Abstract
An asymmetric Michael/Friedel-Crafts cascade reaction with Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) nitroallylic esters and 3-pyrrolyloxindoles has been developed for the stereoselective construction of spirooxindole-containing tetrahydroindolizines. A range of tetracyclic scaffolds possessing three consecutive chiral centers, including an all-carbon quaternary stereocenter, were generated in 53-85% isolated yields with high diastereoselectivities and enantiopurities (≥3:1 dr, 50-98% ee). A newly synthesized bifunctional secondary amine/squaramide organocatalyst was demonstrated to exhibit better stereochemical control than their tertiary analogues.

Abstract
Among the variety of sulfonamides, triflamides (CF3SO2NHR, TfNHR) occupy a special position in organic chemistry. Triflamides are widely used as reagents, efficient catalysts or additives in numerous reactions. The reasons for the widespread use of these compounds are their high NH-acidity, lipophilicity, catalytic activity and specific chemical properties. Their strong electron-withdrawing properties and low nucleophilicity, combined with their high NH-acidity, makes it possible to use triflamides in a vast variety of organic reactions. This review is devoted to the synthesis and use of N-trifluoromethanesulfonyl derivatives in organic chemistry, medicine, biochemistry, catalysis and agriculture. Part of the work is a review of areas and examples of the use of bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (triflimide, (CF3SO2)2NH, Tf2NH). Being one of the strongest NH-acids, triflimide, and especially its salts, are widely used as catalysts in cycloaddition reactions, Friedel–Crafts reactions, condensation reactions, heterocyclization and many others. Triflamides act as a source of nitrogen in C-amination (sulfonamidation) reactions, the products of which are useful building blocks in organic synthesis, catalysts and ligands in metal complex catalysis, and have found applications in medicine. The addition reactions of triflamide in the presence of oxidizing agents to alkenes and dienes are considered separately.

Abstract
A class of o-sulfonylaminostyryl isoxazole synthons were designed and demonstrated to be useful building blocks in asymmetric cascade aza-Michael/Michael reaction with 3-olefinic oxindoles. This squaramide-catalysed cascade reaction afforded structurally complex isoxazole-containing spirooxindole tetrahydroquinolines bearing three contiguous stereocenters in good to excellent yields (up to 99%) with high diastereoselectivities (up to >20 : 1 dr) and enantioselectivities (up to 88% ee). Moreover, the gram-scale synthesis and synthetic transformations were also demonstrated.

Abstract
We have developed an efficient and mild enantioselective palladium-catalyzed (5+3) cycloaddition of vinylcyclopropanes and oxidopyrylium ylides generated in situ from benzopyranones, in the presence of a chiral PHOX ligand. These reactions afford various highly functionalized bridged oxa-[3.3.1]carbocycles with three stereogenic centers that are challenging to synthesize, in moderate to good yields and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A novel approach for the asymmetric construction of polycyclic indazole skeletons via enamine-imine activation and PCET activation was developed by merging organocatalysis with photocatalysis through an asymmetric triple-reaction sequence. In this process, five C-X bonds and five consecutive chiral centers were efficiently constructed. Differently substituted polycyclic indazole deriatives were successfully constructed with satisfactory results under mild conditions.

Abstract
Bridged polycycles are privileged molecular skeletons with wide occurrence in bioactive natural products and pharmaceuticals. Therefore, they have been the pursing target molecules of numerous chemists. The rapid and convenient generation of sp3-rich complex three-dimensional molecular skeletons from simple and easily available aromatics has made dearomatization a highly valuable synthetic tool for the construction of rigid and challenging bridged rings. This review summarizes the-state-of-the-art advances of dearomatization strategies in the application of bridged ring formation, discusses their advantages and limitations and the in-depth mechanism, and highlights their synthetic value in the total synthesis of natural products. We wish this review will provide an important reference for medicinal and synthetic chemists and will inspire further development in this intriguing research area.

Abstract
Enantioselective additions to oxocarbenium ions are high-value synthetic transformations but have proven challenging to achieve. In particular, the oxa-Pictet-Spengler reaction has only recently been rendered enantioselective. We report experimental and computational studies on the mechanism of this unusual transformation. Herein we reveal that this reaction is hypothesized to proceed through a self-assembled ternary hydrogen bonding complex involving the substrate, chiral phosphate ion, and a urea hydrogen-bond donor. The computed transition state reveals C2-symmetric grooves in the chiral phosphate that are occupied by the urea and substrate. Occupation of one of these grooves by the urea co-catalyst tunes the available reactive volume and enhances the stereoselectivity of the chiral phosphate catalyst.

Abstract
The first highly diastereo- and enantioselective synthesis of bridged O, O-acetals embedded with spirooxindoles has been developed. Dioxindoles and 2-hydroxy cinnamaldehydes were employed as the reaction partners in this method. The desired products were obtained via diaryl prolinol TBS ether catalyzed Michael reaction followed by acetal formation with TFA.

Abstract
Carbocations stabilized by adjacent oxygen atoms are useful reactive intermediates involved in fundamental chemical transformations. These oxocarbenium ions typically lack sufficient electron density to engage established chiral Brønsted or Lewis acid catalysts, presenting a major challenge to their widespread application in asymmetric catalysis. Leading methods for selectivity operate primarily through electrostatic pairing between the oxocarbenium ion and a chiral counterion. A general approach to new enantioselective transformations of oxocarbenium ions requires novel strategies that address the weak binding capabilities of these intermediates. We demonstrate herein a novel cooperative catalysis system for selective reactions with oxocarbenium ions. This new strategy has been applied to a highly selective and rapid oxa-Pictet-Spengler reaction and highlights a powerful combination of an achiral hydrogen bond donor with a chiral Brønsted acid.
