Abstract
![]()
We describe a new
synthetic reaction that generates all-carbon
bis-quaternary centers at the opposing side of α-carbons in
cyclohexanone with four different substituents in a controlled manner.
Catalyzed by Cu(MeCN)4BF4 salt, this chemistry
is proposed to proceed via an intermediacy of unsymmetrical O-allyl oxyallyl cations, which undergo a sequence of regioselective
nucleophilic addition with substituted indoles and diastereoselective
Claisen rearrangement in a single synthetic operation. The stereochemical
outcome of the products features the cis diastereorelationship
between the two aryl groups at the α,α′-positions.

Abstract
Toward a method for direct conversion of alkenes to cyclic guanidines, we report that 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions of 2-amido-1,3-diamino allylic cations with alkenes provide a new method for direct cyclic guanidine annulation. Generated under oxidative conditions, the 2-amido-1,3-diaminoallyl cations react as 1,3-dipoles providing rapid access to 2-amino imidazolines through net (3 + 2) cycloadditions. The utility is demonstrated through a concise synthesis of the oroidin alkaloid, phakellin. The described 1,3-dipole also participates in net (4 + 3) cycloadditions with dienes.

Abstract
An umpolung strategy to synthesize α,α'-substituted cyclic ketones through the nucleophilic addition of organoboronates to α-hydroxyl silyl enol ethers is described. The reaction proceeds via the trapping of in situ generated oxyallyl cations via the electrophilic deborylation of C(sp2) and C(sp) borates. This efficient and straightforward method provides direct access to α-substituted silyl enol ethers in high yield with complete regioselectivity. Desilylation in a one-pot procedure provides the corresponding α,α'-disubstituted ketones with high diastereoselectivity.

Abstract
Our investigations on the reaction mechanism to account for regioselectivity on the addition of indoles to unsymmetrical silyloxyallyl cations are reported. Using both experimental and computational methods, we confirmed the significance of steric effects from the silyl ether group toward directing the inward approach of indoles, leading to nucleophilic attack at the less substituted electrophilic α'-carbon. The role of residual water toward accelerating the rate of reaction is established through stabilization of the participating silyloxyallyl cation.

Abstract
The regioselective and enantioselective synthesis of β-indolyl cyclopentenamides, a versatile chiral building block, by asymmetric addition of indoles to α,β-unsaturated iminium intermediates has been achieved through chiral anion catalysis. Key to the success of this methodology is the generation of a chiral anion-paired ketone-type α,β-unsaturated iminium intermediate from α-hydroxy enamides. Preliminary mechanistic studies and DFT calculations are consistent with a mechanism involving multiple, concurrent pathways for isomerization of the initially formed azaallylcation into the key α,β-unsaturated iminium intermediate, all mediated by the phosphoric acid catalyst.

Abstract
Herein, we report an improved protocol for the concise synthesis of functionalized 1,4- and 1,6-dicarbonyl-derived monosilyl enol ethers via ionization of α'-hydroxy silyl enol ethers to generate unsymmetrical silyloxyallyl cations that were subsequently captured by TBS silyl enolates. These transformations were efficiently performed in acetonitrile at room temperature by employing pyridinium triflate as a catalyst. Our new reaction conditions are operationally more practical and broaden the accessibility of various 1,4- and 1,6-dicarbonyl groups, which include diketone, ketoester, and ketothioester functionalities.
