chemistry. The development of this chemistry offers efficient protocols to construct a wide variety of C-C and C-X bonds in organic synthesis. This review is organized based on the different types of carbene precursors, including diazo compounds, hydrazones, enynones, cycloheptatrienes and cyclopropenes. The typical transformations, the reaction mechanisms, as well as their subsequent applications in the synthesis of complex natural products and bioactive molecules are discussed. Due to the rapidly increasing interest in this area, we believe that this review will provide a timely and comprehensive discussion of recent progress in donor and donor-donor carbene chemistry.

Abstract
A convenient and applicable approach to the construction of diverse functionalized (2-furyl)methylthioether derivatives via base-promoted S-H insertion of conjugated enynones with thiophenols or thiols has been developed. This reaction features readily available starting materials, high atom economy, broad substrate scope, and versatile operation. Moreover, the synthetic utility of this method has been demonstrated by the efficient synthesis of the CNKSPR1 inhibitor precursor and late-stage functionalization of glutathione.

Abstract
An efficient and practical procedure for one-pot assembly of furylated 2-alkenylphenols has been achieved via the Cp*CyRh-catalyzed regioselective redox-neutral C-H activation/5-exo-dig cyclization cascade using N-phenoxyacetamides and enynones as the viable substrates. The synthetic application of such a protocol has also been demonstrated to highlight the versatility of this transformation.

Abstract
A facile route to 3-sulfonylated and 3-(1-benzotriazolyl)-benzofurans is achieved from readily available o-hydroxyphenyl propargyl alcohols (o-HPPAs) and bench-top sodium sulfonylates and benzotriazoles with no assistance of any reagent or catalyst. Bifunctional o-quinone methides (o-QMs) were the putative reaction intermediates ensued from dehydration of o-HPPA. Our study revealed that the o-QM was so choosy in selection of the nucleophiles for the key Michael addition reaction.

Abstract
An unprecedented palladium-catalyzed novel carbene/alkyne metathesis cascade reaction of alkyne-tethered enynones is described. This reaction affords fused polyheterocycles in moderate to good yields. The transformation begins with Pd-catalyzed 5-exo-dig cyclization of the enynone to form the donor/donor metal carbene, which then undergoes metathesis with the alkyne followed by electrophilic aromatic substitution.
