Abstract
A highly regio- and enantioselective hydrosulfonylation using commercially available sodium sulfinates is reported, providing the first direct asymmetric rhodium-catalyzed hydrosulfonylation of allenes/alkynes to synthesize chiral allylic sulfones. Ligand screening studies demonstrated the indispensable role of the C1-symmetric P,N-ligand (Rax,S,S)-StackPhim for achieving both high regioselecitivity (>20:1) and enantioselectivity (up to 97% ee). Notably, the operationally simple method and mild conditions allow for the rapid preparation of chiral allylic sulfones with a wide scope of functional groups. Moreover, the use of sodium tert-butyldimethylsilyloxymethanesulfinate enables the collective synthesis of various chiral sulfone derivatives after simple transformations of the protected hydroxymethyl product.

Abstract
Saturated heterocycles, which incorporate S and O heteroatoms, serve as fundamental frameworks in a diverse array of natural products, bioactive compounds, and pharmaceuticals. Herein, we describe a unique cobalt-catalyzed approach integrated with a desymmetrization strategy, facilitating precise and enantioselective remote hydroalkylation of unactivated heterocyclic alkenes. This method delivers hydroalkylation products with high yields and excellent stereoselectivity, representing good efficiency in constructing alkyl chiral centers at remote C3-positions within five-membered S/O-heterocycles. Notably, the broad scope and good functional group tolerance of this asymmetric C(sp3)-C(sp3) coupling enhance its applicability.

Abstract
Rh-(R,R)-f-spiroPhos complex-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation of α-substituted alkenyl sulfones has been achieved, affording the chiral γ-keto sulfones and simple α-alkyl-substituted sulfones in high yields (96-99%) with excellent chemo-/enantioselectivities (86-96% ee) and high turnover numbers (TONs) of up to 4000. The method provides an efficient and high-enantioselectivity strategy for chiral γ-keto sulfones and simple α-substituted sulfones under mild conditions. Moreover, the obtained hydrogenation product was transformed into other important chiral α-substituted sulfones.

Abstract
The organocatalytic asymmetric Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) reaction of isatin derivatives with various vinyl sulfones is disclosed. Chiral sulfone-containing 3-hydroxyoxindoles were produced in good to high yields and with good to high ee's. This report displays an unprecedented example to apply activated alkenes with sulfone moiety other than carbonyl groups in asymmetric MBH reactions and provides an efficient strategy to incorporate the sulfone functional group for the synthesis of chiral 3-hydroxyoxindoles.

Abstract
The electrochemical sulfonylation of enamides with sodium sulfinates was developed in an undivided cell in constant current mode, leading to the formation of β-amidovinyl sulfones in moderate to good yields. The catalyst-, electrolyte- and oxidant-free protocol features good functional group tolerance and employs electric current as a green oxidant. Mechanistic insights into the reaction indicate that the reaction may proceed via a radical mechanism.

Abstract
Chiral sulfones extensively exist in drugs, agricultural chemicals, chiral organic intermediates, and functional materials. Their importance causes the rapid development of their synthetic methods in recent years. Many transition metal complex catalysts with chiral ligands and chiral organocatalysts are adopted in synthesis of chiral sulfones. Most of the methods to construct chiral sulfones are based on the reduction of unsaturated sulfones and the introduction of sulfone groups into unsaturated hydrocarbons. This review describes all classes of asymmetric reactions for synthesis of chiral sulfones.

Abstract
The palladium-catalyzed [3 + 2] cycloaddition using in situ generated sulfone-TMM species to construct various chiral cyclopentyl sulfones in a highly regio-, diastereo- (dr >15:1), and enantioselective (up to 99% ee) manner is reported. The present strategy can tolerate different types of sulfone-TMM donors and acceptors, and enables the construction of three chiral centers in a single step, specifically with a chiral center bearing the sulfone moiety. The robust chiral diamidophosphite ligand is the key to the reactivity and selectivities of this transformation.

Abstract
Photocatalyst-free visible-light-mediated reactions, based on the presence of a visible-light-absorbing functional group in the starting material itself in order to exclude the often costly, hazardous, degradable and difficult to remove or recover photoredox catalysts, have been gaining momentum recently. We have employed this approach to develop a denitrative photocatalyst-free visible-light-mediated protocol for the arylation/sulfonylation of β-nitrostyrenes employing arylazo sulfones (bench-stable photolabile compounds) in a switchable solvent-controlled manner. Arylazo sulfones served as the aryl and sulfonyl radical precursors under blue LED irradiation for the synthesis of trans-stilbenes and (E)-vinyl sulfones in CH3CN and dioxane/H2O 2 : 1, respectively. The absence of any metal, photocatalyst and additive; excellent selectivity (E-stereochemistry) and solvent-switchability; and the use of visible light and ambient temperature are the prime assets of the developed method. Moreover, we report the first photocatalyst-free visible light-driven route to synthesize stilbenes and vinyl sulfones from readily available β-nitrostyrenes.

Abstract
A modular synthesis of Ru(II)-NHC-diamine complexes from readily available chiral N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and chiral diamines is disclosed for the first time. The well-defined Ru(II)-NHC-diamine complexes show unique structure and coordination chemistry including an unusual tridentate coordination effect of 1,2-diphenylethylenediamine. The isolated air- and moisture-stable Ru(II)-NHC-diamine complexes act as versatile precatalysts for the asymmetric hydrogenation of isocoumarines, benzothiophene 1,1-dioxides, and ketones. Moreover, on the basis of the identification of reaction intermediates by stoichiometric reactions and NMR experiments, together with the DFT calculations, a possible catalytic cycle was proposed.

Abstract
A highly regio- and enantioselective hydrogenation of challenging tetrasubstituted allenyl sulfones has been developed, affording chiral allylic sulfones in good yields with excellent regio- and enantioselectivities (up to 99 % yield and 99 % ee). This method provides an efficient and concise route to chiral allylic sulfones, thus offering an atom-economic process with a wide range of potential applications in organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry.

Abstract
A highly enantioselective hydrogenation of various sodium α-arylethenylsulfonates catalyzed by Rh/chiral ferrocenyl bisphosphorus ligand (Wudaphos) was successfully developed to construct a series of chiral α-arylethylsulfonic acids in the presence of CF3SO3H with full conversion and good to excellent enantioselectivity (>99% conversion, up to 96% ee) under mild reaction conditions for the first time. Moreover, the control experiment results showed that the non-covalent ion pair interaction between the α-arylethenylsulfonic acid and the Wudaphos ligand plays an important role in this asymmetric hydrogenation system.
