Abstract
A copper-catalyzed trifluoromethylation of benzene-linked 1,7-dienes with 1-trifluoromethyl-1,2-benziodoxole via a radical cascade cyclization process for the synthesis of mono- and bis-trifluoromethylated benzoxepines is developed. The selectivity depends on substituents on the double bond of the allyl group in 1,7-dienes. The large-scale operation and late-stage functionalization of bioactive molecules reveal the promising utility of this protocol.

Abstract
Visible-light-induced regioselective cascade radical cyclization of α-bromocarbonyls for the synthesis of benzazepine derivatives is described. In the presence of fac-Ir(ppy)3 (2.0 mol %) as a photocatalyst, 2,6-lutidine as a base, and dichloromethane as a solvent, the reactions proceed smoothly to afford seven-membered rings in good yields. This protocol features a broad substrate scope, excellent functional group tolerance, and mild reaction conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies reveal that the generation of the α-carbon radical is more prone to react with the 1,1-diphenylethylene tethered acrylamide to generate the stable seven-membered heterocycle.

Abstract
Organophotocatalyzed three-component 1,2-difluoroacetyl/alkyl/perfluoroalkylative thio/selenocyanation of styrene derivatives under stoichiometric, transition metal-, oxidant-, and additive-free, and mild redox-neutral conditions is reported. Organophotocatalyst 4CzIPN operates the overall radical-polar-crossover mechanistic cycle via initial oxidative luminescence quenching, and the key intermediates were experimentally detected. Selective mono-alkylative thiocyanation of alkenes using dibromoalkanes is also demonstrated. This one-pot synthetic methodology is suitable for primary, secondary, and tertiary alkyl halides and also extended for double alkylative thiocyanation of the dibromoalkanes with excellent yields.

Abstract
A simple and efficient base-mediated decarboxylative annulation of ynones with methyl 2-(2-bromophenyl)acetates has been developed. A broad range of benzoxepines were prepared with a broad substrate scope and high regioselectivity in moderate to excellent yields under transition-metal-free conditions. This method proceeds through a tandem [2 + 4] annulation, ring-opening decarboxylative reaction, and the intramolecular nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction. Additionally, the key intermediates were successfully obtained and characterized unambiguously by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, which could favorably support a decarboxylative annulation mechanism. Furthermore, gram-scale reaction and synthetic applications for the further functionalization are also studied.

Abstract
An unprecedented [5 + 2] spirocyclization route to obtain a vital class of functionalized spirobenzo[b]oxepine-cyclopropanes in good to high yields with excellent diastereoselectivities is reported. This domino reaction proceeds through a regioselective oxa-Michael addition of ortho-hydroxyacetophenones as 1,5-binucleophiles to in situ produced highly reactive cyclopropenes from 2-aroyl-1-chlorocyclopropanecarboxylates triggered by Cs2CO3 and the subsequent intramolecular aldol reaction under heating conditions, enabling the formation of new C-O and C-C bonds for benzo[b]oxepine ring synthesis. Moreover, at ambient temperature, the above C-O/C-C bond-forming event takes place preferentially via a [4 + 2] annulation path over a spirocyclization route, leading to substituted fused-cyclopropanes with good diastereoselectivities. Gratifyingly, further alterations of the obtained spirobenzo[b]oxepines and tetrahydrocyclopropa[b]chromenes afford fascinating classes of 4H-chromen-4-ones and cyclopenta[c]chromenes, respectively, under metal-free conditions.

Abstract
Radical reactions are powerful in creating carbon-carbon and carbon-heteroatom bonds. Designing one-pot radical reactions with cascade transformations to assemble the cyclic skeletons with two new functional groups is both synthetically and operationally efficient. Summarized in this paper is the recent development of reactions involving radical addition and cyclization of dienes, diynes, enynes, as well as arene-bridged and arene-terminated compounds for the preparation of difunctionalization cyclic compounds. Reactions carried out with radical initiators, transition metal-catalysis, photoredox, and electrochemical conditions are included.

Abstract
A highly efficient microwave-assisted copper(II)-catalyzed cyclization cascade was established starting from readily accessible O/N-propargylated 2-hydroxy or 2-aminobenzaldehydes and o-phenylenediamines to synthesize densely functionalized imidazo[1,2-d][1,4]oxazepines and imidazo[1,2-d][1,4]diazepines in high yields (up to 93%). This one-pot two-step process was found to be highly atom economical (-H2O, -H2) and operationally simple and enabled the generation of two new heterocycle rings (seven- and five-membered) and three new C-N bonds in a single synthetic operation. These reactions well tolerated a variety of substituents including electron-donating and electron-withdrawing groups and furnished the desired fused heterocycles in high yields under microwave irradiation in a very short reaction time. The mechanism of the established protocol involves sequential imine formation-intramolecular cyclization-air oxidation followed by 7-exo-dig cyclization steps. A comparative study between the microwave-assisted approach and conventional heating was also performed to demonstrate the advantages of the microwave-assisted protocol in terms of high yield and shorter reaction time.

Abstract
A novel and facile methodology for the synthesis of sulfonated benzo[b]oxepinone and chromane derivatives was reported by the reaction of propargyl chalcones with arylsulfonyl chloride via radical cascade annulation/sulfonation under laboratory conditions. Readily available propargyl chalcones, commercialized arylsulfonyl chloride, and simple reaction conditions make this six(seven)-membered oxygen-containing heterocycles' synthetic strategy more attractive and with significant application values.

Abstract
Reported herein is a visible-light-induced, catalyst-free intramolecular cyclization of 4-phenylsulfonyl-2,3,5,6-tetrachloropyridine, leading to rapid assembly of a series of unprecedented benzo[4,5]thieno[3,2-c]pyridine 5,5-dioxide scaffolds under mild conditions. The rational introduction of a perchloropyridin-4-yl module significantly facilitated this photoinduced process and offers a versatile platform for broad structural variation. Mechanistic studies revealed that a newly identified charge-transfer complex with carbonate is crucial to this photoinduced process.

