Abstract
An enantioselective cobalt-catalyzed C(sp3 )-H alkenylation of thioamides with but-2-ynoate ester coupling partners employing thioamide directing groups is presented. The method is operationally simple and requires only mild reaction conditions, while providing alkenylated products as single regioisomers in excellent yields (up to 85 %) and high enantiomeric excess [up to 91 : 9 enantiomeric ratio (er), or up to >99 : 1 er after a single recrystallization]. Diverse downstream derivatizations of the products are demonstrated, delivering a range of enantioenriched constructs. Extensive computational studies using density functional theory provide insight into the detailed reaction mechanism, origin of enantiocontrol, and the unusual regioselectivity of the alkenylation reaction.

Abstract
A metal-free three-component approach has been developed to prepare 2,4-disubstituted quinazolines from o-acylanilines, trialkylamines and ammonium chloride under visible-light using eosin Y as the photocatalyst. The notable features of this work include (i) the use of tertiary amines as an alkyl synthon and triethanolamine as a C2-OH synthon; (ii) good functional group tolerance with 52%-98% yields; (iii) proof of concept with o-amino benzaldehyde as a substrate to deliver 2-methyl quinazoline 3pa; and (iv) gram-scale synthesis of compounds 3ga, 3ja and 3ma. A reductive quenching mechanism was proposed based on the control studies and redox potential values.

Abstract
We present a convenient and efficient protocol to synthesize quinolines and quinazolines in one pot under mild conditions. A variety of substituted quinolines were synthesized in good to excellent yields (up to 97% yield) from the dehydrogenative cyclizations of 2-aminoaryl alcohols and ketones catalyzed by readily available Co(OAc)2·4H2O. This cobalt catalytic system also showed high activity in the reactions of 2-aminobenzyl alcohols with nitriles, affording various quinazoline derivatives (up to 95% yield). The present protocol offers an environmentally benign approach for the synthesis of N-heterocycles by employing an earth-abundant cobalt salt under ligand-free conditions.

Abstract
A mechanism study for Pd(II)-catalyzed C(sp3)-H activation using a self-cleaving chlorotetrafluoroethylsulfinyl (-SOCF2CF2Cl) auxiliary as a directing group is reported. Mechanistic studies reveal that (1) the auxiliary group is crucial for C(sp3)-H activation, (2) the reaction undergoes a C(sp3)-H olefination-Michael addition-removal of the auxiliary sequence, (3) the removal of the auxiliary (SORf) is most likely the alcoholic solvolysis of the -SOCF2CF2Cl group on the N-tri-substituted sulfonamides, and (4) the C(sp3)-H cleavage is involved in the rate-determining step.

Abstract
Over the last decade, high-valent cobalt catalysis has earned a place in the spotlight as a valuable tool for C-H activation and functionalization. Since the discovery of its unique reactivity, more and more attention has been directed towards the utilization of cobalt as an alternative to noble metal catalysts. In particular, Cp*Co(III) complexes, as well as simple Co(II) and Co(III) salts in combination with bidentate chelation assistance, have been extensively used for the development of novel transformations. In this review, we have demonstrated the existing trends in the C-H functionalization methodology using high-valent cobalt catalysis and highlighted the main challenges to overcome, as well as perspective directions, which need to be further developed in the future.

Abstract
A highly regioselective synthesis of 1-aminoisoquinolines has been explored via rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H bond activation/annulation reactions of propargyl alcohols with N-arylbenzamidines. The imidamide was used as the directing group and the nitrogen source of the heterocycle and for regulating the regioselective migratory insertion of propargyl alcohol through a hydrogen bond. In this transformation, a specific isomer was obtained that would provide a new strategy for the synthesis of 1-aminoisoquinolines with biological activity.

Abstract
A new method for the direct and stereoselective synthesis of 3-substituted isoindolinones via Rh(iii)-catalyzed chiral N-sulfinyl amide directed asymmetric [4 + 1] annulation of benzamides with acrylic esters has been developed. The reaction proceeded through an oxidative C-H olefination and a subsequent cyclization by intramolecular aza-Michael addition, producing a series of diastereoisomeric chiral isoindolinones (20 examples) in generally good yields with a dr value up to 5.5 : 1. The absolute configurations of the newly formed C-stereocenters in the major and minor diastereomers of the catalysis product have been determined by X-ray crystal diffraction analysis to be S and R, respectively. The separation of the major diastereoisomers from the catalysis products and subsequent removal of the N-sulfinyl chiral auxiliary afforded enantiomerically pure (S)-isoindolinones. The application of the obtained (S)-isoindolinones in the synthesis of several biologically active isoindolinones such as (S)-PD172938, (S)-pazinaclone and (S)-pagoclone is presented.

