Abstract
Dry eye disease (DED) is a kind of multifactorial ocular surface disease that displays ocular discomfort, visual disturbance, and tear film instability. Oxidative stress is a fundamental pathogenesis in DED. An imbalance between the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level and protective enzyme action will lead to oxidative stress, cell dysfunction, tear hyperosmolarity, and inflammation. Herein, a multifunctional cerium oxide nanozyme with high ocular surface retention property was designed to neutralize over-accumulated ROS and restore redox balance. Cerium oxide nanozymes were fabricated via branched polyethylenimine-graft-poly (ethylene glycol) nucleation and dispersion, followed by phenylboronic acid (PBA) functionalization (defined as Ce@PB). Due to the dynamic chemical bonding formation between the PBA segment and the cis-diol groups in the mucin layer of the tear film, Ce@PB nanozymes possess good adhesive capability to the ocular surface, thus extending the drug's retention time. On the other hand, Ce@PB nanozymes could mimic the cascade processes of superoxide dismutase and catalase to maintain intracellular redox balance. In vitro and in vivo studies suggest that such multifunctional nanozymes possess good biocompatibility and hemocompatibility. More importantly, Ce@PB nanozymes treatment in the animal model could repair corneal epithelial defect, increase the number of goblet cells and promote tear secretion, thus achieving an effective treatment for DED. STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE.

Abstract
Ocular diseases seriously affect patients' vision and life quality, with a global morbidity of over 43 million blindness. However, efficient drug delivery to treat ocular diseases, particularly intraocular disorders, remains a huge challenge due to multiple ocular barriers that significantly affect the ultimate therapeutic efficacy of drugs. Recent advances in nanocarrier technology offer a promising opportunity to overcome these barriers by providing enhanced penetration, increased retention, improved solubility, reduced toxicity, prolonged release, and targeted delivery of the loaded drug to the eyes. This review primarily provides an overview of the progress and contemporary applications of nanocarriers, mainly polymer- and lipid-based nanocarriers, in treating various eye diseases, highlighting their value in achieving efficient ocular drug delivery. Additionally, the review covers the ocular barriers and administration routes, as well as the prospective future developments and challenges in the field of nanocarriers for treating ocular diseases.

Abstract
AbstractOcular diseases are increasingly influencing people’s quality of life. Complicated inflammatory mechanisms involved in the pathogenic process of ocular diseases make inflammation-targeting treatment a potential therapeutic approach. The limited efficacy of conventional anti-inflammatory therapeutic strategies, caused by various objective factors, such as complex ocular biological barriers, and subjective factors, such as poor compliance, are promoting the development of new therapeutic methods. With the advantages of considerable tissue permeability, a controllable drug release rate, and selective tissue targeting ability, nanoparticles have successfully captured researchers’ attention and have become a research hotspot in treating ocular diseases. This review will focus on the advantages of nanosystems over traditional therapy, the anti-inflammation mechanisms of nanoparticles, and the anti-inflammatory applications of nanoparticles in different ocular diseases (ocular surface diseases, vitreoretinopathy, uveal diseases, glaucoma, and visual pathway diseases). Furthermore, by analyzing the current situation of nanotherapy and the challenges encountered, we hope to inspire new ideas and incentives for designing nanoparticles more consistent with human physiological characteristics to make progress based on conventional treatments. Overall, some progress has been made in nanoparticles for the treatment of ocular diseases, and nanoparticles have rather broad future clinical translation prospects.

Abstract
Bioadhesives have demonstrated their superiority in clinical applications as tissue adhesives, hemostats, and tissue sealants. Because of the intrinsic stickiness, the applications have been expanded to various areas, such as functional wound dressing, factor delivery vehicles, and even medical device fixation. While many literature works discussed the mechanism of bioadhesives, few of them specifically summarized the applications of bioadhesives. To fill in the blanks, this review covers recent research articles and focuses precisely on the applications of bioadhesives which can be generally classified as follows: 1) wound closure, 2) sealing leakage, and 3) immobilization, including those already in the clinic and those showing great potential in the clinic. It is expected that this article will provide a whole picture on bioadhesives' applications and lead to innovations in the application of bioadhesives in new fields.