Abstract
A visible-light-promoted olefinic C-H trifluoromethylation of enamides was developed by employing cheap and stable Langlois' reagent as the CF3 source. A series of β-CF3 enamides were obtained in moderate to good yields with high E-isomer selectivity under mild conditions. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that molecular oxygen acts as the terminal oxidant for this net oxidative process, and the E isomer selectivity could be well explained by a base-assisted deprotonation of the cation intermediate.

Abstract
Reported herein is a visible-light-induced sulfonation of α-trifluoromethylstyrenes with sodium sulfinates, which provides a series of α-trifluoromethyl-β-sulfonyl tertiary alcohols. This new synthetic protocol is enabled by a charge-transfer complex between oxygen and sulfinates, featuring broad substrate scope and scalability. Excellent functional group compatibility and chemoselectivity render this method suitable for sulfonation of pharmaceutically relevant molecules. In the presence of D2O, deuteriotrifluorinated products were also obtained, further demonstrating the flexibility and synthetic potentials of this strategy.

Abstract
We herein report an unprecedented photoinduced cyclization/defluorination domino process of N-allylbromodifluoroacetamide with cyclic secondary amines. Consequently, a wide array of valuable 3-fluoro-1,5-dihydro-2H-pyrrol-2-ones were facilely prepared from readily available starting materials under mild conditions. Preliminary mechanistic investigations suggest that a radical chain propagation and amine-promoted defluorination pathway are presumably involved in this transformation.

Abstract
Herein we disclose three new methods for the straightforward and efficient synthesis of 3-arylchromones following the arylation of ortho-hydroxyarylenaminones by vast diversities of bench-stable and easy-to-use sulfonium salts and arenesulfonyl chlorides. Both developed methods, namely the light-mediated photoredox and electrophilic arylation, showed good efficiency, and are feasible for the preparation of 3-arylchromones in good-to-excellent yields. This work showcases the first described attempt where the sulfonium salts and arenesulfonyl chlorides were successfully utilized for the construction of the chromone heterocycle system.

Abstract
A visible-light-induced, catalyst-free radical cross-coupling cyclization of diselenides or disulfides with N-allylbromodifluoroacetamide has been developed. This developed protocol exhibits good functional group tolerance and affords a variety of 4-thio- and 4-seleno-substituted 3,3-difluoro-γ-lactams in moderate to good yields. Based on control experiments, a plausible radical-radical cross-coupling pathway is proposed.

Abstract
The first photoredox-catalyzed defluoroborylation of polyfluoroarenes with NHC-BH3 has been facilely achieved at room temperature via a single-electron-transfer (SET)/radical addition pathway. This new strategy makes full use of the advantage of photoredox catalysis to generate the key boryl radical via direct activation of a B-H bond. Good functional group tolerance and high regioselectivity offer this protocol incomparable advantages in preparing a wide array of valuable polyfluoroarylboron compounds. Moreover, both computational and experimental studies were performed to illustrate the reaction mechanism.

Abstract
A photoinduced SET process enables the direct B-H bond activation of NHC-boranes. In contrast to common hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) strategies, this photoinduced reaction simply takes advantage of the beneficial redox potentials of NHC-boranes, thus obviating the need for extra radical initiators. The resulting NHC-boryl radical was used for the borylation of a wide range of α-trifluoromethylalkenes and alkenes with diverse electronic and structural features, providing facile access to highly functionalized borylated molecules. Labeling and photoquenching experiments provide insight into the mechanism of this photoinduced SET pathway.

Abstract
Diversity-oriented synthesis (DOS) has become a powerful synthetic tool that facilitates the construction of nature-inspired and privileged chemical space, particularly for sp3 -rich non-flat scaffolds, which are needed for phenotypic screening campaigns. These diverse compound collections led to the discovery of novel chemotypes that can modulate the protein function in underrepresented biological space. In this context, starting material-driven DOS is one of the most important tools used to build diverse compound libraries with rich stereochemical and scaffold diversity. To this end, ene/yne tethered salicylaldehyde derivatives have emerged as a pluripotent chemical platform, the products of which led to the construction of a privileged chemical space with significant biological activities. In this review, various domino transformations employing o-alkene/alkyne tethered aryl aldehyde/ketone platforms are described and discussed, with emphasis on the period from 2011 to date.

Abstract
The selective incorporation of fluorinated motifs, in particular CF2FG (FG=a functional group) and CF2H groups, into organic compounds has attrracted increasing attention since organofluorine molecules are of the utmost importance in the areas of nuclear imaging, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and material sciences. A variety of synthetic approaches has been employed in late-stage difluoroalkylation reactions. Visible light photoredox catalysis for the production of CF2FG and CF2H radicals has provided a more sustainable alternative to other conventional radical-triggered reactions from the viewpoint of safety, cost, availability, and "green" chemistry. A wide range of difluoroalkylating reagents has been successfully implemented in these organic transformations in the presence of transition metal complexes or organic photocatalysts. In most cases, upon excitation via visible light irradiation with fluorescent light bulbs or blue light-emitting diode (LED) lamps, these photocatalysts can act as both reductive and oxidative quenchers, thus enabling the application of electron-donor or electron-acceptor difluoroalkylating reagents for the generation of CF2FG and CF2H radicals. Subsequent radical addition to substrates and additional organic transformations afford the corresponding difluoroalkylated derivatives. The present review describes the distinct strategies for the transition metal- and organic-photocatalyzed difluoroalkylation of a broad range of organic substrates by visible light irradiation reported in the literature since 2014.
