Abstract
We report a versatile method for C2 functionalization of (benz)oxazoles and (benzo)thiazoles employing a tert-butylimino-tri(pyrrolidino)phosphorane/sodium trifluoroacetate (BTPP/NaTFA) "dual-base" system in combination with an air-stable Ni(II) precatalyst containing either CyPAd-DalPhos or PhPAd-DalPhos. These catalyst systems enable access to a reaction scope that encompasses a range of challenging oxidative addition partners, including (hetero)aryl chlorides as well as pivalates, tosylates, and other related phenol derivatives. The utility of this method is demonstrated through the derivatization of an active pharmaceutical ingredient and 5 mmol synthesis of a thiazole derivative.

Abstract
Herein, we report an unprecedented cascade reaction of C(sp2)-H addition to carbonyl and the C(sp2)-CN/C(sp2)-H coupling of 2-(2-oxo-2-arylethyl)benzonitriles with indoles enabled by commercially available TsOH·H2O. The protocol represents the first metal-free C(sp2)-CN/C(sp2)-H coupling, affording a new route for the synthesis of various benzo[a]carbazole derivatives with a broad substrate scope, high yields, and simple conditions.

Abstract
A nickel-catalyzed thiolation of aryl nitriles has been developed to access functionalized aryl thioethers. The ligand dcype (1,2-bis(dicyclohexylphosphino)ethane) as well as the base KOt Bu (potassium tert-butoxide) are essential to achieve this transformation. This scalable and practical process involves both a C-C bond activation and a C-S bond formation. Furthermore, this reaction shows a high functional-group tolerance and enables the late-stage functionalization of important molecules.

Abstract
The functionalization of C-H bonds has become a major thread of research in organic synthesis that can be assessed from different angles, for instance depending on the type of catalyst employed or the overall transformation that is carried out. This review compiles recent progress in synthetic methodology that merges the functionalization of C-H bonds along with the cleavage of C-C bonds, either in intra- or intermolecular fashion. The manuscript is organized in two main sections according to the type of substrate in which the cleavage of the C-C bond takes place, basically attending to the scission of strained or unstrained C-C bonds. Furthermore, the related research works have been grouped on the basis of the mechanistic aspects of the different transformations that are carried out, i.e.,: (a) classic transition metal catalysis where organometallic intermediates are involved; (b) processes occurring via radical intermediates generated through the use of radical initiators or photochemically; and (c) reactions that are catalyzed or mediated by suitable Lewis or Brønsted acid or bases, where molecular rearrangements take place. Thus, throughout the review a wide range of synthetic approaches show that the combination of C-H and C-C cleavage in single synthetic operations can serve as a platform to achieve complex molecular skeletons in a straightforward manner, among them interesting carbo- and heterocyclic scaffolds.

Abstract
A method for the coupling of aryl chlorides and thiophenols using an air-stable nickel(0) catalyst is described. This thioetherification procedure can be effectively applied to a range of electronically diverse aryl/heteroaryl chlorides without more expensive metal catalysts such as palladium, iridium, or ruthenium. This investigation also illustrates both, a variety of thiol coupling partners and, in certain cases, the use of Cs2CO3.

Abstract
The first example of nickel(II)-catalyzed site-selective C-H bond trifluoromethylation of arylamine in water is established. In this transformation, a coordinating activation strategy is performed by the utilization of picolinamide as a directing group, and target products are obtained in moderate to good yields. In addition, the catalyst-in-water system can be reutilized eight times with a slight loss of catalytic activity and applied in the green, concise synthesis of acid red 266. Furthermore, a series of control experiments verify that a single-electron transfer mechanism is responsible for this reaction.
