Abstract
A temperature-dependent cascade of reactions between tryptamines and propargylic alcohols was developed to achieve selective formation of pyrroloindoline and pyrrolo[1,2-a]indole heterocycles by Ca(II) catalysis. The cascade consists of electrophilic addition of allene at the C3 carbon of indole followed by intramolecular cyclization at 60 °C to yield pyrroloindolines. Furthermore, simultaneous 1,2-allene migration and pyrrolidine ring opening were followed by intramolecular cyclization via C-N bond formation at reflux temperature to obtain pyrrolo[1,2-a]indole scaffolds. A wide range of substrates, a clean reaction profile, scalability, and good to excellent yields are the advantages of this protocol.

Abstract
This article demonstrates recent innovative cascade annulation methods for preparing functionalized carbazoles and their related polyaromatic heterocyclic compounds enabled by Lewis acid catalysts. Highly substituted carbazole scaffolds were synthesized via Lewis acid mediated Friedel-Crafts arylation, electrocyclization, intramolecular cyclization, cycloaddition, C-N bond-formations, aromatization and cascade domino reactions, metal-catalyzed, iodine catalyzed reactions and multi-component reactions. This review article mainly focuses on Lewis acid-mediated recent synthetic methods to access a variety of electron-rich and electron-poor functional groups substituted carbazole frameworks in one-pot reactions. Polyaromatic carbazole and their related nitrogen-based heterocyclic compounds were found in several synthetic applications in pharma industries, energy devices, and materials sciences. Moreover, the review paper briefly summarised new synthetic strategies of carbazole preparation approaches will assist academic and pharma industries in identifying innovative protocols for producing poly-functionalized carbazoles and related highly complex heterocyclic compounds and discovering active pharmaceutical drugs or carbazole-based alkaloids and natural products.

Abstract
(IPr)GaCl3/AgSbF6, AgSbF6, and GaCl3 catalyzed substitution of the hydroxyl of secondary and tertiary propargylic alcohols with organoboronic acids via C-C bond formation, and GaCl3 effectively synthesized all-carbon quaternary propargylic centers. These catalysts performed the substitution at carbons bearing alkyl substituents, which has been problematic for other systems. Highly hindered carbon stereocenters were thus produced, including quaternary centers bearing doubly ortho-substituted aryl rings, that are difficult to access with traditional methods.

Abstract
Catalyst-controlled divergent reactions of 2,3-disubstituted indoles with propargylic alcohols were developed for the first time. In the presence of TsOH or B(C6F5)3 as catalyst, 2,3-disubstituted indoles reacted smoothly with 3-alkynyl-3-hydroxyisoindolinones to afford 3H-benzo[b]azepines by selective C2(sp2)-C3(sp2) ring expansion of indoles. In contrast, decreasing the catalyst strength (e.g., with chiral phosphoric acid) interrupted the cascade reactions, affording axially chiral tetrasubstituted allenes bearing an adjacent chiral quaternary carbon stereocenter. Control experiments provided insights into the reaction mechanism.

Abstract
A hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP)-catalyzed difluoroalkylation of propargylic alcohols with difluoroenoxysilanes to access structurally diverse tetrasubstituted difluoroalkyl allenes has been developed. This convenient procedure enables the rapid construction of highly functionalized multisubstituted fluorinated allenes in a mild and straightforward way. Furthermore, the synthetic potential of this methodology has been demonstrated by the facile synthesis of various structurally interesting fluorine-containing molecules such as gem-difluorosubstituted dihydropyran, tetrasubstituted CF2H-allene, and multisubstituted fluorinated cyclopentanone derivatives.

Abstract
A silver-catalyzed formal [3 + 3] annulation of 3-methyleneisoindolin-1-one with alkynol for the synthesis of 1,5-dihydroindolizin-3(2H)-one derivatives is disclosed. The protocol allows practical synthesis of N-heterocyclic scaffolds with a broad scope of functional groups and could be efficiently scaled up to gram scale, which incarnates a potential application of this methodology. In addition, a range of chlorine anion substitution of alkenes can be constructed by adjusting the structure of the alkynol substrates with the use of TMSCl.

Abstract
An approach to di- and trihetera[3.3.n]propellanes (n = 2-4 ), advanced morpholine and piperazine analogues, is developed. The key step of the reaction sequence included a [3 + 2] cycloaddition reaction of unsaturated vicinal dicarboxylic acid derivatives and in situ generated azomethine ylide resulting in the formation of the pyrrolidine ring. One more heteroaliphatic ring (i.e., pyrrolidine or tetrahydrofuran) was annelated by nucleophilic cyclization of the appropriate 1,4-dielectrophilic intermediates. There were 11 examples of the title products obtained in 3-5 steps on a multigram scale with 10-72% overall yields. Additionally, molecular structures of homologous dihetera[3.3.n]propellanes, analogues of morpholine, were obtained from X-ray diffraction studies and analyzed using exit vector plots (EVPs). It was shown that the scaffolds obtained are somewhat larger as compared to the parent morpholine and bicyclic 3-oxa-7-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane. Moreover, despite very similar chemical structures, they provide a very distinct spatial position of heteroatoms, which is clearly seen from the conformation adopted by a formal eight-membered ring including both N and O atoms (i.e., crown, boat-chair, twist chair-chair, and boat-boat for the oxaza[3.3.2]-, -[3.3.3]-, -[4.3.3]propellanes, and 3-oxa-7-azabicyclo[3.3.0]octane, respectively).

Abstract
A Zn(OTf)2-catalyzed formal [3 + 3] cascade annulation strategy for the synthesis of functionalized chromeno[2,3-b]pyridines has been developed using propargylic alcohols and 2-aminochromones as the substrates. The protocol provides a convenient and atom-economical method of accessing a broad range of chromeno[2,3-b]pyridine derivatives in excellent yields with good functional-group tolerance. The method is also effective on the gram scale, which highlights the inherent practicality of this synthetic transformation.

Abstract
Gold-catalysed intramolecular reaction of unprotected/protected 3-dienyl indoles leads to the formation of functionalised terphenylamines with high efficiency; this reaction can also be accomplished in one pot by starting with 2-arylindole and propargylic alcohols. This reaction occurs via 3-dienyl indoles and proceeds likely by gold-catalysed cascade cyclisation, aromatisation and fragmentation of the indole heterocyclic moiety. We have also found that PTSA can work well giving comparable yields, but at least one mole equivalent of PTSA is required. On the other hand, 3-indenylindoles have been synthesised from indole-2-carboxylates (2-carboxyindoles) and propargylic alcohols through Brønsted acid mediation. Many of these indenylindoles exhibit isomerism (probably diastereomers) in the solution state (1H NMR). Two examples of indolo-indenyl acetates have been prepared by reacting the above terphenylanilines with PhI(OAc)2. Key products are characterised by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
The transition-metal-free diastereoselective C(sp2)-C(sp3) cross-coupling between unprotected diols and boronic acids or potassium organotrifluoroborates is reported. Depending on the reaction conditions, the syn or the anti reaction products are obtained in a stereocomplementary fashion. This type of coupling is developed with alkenyl-, heteroaryl- and arylboron compounds as carbon nucleophiles.
