Rhodium(III)-Catalyzed Oxidative Annulation of Ketoximes with Sulfonamide: A Direct Approach to Indazoles

Modular Assembly of Pyrrolo[3,4-c]isoquinolines through Rh-Catalyzed Cascade C-H Activation/Annulation of O-Methyl Aryloximes with Maleimides

An efficient and practical strategy for the construction of pyrrolo[3,4-c]isoquinolines via Rh(III)-catalyzed cascade C-H activation and subsequential annulation process from easily available O-methyl aryloximes and maleimides has been disclosed. This facile protocol does not require any inert atmosphere protection with good efficiency in a low loading of catalyst and exhibits good functional group tolerance and broad substrate scope. Notably, the as-prepared products show potential photophysical properties.

Triflamides and Triflimides: Synthesis and Applications

Among the variety of sulfonamides, triflamides (CF₃SO₂NHR, TfNHR) occupy a special position in organic chemistry. Triflamides are widely used as reagents, efficient catalysts or additives in numerous reactions. The reasons for the widespread use of these compounds are their high NH-acidity, lipophilicity, catalytic activity and specific chemical properties. Their strong electron-withdrawing properties and low nucleophilicity, combined with their high NH-acidity, makes it possible to use triflamides in a vast variety of organic reactions. This review is devoted to the synthesis and use of N-trifluoromethanesulfonyl derivatives in organic chemistry, medicine, biochemistry, catalysis and agriculture. Part of the work is a review of areas and examples of the use of bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (triflimide, (CF₃SO₂)₂NH, Tf₂NH). Being one of the strongest NH-acids, triflimide, and especially its salts, are widely used as catalysts in cycloaddition reactions, Friedel–Crafts reactions, condensation reactions, heterocyclization and many others. Triflamides act as a source of nitrogen in C-amination (sulfonamidation) reactions, the products of which are useful building blocks in organic synthesis, catalysts and ligands in metal complex catalysis, and have found applications in medicine. The addition reactions of triflamide in the presence of oxidizing agents to alkenes and dienes are considered separately.

Recent Strategies in Transition-Metal-Catalyzed Sequential C–H Activation/Annulation for One-Step Construction of Functionalized Indazole Derivatives

Designing new synthetic strategies for indazoles is a prominent topic in contemporary research. The transition-metal-catalyzed C–H activation/annulation sequence has arisen as a favorable tool to construct functionalized indazole derivatives with improved tolerance in medicinal applications, functional flexibility, and structural complexity. In the current review article, we aim to outline and summarize the most common synthetic protocols to use in the synthesis of target indazoles via a transition-metal-catalyzed C–H activation/annulation sequence for the one-step synthesis of functionalized indazole derivatives. We categorized the text according to the metal salts used in the reactions. Some metal salts were used as catalysts, and others may have been used as oxidants and/or for the activation of precatalysts. The roles of some metal salts in the corresponding reaction mechanisms have not been identified. It can be expected that the current synopsis will provide accessible practical guidance to colleagues interested in the subject.

A Palladium-Catalyzed 4CzIPN-Mediated Decarboxylative Acylation Reaction of O-Methyl Ketoximes with α-Keto Acids under Visible Light

This work presents a palladium-catalyzed oxime ether-directed ortho-selective benzoylation using benzoylformic acid as the acyl source with a palladium catalyst and 4CzIPN as the co-catalyst under light. Various non-symmetric benzophenone derivatives were obtained in moderate to good yields. A preliminary mechanism study revealed that the reaction proceeds through a free radical pathway.

The synthesis of aryl-heteroaryl derivatives via the RhIII-catalyzed heteroarylation of arenes and heteroaromatic boronates

An efficient Rh^III-catalyzed strategy for constructing aryl-heteroaryl derivatives with removable ketoxime ether auxiliaries via direct C-H heteroarylation based on arenes and heteroaromatic boronates has been disclosed. This protocol could tolerate various pyridine, pyrimidine, pyrazole, thiophene, and furan heteroaromatic boronates well, providing the desired products with high reactivities and excellent regioselectivity. The easy synthetic accessibility may offer potential for application in the synthesis of heterocyclic drug molecules containing aryl-heteroaryl motifs.

