Abstract
Mercury, a widespread highly toxic environmental pollutant, poses significant risks to both human health and ecosystems. It commonly infiltrates the food chain, particularly through fish, and water resources via multiple pathways, leading to adverse impacts on human health and the environment. To monitor and keep track of mercury ion levels various methods traditionally have been employed. However, conventional detection techniques are often hindered by limitations. In response to challenges, nano-sensors, capitalizing on the distinctive properties of nanomaterials, emerge as a promising solution. This comprehensive review provides insight into the extensive spectrum of nano-sensor development for mercury detection. It encompasses various types of nanomaterials such as silver, gold, silica, magnetic, quantum dot, carbon dot, and electrochemical variants, elucidating their sensing mechanisms and fabrication. The aim of this review is to offer an in-depth exploration to researchers, technologists, and the scientific community, and understanding of the evolving landscape in nano-sensor development for mercury sensing. Ultimately, this review aims to encourage innovation in the pursuit of efficient and reliable solutions for mercury detection, thereby contributing to advancements in environmental protection and public health.

Abstract
Multiplex assay has emerged as a robust and versatile method for the simultaneous detection of multiple analytes in a single test. However, challenges in terms of poor accuracy and complexity remained. In this work, we developed a multiplex aptamer-based fluorescence assay using magnetism-encoded nanoparticles for the simultaneous detection of multiple pathogenic bacteria. The encapsulation of different amounts of Fe3O4 nanoparticles in zeolitic imidazolate framework-90 (ZIF-90) leads to the formation of Fe3O4@ZIF-90 (FZ) composites with distinct magnetism strengths. By functionalizing a specific aptamer on the surface of the FZ composites, target bacteria can be specifically and precisely separated from a mixed sample in a sequential manner. This property allows for the simultaneous quantitative analysis of multiple target bacteria by using a single-color fluorescence label, thereby resulting in minimal spectral crosstalk interference and improved accuracy. The successful determination of multiple bacteria in contaminated milk samples demonstrates the applicability of this multiplex assay in complex biological matrices. Compared to conventional multiplex fluorescence assays, this approach offers distinct advantages of simplicity, efficiency, and implementation. We believe that this study can provide valuable insights into the development of the multiplex assay while introducing a new method for the simultaneous detection of multiple bacteria.

JOURNAL OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS 2024; 462:132810. Abstract
The accurate monitoring of aflatoxin subtypes is vitally important for food safety. Herein, a dual-mode aptasensor with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and magnetic relaxation switching (MRS) signals is developed for the detection of aflatoxin B1, B2 and M1 (i.e. AFB1, AFB2 and AFM1). Au-Ag Janus NPs and Au-mushroom NPs are prepared and show intense and non-interfering SERS peaks without the additional modification of Raman molecules, and are utilized as SERS nanotags for the distinguishment of AFB1 and AFB2. Fe3O4@Au NPs functionalized by AFM1 aptamers are applied as MRS nanoprobes for the monitoring of AFM1. Aptamers engineered SERS nanotags and MRS nanoprobes are assembled, and show strong SERS performances and high transverse relaxation time (T2). AFB1, AFB2 and AFM1 induce the separation of SERS nanotags from the assemblies and the dispersion of Fe3O4@Au NPs, resulting in the decrease of SERS signals at 1278 cm-1 and 1000 cm-1 as well as the reduction of T2 values. The dual-mode but three kinds of detection signals don't interfere with each other and exhibit a significant linear relationship with the concentration of targets. This platform provides a high throughput monitoring strategy for the simultaneous analysis of different subtypes of mycotoxin.

A novel highly sensitive compilation-detachment fluorescence sensing strategy based on RNA-cleavage DNAzyme for MDA-MB-231 breast cancer biomarker determination. J Mater Chem B 2023; 11:1568-1579. Abstract
Herein, we designed a novel and highly sensitive fluorescence multicomponent detachable platform for MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cell detection as a model. The RNA cleavage DNAzyme was used as a central operator of the multicomponent probe through which compilation and induced detachment of probe was done. During the compilation step, the dsDNA-Sybr green 1 complexes on gold nanoparticles (GNP@dsDNA@SG1) were assembled. The intercalated Sybr green in the DNA structure has been used as an amplified signal generator on one site of DNAzyme and magnetic nanoparticles (MNP) act as a biological carrier and probe collector on the opposite side. The enzyme activator co-factor (MDA-MB-231 cell cytoplasmic protein) provokes the activation of the catalytic core of enzyme sequence in the DNAzyme molecule, followed by cleavage reaction in the substrate sequence and releasing GNP@ dsDNA@SG1 into the solution. The results indicate that the Sybr green emission fluorescence (520 nm) increases with the increment of MDA-MB-231 protein concentration in the linear dynamic range of 8.10 × 10-2 to 1.95 ng ml-1 (0.77 × 10-3-0.019 cell ml-1) with a detection limit (LOD) of 1/72 × 10-2 pg ml-1 under optimal conditions. The proposed immunosensor has great potential in developing ultrasensitive and rapid diagnostic platforms.
