Gold-Catalyzed Heteroannulation of Anthranilic Acids with Alkynes: Synthesis of 3,1-Benzoxazin-4-ones

We demonstrated a rapid and facile approach for the synthesis of various 3,1-benzoxazin-4-ones via a gold-catalyzed heteroannulation of readily available nonprotected anthranilic acids and simple aryl alkynes. Our preliminary mechanistic investigation indicated that the double incorporation of alkynes into anthranilic acids occurs through the formation of bisenamine intermediates.

Synthesis of Functionalized 4-Hydroxy Carbazoles and Carbazole Alkaloids via Ring Expansion of Indole Cyclopentanone

The exploration of a ring expansion reaction from indole cyclopentanone to generate a range of diversely functionalized 4-hydroxyl carbazole frameworks, representing the core structure of numerous carbazole alkaloids, has been conducted under mild reaction conditions. This approach exhibits broad functional group tolerance and moderate to good yields. The practical applicability of this strategy has been demonstrated through the concise syntheses of carbazomycins A, D, and G.

Pd-Catalyzed Decarbonylative sp2 C-H Arylation: Construction of Five- and Six-Membered (Hetero)Cyclic Compounds

The cyclic compounds have wide applications in the design and synthesis of drugs and materials; thus, their efficient construction attracts much attention from the synthetic community. In this letter, we report an efficient method for preparing cyclic compounds starting from the readily available carboxylic acids. This reaction takes place through intramolecular decarbonylative sp2 C-H arylation, enabling efficient synthesis of a wide range of five- and six-membered cyclic compounds. Both carbo- and heterocycles can be produced under the reaction conditions. Moreover, this reaction features a wide substrate scope with high functional group tolerance. The scale-up experiments also show its practicality in organic synthesis. Those experimental results indicate that this reaction would find wide applications in the synthetic community.

Cu-Catalyzed Dehydrogenative C-O Cyclization for the Synthesis of Furan-Fused Thienoacenes

The first Cu-catalyzed dehydrogenative C-O cyclization for the synthesis of furan-fused thienoacenes is described. A variety of heteroacenes including a thieno[3,2-b]furan or a thieno[2,3-b]furan skeleton were synthesized by intramolecular C-H/O-H coupling. The use of a mixed solvent of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, and toluene was essential for suppressing side reactions and efficiently promoting the reaction. Double C-O cyclization was also conducted to afford highly π-expanded furan-fused thienoacenes.

Substrate-Controlled Regiodivergent Synthesis of Fluoroacylated Carbazoles via Friedel-Crafts Acylation

A general, efficient, and substrate-controlled regiodivergent trifluoroacetylation of carbazoles has been developed through Friedel-Crafts acylation. This strategy was applicable to a wide scope of readily available substituted carbazoles at air atmosphere without using a metal catalyst, affording the corresponding trifluoroacetylated carbazoles in up to 99% yield. The divergency of the products and the orientation rules have been illustrated based on different substituents on carbazole rings. This method could also be extended to the synthesis of chlorodifluoroacetylated and pentafluoropropionylated carbazoles, which have been achieved for the first time.
