Abstract
Organocatalyzed diastereo- and enantioselective [3 + 2] cycloaddition reactions of donor-acceptor (D-A) cyclopropanes with isatin-derived ketimines are presented. Different from well-developed Lewis acid activation protocols which promote the reactivity of D-A cyclopropanes through coordinating to the acceptor group, in this reaction, dicyanocyclopropylmethyl ketones can be activated through nucleophilic activation of the donor group by using dihydroquinine-derived squaramide as Brønsted base catalyst. The reaction affords functionalized spiro[oxindole-3,2'-pyrrolidines] with two nonadjacent tetra- and tri-substituted stereocenters in 83-99% yields, moderate to excellent diastereoselectivities (up to >20:1 diastereomeric ratio (dr)), and excellent enantioselectivities (up to >99% enantiomeric excess (ee)) under mild conditions.

Abstract
We reported a chiral oxamide-phosphine ligand (COAP-Ph)-Pd-catalyzed asymmetric [3+2] cycloaddition reaction between vinyl cyclopropane compounds derived from 1,3-indanedione and 2-vinylcyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylates with cyclic sulfonyl 1-azadienes. The corresponding reactions provided a series of enantiomerically active spiro cyclopentane-indandione and cyclopentane structures bearing three consecutive stereogenic centers in good yields with good diastereo- and enantioselectivity. The COAP-Pd complex serves not only to promote generation of chiral π-allyl-palladium intermediates and induce the asymmetry of the reaction, but also depress the background reaction.

Abstract
This present review delineates the repertoire of vinyl cyclopropanes and their stuctural analogues to accomplish a wide array of oxa-cycles, aza-cycles, and thia-cycles under transition metal catalysis and metal-free approaches from early 2019 to the present date. The generation of electrophilic π-allyl intermediates and 1-3/1-5-dipolarophile chemistry originating from VCPs are always green, step- and atom-economical and sustainable strategies in comparsion with prefunctionalized and/or C-H activation protocols. Here, the strained ring-system extends its applicability by relieving the strain to undergo a ring-expansion reaction to accomplish 5-9 membered carbo- and heterocyclic systems. The availability of chiral ligands in the ring-expansion reaction of VCPs and their analogues has paved the way to realizing asymmetric synthetic transformations.

Abstract
The enantioselective catalytic cascade involving Tsuji-Trost allylation has provided a viable strategy for the construction of multiple asymmetric C-C and C-X centres and numerous methods have been developed around it for the synthesis of various vital scaffolds. The synthetic utility of this strategy was enhanced by replacing the customary allyl acetates with ethylene diacetates/dicarbonates, vinyl epoxides, vinyl oxetanes, vinyl ethylene carbonates, vinyl cyclopropanes, enynes, and dienes using transition-metal catalysis. One more milestone was achieved when metallaphotocatalysis provided the necessary platform for these cascades by using a cheaper metal. This review will provide a summary of these enantioselective catalytic cascades from 2015.

Abstract
An enantio- and diastereoselective Pd-catalysed (3 + 2) cycloaddition of bis(trifluoroethyl) 2-vinyl-cyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylate (VCP) with cyclic sulfamidate imine-derived 1-azadienes (SDAs) has been developed. These reactions provide highly functionalized spiroheterocycles having three contiguous stereocentres, including a tetrasubstituted carbon bearing an oxygen functionality. The two geminal trifluoroethyl ester moieties can be manipulated in a facially selective manner to afford more diversely decorated spirocycles with four contiguous stereocentres. In addition, diastereoselective reduction of the imine moiety can also afford a fourth stereocentre and exposes the important 1,2-amino alcohol functionality.

Abstract
A molybdenum-mediated reductive hydroamination of vinylcyclopropanes with nitroarenes has been developed. A broad range of substituted homoallylamines were prepared in good to excellent yields from readily available starting materials. No noble metal catalysts were used in this reaction, and Mo(CO)6 acted as both catalyst and reductant. This protocol provides an effective method for the selective synthesis of substituted homoallylamines from easily available nitroarenes.

