Abstract
Epoxyquinoids are of continuing interest due to their wide natural distribution and diverse biological activities, including, but not limited to, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, enzyme inhibitory, and others. The last review on their total synthesis was published in 2017. Since then, almost 100 articles have been published on their isolation from nature and their biological profile. In addition, the review specifically considers synthesis, including total and enantioselective, as well as the development of shorter approaches for the construction of epoxyquinoids with complex chemical architecture. Thus, this review focuses on progress in this area in order to stimulate further research.

Abstract
Asymmetric catalysis has emerged as a general and powerful approach for constructing chiral compounds in an enantioselective manner. Hence, developing novel chiral ligands and catalysts that can effectively induce asymmetry in reactions is crucial in modern chemical synthesis. Among such chiral ligands and catalysts, chiral dienes and their metal complexes have received increased attention, and a great progress has been made over the past two decades. This review provides comprehensive and critical information on the essential aspects of chiral diene ligands and their importance in asymmetric catalysis. The literature covered ranges from August 2003 (when the first effective chiral diene ligand for asymmetric catalysis was reported) to October 2021. This review is divided into two parts. In the first part, the chiral diene ligands are categorized according to their structures, and their preparation methods are summarized. In the second part, their applications in asymmetric transformations are presented according to the reaction types.

Abstract
The dibenzobicyclo[3.2.1]octadienone scaffold, which has been found in naphthocyclinones, engelharquinones, rubialatin A, etc., has been synthesized under mild transition metal-free conditions by aryne insertion reaction with 2-keto-1,3-indandiones. The application of this methodology has been demonstrated for the synthesis of the 6/6/5/6/6 scaffold of rubialatin A. 1H NMR experimental studies confirm that the reaction proceeds through the formation of benzocyclobutane followed by a 7-member carbocycle ring.

Abstract
A metal- and hypervalent iodine reagent-free electrochemical oxidative dearomatization-induced [5+2] cycloaddition/pinacol rearrangement cascade reaction was described. The electrosynthetic method showed strong tolerance for vinylphenols, ethynylphenols, and allenylphenols, which thus enabled the rapid assembly of diversely functionalized bicyclo[3.2.1]octanes in 41-95% yields and up to >20:1 dr. This protocol could be scaled up to gram amounts and should find wide application in complex natural product synthesis.

Abstract
The 2,6'-bijuglone natural product diospyrin and its unnatural 3,6'-isomer idospyrin have been synthesized in seven steps each from N,N-diethylsenecioamide in overall yields of 12% and 13%, respectively. The syntheses diverge from ramentaceone (7-methyljuglone) and include a key Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling. Diospyrin, idospyrin, and several synthetic precursors exhibit potent and selective cytotoxicity to the murine myeloma NS-1 cell line over neonatal foreskin cells.

Anodic oxidation triggered divergent 1,2- and 1,4-group transfer reactions of β-hydroxycarboxylic acids enabled by electrochemical regulation. Chem Sci 2020; 11:12021-12028. Abstract
We report a set of electrochemically regulated protocols for the divergent synthesis of ketones and β-keto esters from the same β-hydroxycarboxylic acid starting materials. Enabled by electrochemical control, the anodic oxidation of carboxylic acids proceeded in either a one-electron or a two-electron pathway, leading to a 1,4-aryl transfer or a semipinacol-type 1,2-group transfer product with excellent chemoselectivity. The 1,4-aryl transfer represents an unprecedented example of carbon-to-oxygen group transfer proceeding via a radical mechanism. In contrast to previously reported radical group transfer reactions, this 1,4-group transfer process features the migration of electron-rich aryl substituents. Furthermore, with these chemoselective electrochemical oxidation protocols, a range of ketones and β-keto esters including those possessing a challenging-to-access medium-sized ring could be synthesized in excellent yields. We report a set of electrochemically regulated protocols for the divergent synthesis of ketones and β-keto esters from the same β-hydroxycarboxylic acid starting materials.![]()