Rh(III)-Catalyzed allylic C-H amidation of unactivated alkenes with in situ generated iminoiodinanes

Rh(iii)-catalyzed allylic C-H amidation of substituted alkenes with in situ generated iminoiodinanes is demonstrated. The presented protocol is compatible with differently functionalized unactivated terminal alkenes and internal alkenes. In terminal alkenes, branch selectivity was observed exclusively. Based on the detailed mechanistic investigation, a possible reaction mechanism involving the in situ generated π-allyl as well as metal-nitrene intermediates has been proposed.

Copper(II)-Dioxygen Facilitated Activation of Nitromethane: Nitrogen Donors for the Synthesis of Substituted 2-Hydroxyimino-2-phenylacetonitriles and Phthalimides

A simple and efficient method is explored for the synthesis of 2-hydroxyimino-2-phenylacetonitriles (2) and phthalimides (4), by using nitromethane as nitrogen donors. Both reactions are promoted by Cu(II) system with the participation of dioxygen as an oxidant. The scope of the method has been successfully demonstrated with a total of 51 examples. The flexible and diversified characteristics of reactions are introduced in terms of electronic effect, steric effect, position of substituted groups, and intramolecular charge transfer. Experimental studies suggest that the methyl nitrite could be a precursor in the path to the final products. A possible reaction mechanism is proposed, including the Cu(II)/O2-facilitated transformation of nitromethane to methyl nitrite, the base-induced formation of 2-hydroxyimino-2-phenylacetonitriles, and the base-dioxygen-promoted formation of phthalimides.

Ruthenium(II)-Catalyzed α-Fluoroalkenylation of Oxime Ethers with gem-Difluorostyrenes via C-H Activation and C-F Cleavage

A novel route for ruthenium(II)-catalyzed α-fluoroalkenylation of oxime ethers with gem-difluorostyrenes via C-H activation and C-F cleavage has been developed for the first time. Notably, the alkenyl units of products exhibit exclusive Z-configuration. This reaction features a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. A plausible reaction mechanism is confirmed by an available cycloruthenated intermediate. Besides, the O-methyl oximyl-directing group can be readily removed to access the α-fluoroalkenylated acetophenones.

Chelation-directed remote meta-C-H functionalization of aromatic aldehydes and ketones

We disclose herein the development of a versatile 1,2-diol directing template for palladium-catalyzed remote meta-C-H functionalization of aromatic aldehydes and ketones. In situ-generation of acetals and ketals, as well as removal afterwards, makes the C-H bond functionalization process more straightforward and efficient. This also represents the first example of chelation-directed meta-C-H functionalization of aromatic aldehydes and ketones.

Synthesis of triphenylpyridines via an oxidative cyclization reaction using Sr-doped LaCoO3 perovskite as a recyclable heterogeneous catalyst

An La_0.6Sr_0.4CoO₃ strontium-doped lanthanum cobaltite perovskite was prepared via a gelation and calcination approach and used as a heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of triphenylpyridines via the cyclization reaction between ketoximes and phenylacetic acids. The transformation proceeded via the oxidative functionalization of the sp³ C–H bond in phenylacetic acid. The La_0.6Sr_0.4CoO₃ catalyst demonstrated a superior performance to that of the pristine LaCoCO₃ as well as a series of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts. Furthermore, the La_0.6Sr_0.4CoO₃ catalyst was facilely recovered and reused without considerable decline in its catalytic efficiency. To the best of our knowledge, the combination of ketoximes with easily available phenylacetic acids is novel.

Oxidant-controlled divergent transformations of 3-aminoindazoles for the synthesis of pyrimido[1,2-b]-indazoles and aromatic nitrile-derived dithioacetals

An oxidant-controlled divergent reactivity of 3-aminoindazoles is presented, which enables the [3 + 3] annulation and C–H arylation of ketene dithioacetals in disparate pathways to assemble pyrimido[1,2-b]-indazoles and aromatic nitrile-derived dithioacetals.
