Abstract
Most of the known rearrangement reactions of donor-acceptor cyclopropanes (DACs) involve the migration of cationic carbon atom to anionic carbon or heteroatoms in 1,3- or 1,4-positions. In the present work, we observed that spiro DACs based on 1,3-indanedione or 1-indanone moiety undergo intramolecular 1,2-aroyl migration when treated with titanium(IV) chloride to afford 1,4-naphthoquinones and α-naphthols readily. The reactions take place through the formation of putative 1,3-dipolar intermediates, followed by cleavage and migration of the aroyl group to the adjacent carbon to afford the ring-expansion products.

Abstract
A novel method for the preparation of tetrahydropentaleno[1,2-c]pyrroles (8) is described via the reaction of anilines with 1-en-4-yn-3-ols in the presence of Lewis acid. Oxidation of 8 with Br2 gave pentaleno[1,2-c]pyrroles (10), which is the first reported tricyclic 5/5/5 ring with a fully conjugated system. Structures of these obtained compounds were characterized by spectroscopic methods, and compounds 8a,b and 10c were further confirmed by X-ray crystallographic determination.

Abstract
The convergent total syntheses of three 14-membered macrolide natural products, mutolide, nigrosporolide and (4S,7S,13S)-4,7-dihydroxy-13-tetradeca-2,5,8-trienolide have been achieved. The key synthetic features include Shiina macrolactonization to assemble the 14-membered macrocyclic core, Wittig or Still-Gennari olefination and selective reduction of propargylic alcohol to construct the E- or Z-olefins. Cross metathesis was also highlighted as an efficient tool to forge the formation of E-olefin. The three synthetic macrolides were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against three human cancer cell lines as well as for inhibitory effect on CFTR-mediated chloride secretion in human intestinal epithelial (T84) cells. Mutolide displayed significant cytotoxic activity against HCT116 colon cancer cells with an IC50 of ∼12 μM as well as a potent CTFR inhibitory effect with an IC50 value of ∼1 μM.

Abstract
It is very important to develop multiple C–H substitution reactions of simple alkenes to obtain complex unsaturated components. The present study focuses on a theoretical investigation of the plausible mechanism in the Fe(OTf)3-catalyzed tandem amidomethylative reactions of α-phenylstyrene. Bis(tosylamido)methane is activated by Fe(OTf)3 to form tosylformaldimine and its Fe(OTf)3-adduct. The Fe(OTf)3-adduct undergoes an intermolecular aza-Prins reaction with α-phenylstyrene to form allylamide. The DFT data support the formation of the hexahydropyrimidine derivative from allylamide, and “condensation/iminium homologation/intramolecular aza-Prins” is the optimal reaction path. At the same time, a possible reaction pathway for the conversion of the hydrolysate 1,3-diamide derivative to the hexahydropyrimidine (HHP) derivative is given. This work is thus instructive for understanding Fe(iii)-based tandem catalysis for the amidomethylative multiple-substitution reactions of alkenes. It is very important to develop multiple C–H substitution reactions of simple alkenes to obtain complex unsaturated components.![]()

Abstract
The importance of intramolecular constraints in cyclic transition-state geometries is especially pronounced in n-endo-tet cyclizations, where the usual backside approach of a nucleophile to the breaking bond is impossible for the rings containing less than eight atoms. Herein, we expand the limits of endo-tet cyclizations and show that donor-acceptor cyclopropanes can provide a seven-membered ring via a genuine 6-endo-tet process. Substrates containing a N-alkyl-N-arylcarbamoyl moiety as an acceptor group undergo Lewis acid-induced cyclization to form tetrahydrobenz[b]azepin-2-ones in high yields. The reaction proceeds with the inversion of the configuration at the electrophilic carbon. In this process, a formally six-membered transition state yields a seven-membered ring as the pre-existing cycle is merged into the forming ring. The stereochemistry of the products can be controlled by the reaction time and by the nature of Lewis acid, opening access to both diastereomers by tuning of the reaction conditions.

