Abstract
Herein, we report a mild transition metal-free organophotoredox-catalyzed approach for β-hydroxytrifluoromethylation of unactivated alkenes using CF3SO2Na and acridinium salt. The protocol is compatible with various mono-, di-, and trisubstituted aliphatic unactivated alkenes containing numerous functional groups and natural product derivatives. Further, the postsynthetic modifications of the synthesized trifluoromethylated products have been demonstrated through cross-coupling and functional group interconversion reactions. The method proved to be scalable and it works smoothly under the direct exposure of sunlight. A plausible mechanism has been proposed based on the fluorescence quenching experiment and cyclic voltammetry analysis.

Abstract
In recent years, hydrofluorocarbon compounds such as chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons, and 2-bromo-2-chloro-1,1,1-trifluoroethane (halothane) have been used as fluorine-containing building blocks to construct functional fluorine-containing compounds, e. g., polymers, liquid crystals, and medicines. Hydrofluorocarbons promote the formation of reactive fluoroalkyl or fluoroalkenyl species via anionic or radical processes, and these species can act as nucleophiles or electrophiles depending on the reaction conditions. Progress in fluorine chemistry using hydrofluorocarbons in the last 30 years is described in this review and diverse reactions are discussed, including the fluoroalkyl/alkenyl products and proposed mechanisms involved.

Abstract
The direct construction of 1,3-hydroxyfunctionalized molecules is still a significant challenge, as they can currently be obtained through multiple synthetic steps. Herein, we report a general and efficient 1,3-hydroxyfunctionalization of arylcyclopropanes by electrochemical oxidation with a strategic choice of nucleophiles and H2O. 1,3-Amino alcohols, 1,3-alkynyl alcohols, 1,3-hydroxyesters, and 1,3-halo alcohols are achieved with high levels of chemo- and regio-selectivity, opening a new dimension for 1,3-difunctionalization reaction.

Abstract
We herein describe a straightforward allylic difluoromethylation reaction of unactivated alkenes. Compared to cross-couplings of prefunctionalized allylic substrates for the construction of allylic CF2H bonds, this reaction employs readily available alkenes as substrates under mild conditions. Difluoroacetic acid is used as an inexpensive and easy-to-handle source of CF2H radical under visible light irradiation with PIDA. The copper catalyst plays an important role of diverting the reaction pathway toward allylic difluoromethylation as opposed to previously found hydrodifluoromethylation.

Abstract
AbstractOrganic molecules containing the trifluoromethyl (CF3) group play a vital role in pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and materials. New trifluoromethylation methods should encompass capabilities to address issues in efficiency, selectivity, and CF3 source all at once. Fluoroform (CF3H), an industrial byproduct, has emerged as an attractive CF3 source. The reaction profile of the [CuCF3] reagent derived from fluoroform has surpassed its original applications in cross-coupling-type trifluoromethylation. We have discovered a host of unique copper-mediated trifluoromethylation reactions using [CuCF3] from fluoroform, especially under oxidative conditions, to deliver efficient and selective synthesis of trifluoromethylated compounds.1 Introduction2 Construction of C–CF3 Bonds for the Synthesis of Trifluoromethylated Building Blocks2.1 C(sp)–CF3 Bond Formation2.2 C(sp2)–CF3 Bond Formation2.3 C(sp3)–CF3 Bond Formation3 Domino Synthesis of Trifluoromethylated Heterocycles3.1 3-(Trifluoromethyl)indoles3.2 3-(Trifluoromethyl)benzofurans3.3 2-(Trifluoromethyl)indoles4 Trifluoromethylative Difunctionalization of Arynes4.1 Trifluoromethylation–Allylation of Arynes4.2 1,2-Bis(trifluoromethylation) of Arynes5 Pentafluoroethylation of Unactivated Alkenes6 Conclusion

Abstract
We have found that the CuCF2CF3 complex generated from low-cost pentafluoroethane is a convenient and practical source for the CF2CF3 radical under aerobic conditions at room temperature. Using this system, readily available unactivated alkenes can be pentafluoroethylated to provide novel allylic CF2CF3 compounds with excellent E-selectivity and functional group tolerability. Mechanistic studies including TEMPO-CF2CF3 trapping and radical clock experiments provided strong evidence for radical pathways, offering a new opportunity for copper-mediated radical perfluoroalkylation.

Abstract
N-Alkylated 4-pyridones were obtained through a one-pot procedure involving either normal or interrupted Pummerer reactions between triflic anhydride-activated sulfoxides and 4-fluoropyridine derivatives, followed by hydrolysis. On the other hand, triflic anhydride-activated benzyl 6-fluoro-2-pyridyl sulfoxide could react with alkenes or alkynes to afford thiazolo[3,2-a]pyridin-5-ones, via the pyridinium salt intermediates.

Abstract
A metal-free trifluoromethylation of hydrazones with Togni's reagent under mild conditions was developed. Various functional groups including ester, methoxy, dimethoxy, nitro, halogen, and heterocyclic compounds were tolerated. This simple and green strategy provides a practical tool to construct C(sp3)-CF3 bonds.

Abstract
We herein describe an unprecedented 1,2-bis(trifluoromethylation) of arynes with [CuCF3] in the presence of an oxidant DDQ. The method allows the rapid construction of a new class of 1,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)arenes in one-step from aryne precursors under mild conditions. Its synthetic utility has been demonstrated in the preparation of bis(trifluoromethylated) molecules with potential pharmaceutical and materials science applications. Mechanistic studies indicated the presence of an o-trifluoromethyl aryl radical intermediate via CF3 group transfer from [CuCF3] to the aryne.

Abstract
A simple protocol to overcome the problematic trifluoromethylation of carbonyl compounds by the potent greenhouse gas "HFC-23, fluoroform" with a potassium base is described. Simply the use of glymes as a solvent or an additive dramatically improves the yields of this transformation. Experimental results and DFT calculations suggest that the beneficial effect deals with glyme coordination to the K+ to produce [K(polyether)n]+ whose diminished Lewis acidity renders the reactive anionoid CF3 counterion species more 'naked', thereby slowing down its undesirable decomposition to CF2 and F- and simultaneously increasing its reactivity towards the organic substrate.

Abstract
A novel CuBr-catalyzed hydroxytrifluoromethylation reaction was investigated. Substituted 3-benzylidene-2-arylisoindolin-1-ones was reacted with sodium trifluoromethanesulfinate to afford substituted-3-hydroxy-2-aryl-3-(2,2,2-trifluoro-1-arylethyl)isoindolin-1-one. The reaction proceeded at 25 °C in air atmosphere in the absence of base and ligands. Our results indicate that trifluoromethyl free radical tends to attack a double bond rather than aryl in this reaction.