Abstract
An unprecedented cycloaddition of vinyl diazo compounds with benzofuran-derived azadienes catalyzed by rarely independently used NaBArF4 has been established. Benzofuran-fused hydropyridines were constructed with excellent yields and high diastereoselectivity via a Na+-catalyzed inverse-electron-demand aza-Diels-Alder reaction. Notably, this transformation also features good compatibility with a one-pot protocol to deliver the spiro[benzofuran-cyclopentene] skeleton, as well as perfect atom economy and simple reaction conditions.

Abstract
We herein report regiodivergent ligand-controlled palladium-catalyzed asymmetric cycloaddition reactions between spirovinylcyclopropyl oxindoles and o-quinone methides. Specifically, by using the chiral P,P-ligand Segphos (L5), we obtained various spirooxindole-3,4-benzo[b]oxepanes in moderate to good yields with excellent enantioselectivities via [4+3] cycloaddition reactions. In contrast, reactions involving Trost's ligand (L7) showed different regio- and stereoselectivities, affording bispirooxindole heterocyclic compounds in good yields via [2+3] cycloaddition reactions.

Abstract
We have developed an efficient and mild enantioselective palladium-catalyzed (5+3) cycloaddition of vinylcyclopropanes and oxidopyrylium ylides generated in situ from benzopyranones, in the presence of a chiral PHOX ligand. These reactions afford various highly functionalized bridged oxa-[3.3.1]carbocycles with three stereogenic centers that are challenging to synthesize, in moderate to good yields and enantioselectivities.

Abstract
A simple and convenient cyclization of ortho-hydroxyphenyl-substituted para-quinone methides with benzofuran-2-one type active olefins via oxa-Michael/1,6-conjugated addition has been developed, which afforded an easy access to enriched functionalized chroman-spirobenzofuran-2-one scaffolds with good to excellent yields (up to 90%) and diastereoselectivities (up to >19 : 1 dr). This reaction provided an efficient method for constructing desired spirocyclic compounds combining both well-known heterocyclic pharmacophores chroman and benzofuran-2-one. Highly diastereoselective synthesis of spirocyclic compounds combining both well-known heterocyclic pharmacophores chroman and benzofuran-2-one.![]()

An alkylation/olefination
cascade of indolecarboxaldehydes and
phosphonate-functionalized donor–acceptor cyclopropanes affords
functionalized dihydrocarbazoles and cyclohepta[cd]indoles in formal (3 + 3) and (4 + 3) cycloadditions. A minor modification
to the reaction conditions also allows access to the fully aromatic
heterocyclic scaffolds by thermal loss of an electron-rich aryl moiety.

Abstract
Visible-light-induced cycloaddition reactions initiated via energy-transfer processes have recently evolved as powerful methods for the construction of strained cyclic molecules that are not easily accessed using known ground-state synthetic methods. Particularly, the reactions initiated by the excitation of aromatic rings provide an alternative solution to the direct transformations of aromatic feedstocks under the scheme of dearomatization. Vinylcyclopropanes (VCPs) are well-known reagents in radical clock experiments, working as a probe to detect transient radical intermediates. However, the synthetic applications in this regard still remain limited due to uncontrollable selectivities. Herein, we report visible-light-induced dearomatization of indole- or pyrrole-tethered VCPs, in which several competitive reaction pathways, including [5 + 2], [2 + 2], interrupted [5 + 2], and [5 + 4] cycloadditions, can be well regulated by engineering substrate structures and tuning reaction conditions. The reaction mechanism has been explored by combined experimental and computational investigations. These reactions provide a convenient method to synthesize structurally diverse polycyclic molecules with high efficiency and good selectivity.

Abstract
A Brønsted acid-catalyzed domino ring-opening cyclization transformation of donor-acceptor (D-A) cyclopropanes and 2-naphthols has been developed. This formal [3+2] cyclization reaction provided novel and efficient access to the naphthalene-fused cyclopentanes in the absence of any transition-metal catalysts or additives. This robust procedure was completed smoothly on a gram-scale to afford the corresponding product with comparable efficiency. Furthermore, the synthetic application of the prepared product has been demonstrated by its transformation into a variety of synthetically useful molecules.