Abstract
Fukuyama reaction for the synthesis of multifunctional aldehydes, secondary amines and ketones has gained considerable importance in synthetic organic chemistry because of mild reaction conditions. The use of thioesters in both Fukuyama aldehydes and ketones synthesis is highly attractive for organic chemists as they are easily accessible from corresponding carboxylic acids. Fukuyama-Mitsunobu reaction utilizes 2-nitrobenzenesulfonyl (Ns) for the protection/activation/deprotection of primary amines to afford secondary amines in good yields and high enantioselectivities. This review presents recent synthetic developments and applications of Fukuyama reaction for the synthesis of aldehydes, secondary amines and ketones.

Abstract
The efficient total synthesis of lycojaponicumin A (1) has been accomplished for the first time. The remarkable features of this novel strategy include the following: (1) rapid construction of tricyclic intermediate 4 through a regio- and stereoselective semipinacol ring expansion, which simplified the construction of rings A and B of 1; (2) the subsequent regio- and stereoselective formation of the highly strained rings C-E of 1 through a tandem oxa-hetero [3 + 2] cycloaddition/N-cycloalkylation.

The DFT Quest for Possible Reaction Pathways, Catalytic Species, and Regioselectivity in the InCl 3-Catalyzed Cycloaddition of N-Tosyl Formaldimine with Olefins or Allenes. Abstract
The present work focuses on a theoretical investigation of the plausible mechanism, determination of catalytically active species, and understanding of the regioselectivity in the InCl3-catalyzed cycloaddition of N-tosyl formaldimine with alkenes or allenes. InCl3 and InCl2+ coordinated by dichloroethane (InCl2+-DCE) were investigated as model catalytic systems. DFT data supported that InCl2+-DCE represent the plausible in situ generated catalytic species. The catalytic cycle starts from the coordination of N-tosyl formaldimine to InCl2+-DCE, generating an In-complexed iminium intermediate. This then undergoes intermolecular reaction (aza-Prins) with alkene substrate to form a carbocation intermediate, which is chemoselectively attacked by the second N-tosyl formaldimine molecule to form a formaldiminium intermediate. In a final step, this intermediate undergoes the ring closure, leading to hexahydropyrimidine along with the regeneration of catalyst. In addition, our DFT results indicate that N-tosyl formaldimine not only acts as a reactant but also accelerates the 1,3-H-shift as a proton acceptor, giving an experimentally observed allylamide product. Also, the "iminium/alkene/imine" path was supported by calculation results for diastereoselective [2 + 2 + 2] reaction using an internal alkene. Finally, the regioselectivity of the InCl3-catalyzed cycloaddition using allenes along with N-tosyl formaldimine was also analyzed.

Abstract
Catalytic [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition with three double bond systems has been developed for construction of hexahydropyrimidine and 1,3-diamine derivatives.
Catalytic [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition with imines has, for the first time, been developed as a practical and selective approach for direct construction of hexahydropyrimidine derivatives from various alkenes. With formaldimines as reagents and simple InCl3 as the catalyst, this ionic [2 + 2 + 2] approach is applicable for a wide scope of alkenes and allenes with various electronic and steric properties, as well as substitution patterns. Through facile hydrolysis of the resulting hexahydropyrimidines, this catalytic process also provides a new synthetic strategy for the aminomethylamination of alkenes and allenes to practically access 1,3-diamine derivatives.

Abstract
The formal total synthesis of (±)-lycojaponicumin C has been accomplished. Key transformations include a Rh-catalyzed formal [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction to construct the bicyclic [3.3.0] scaffold bearing two vicinal quaternary carbon centers, a stereoselective γ-hydroxyl directed Michael addition to introduce the vinyl group at a bulky position, and a late-stage ring-closing metathesis reaction to form the cyclohexanone ring.

Abstract
First-row transition-metal-mediated reactions constitute an important and growing area of research due to the low cost, low toxicity, and exceptional synthetic versatility of these metals. Currently, there is considerable effort to replace existing precious-metal-catalyzed reactions with first-row analogs. More importantly, there are a plethora of unique transformations mediated by first-row metals, which have no classical second- or third-row counterpart. Herein, the application of first-row metal-mediated methods to the total synthesis of natural products is discussed. This Review is intended to highlight strategic uses of these metals to realize efficient syntheses and highlight the future potential of these reagents and catalysts in organic synthesis.