Abstract
A 2,5-bis(4-phenylquinazolin-2-yl)thiophene (BQT) probe is designed, synthesized and explored for selective ratiometric fluorescence and visual detection of Fe3+ and as a turn-off fluorescence probe for I- anion. BQT is colorless and has blue emission in CH3CN solution. BQT selectively complexes with Fe3+, turns its solution from colorless to greenish yellow and enables the ratiometric sensing of Fe3+ with limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) of 2 × 10-8 M and 6.1 × 10-8 M, respectively. Binding constant of BQT with Fe3+ is found to be 4.1 × 10-4 M-1. BQT is also able to sense I- anion present in aqueous solution by selectively turning colorless to yellow and fluorescence quenching with a LOD of 1.7 × 10-7 M and LOQ of 5.2 × 10-7 M. BQT sensing ability is not influenced by the presence of other metal ions and anions in the vicinity. The BQT-Fe3+ complex is thoroughly characterized using MALDI-TOF, NMR and Job's plot. A reversibility experiment with EDTA suggests BQT is a reversible fluorescent chemosensor for Fe3+ ions. The spectroscopic data of BQT and its complexes are employed to construct a field test kit for qualitative analysis and INHIBIT logic gate.

Abstract
In this work, a green, sustainable, and efficient protocol for the syntheses of dihydroquinazoline derivatives is proposed. Initially, three Schiff base complexes of iron containing the ligand (2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diyl)bis(azanylylidene)bis(methanylylidene)bis(2,4-Xphenol), where X = Cl (complex 1)/Br (complex 2)/I (complex 3), were synthesized, fully characterized, and used in the desired syntheses. Complex 1 excelled as a catalyst, closely followed by complexes 2 and 3. DFT calculations helped in rationalizing the role of the halide substituent in the ligand backbone as a relevant factor in the catalytic superiority of complex 1 over complexes 2 and 3 for the synthesis of the dihydroquinazoline derivatives. Finally, to facilitate catalyst recoverability and reusability, complex 1 was immobilized on GO@Fe3O4@APTES (GO, graphene oxide; APTES, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) to generate GO@Fe3O4@APTES@FeL1 (GOTESFe). GOTESFe was thoroughly characterized through scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and efficiently used for the synthesis of dihydroquinazoline derivatives. GOTESFe could be magnetically recovered and reused up to five cycles without compromising its catalytic efficiency. Therefore, immobilization of the chosen iron complex onto magnetic GO sheets offers an extremely competent route in providing a blueprint of a readily recoverable, reusable, robust, and potent catalyst for the synthesis of dihydroquinazoline-based compounds.

Abstract
A Rh(III)-catalyzed annulative coupling of 3,5-diarylisothiazoles and alkynes is reported. The N-S bond in the isothiazole ring acts as an internal oxidant to regenerate the Rh(III) species in combination with an external Cu(II) oxidant, and the corresponding 1:2 coupling products are obtained. The remarkable difference in the reaction outcome between isothiazoles and the relevant isoxazoles has been investigated by DFT calculations, revealing that the relative stability of the enolate intermediates dictates the product selectivity.

Abstract
Synthesis of 2-aryl-4-iodoquinazolines is developed using titanium tetraiodide/trimethylsilyl iodide synergistically induced cyclization of N-(2-cyanophenyl)benzamides. The cyclization reactions proceeded to give the 2-aryl-4-iodoquinazolines in moderate to high yields. Remarkable synergetic effect of titanium tetraiodide and trimethylsilyl iodide was observed to promote the cyclization. The method was applied to the formal synthesis of a potent analgesic agent.

Abstract
In recent years, transition-metal-catalyzed C-H activation has become a key strategy in the field of organic synthesis. Rhodium complexes are widely used as catalysts in a variety of C-H functionalization reactions because of their high reactivity and selectivity. The availability of a number of rhodium complexes in various oxidation states enables diverse reaction patterns to be obtained. Regioselectivity, an important issue in C-H activation chemistry, can be accomplished by using a directing group to assist the reaction. However, to obtain the target functionalized compounds, it is also necessary to use a directing group that can be easily removed. A wide range of directed C-H functionalization reactions catalyzed by rhodium complexes have been reported to date. In this Review, we discuss Rh-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions that are aided by the use of a removable directing group such as phenol, amine, aldehyde, ketones, ester, acid, sulfonic acid, and N-heteroaromatic derivatives.