Abstract
A palladium-catalyzed intermolecular cascade (4+3) cyclocondensation of salicylaldehydes and vinylcyclopropanes is reported. A key feature of the reaction is the use of a phosphonate group as an acceptor moiety on the cyclopropane, exploiting its propensity to undergo olefination with aldehydes. Subsequent O-allylation enabled the formation of a range of substituted benzoxepinsWith a novel chiral ligand, the products were obtained in generally good yield and with reasonable enantioselectivity.

Abstract
The first asymmetric synthesis of 3-methyleneindolines from alkynyl imines has been developed via a rhodium-catalyzed tandem process: regioselective alkynylation of the internal alkynes and subsequent intramolecular addition to the imines. The reaction proceeded with unconventional chemoselectivity and provided 3-methyleneindolines with good yields (up to 82% yield) and high enantioselectivities (up to 97% ee). Moreover, this transformation also features mild reaction conditions, perfect atom economy, and a broad substrate scope.

Abstract
In this review, transition metal-catalyzed methodologies and applications that exploit C-C bond cleavage of vinylcyclopropanes (VCPs) are summarized with a focus on cycloaddition and related addition reactions. Transition metals, including palladium, nickel, iron, ruthenium, rhodium, cobalt, and iridium, can catalyze the cleavage of C-C bonds in activated or nonactivated VCPs. Additionally, these bond-breaking reactions can occur as intra- or intermolecular processes. The properties of activated and nonactivated VCPs are discussed in the Introduction. Various transition metal-catalyzed cycloaddition and addition reactions involving the cleavage of C-C bonds in activated VCPs are then discussed in the next chapter. The transition metal-catalyzed cycloadditions involving the cleavage of C-C in nonactivated VCPs are summarized in the following chapter. Finally, challenges and potential opportunities are outlined in the last chapter.

Abstract
A highly diastereoselective synthesis of 3-methylenetetrahydropyrans via palladium-catalyzed oxa-[4 + 2] cycloaddition of 2-alkenylbenzothiazoles with allyl carbonates bearing a nucleophilic alcohol side chain is presented. This synthetic methodology tolerates a wide variety of 2-alkenylbenzothiazoles and afforded the desired 3-methylenetetrahydropyrans in good yields and excellent dr. In addition, further derivatizations resulted in new scaffolds, making them useful synthetic precursors.

Abstract
The palladium-catalyzed (3 + 2) cycloaddition reaction between vinylcyclopropanes (VCPs) bearing geminal EWG’s and imines represents a straightforward and flexible entry to polysubstituted pyrrolidine derivatives. In this paper, we demonstrate that using a synergistic catalysis approach, based on the combination of phosphoric acid and palladium catalysts, it is possible to engage for the first time N-aryl and N-benzyl imines in this cycloaddition reaction. A range of polysubstituted pyrrolidines is obtained with moderate to good yields and diastereoselectivities, using a simple palladium species (Pd(PPh3)4) and an archetypical phosphoric acid as catalyst combination. A two-step scheme which exploits the same palladium catalyst for two consecutive and mechanistically distinct reactions (the cycloaddition and a Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling) is also presented. This synergistic catalysis approach is well posited for the development of the enantioselective version of this reaction. A screening of common BINOL-derived chiral phosphoric acids as catalyst component identified a species giving the product with moderate, yet promising, enantioselectivity (64% ee).

Abstract
Sc(OTf)3-promoted [5 + 1] cycloaddition of vinylcyclopropanes with PhINTs is reported, enabling the regioselective preparation of a range of 1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine scaffolds under mild conditions. This represents the second example of a [5 + 1] nitrene-transfer cycloaddition and exhibits complementary substrate scope to the antecedent work, expanding the range of N-heterocycles accessible via this strategy.
