Abstract
In this study, we used a high-throughput computational screening approach to examine the potential of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) for capturing propane (C3H8) from different gas mixtures. We focused on Quantum MOF (QMOF) database composed of both synthesized and hypothetical MOFs and performed Grand Canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations to compute C3H8/N2/O2/Ar and C3H8/C2H6/CH4 mixture adsorption properties of MOFs. The separation of C3H8 from air mixture and the simultaneous separation of C3H8 and C2H6 from CH4 were studied for six different adsorption-based processes at various temperatures and pressures, including vacuum-swing adsorption (VSA), pressure-swing adsorption (PSA), vacuum-temperature swing adsorption (VTSA), and pressure-temperature swing adsorption (PTSA). The results of molecular simulations were used to evaluate the MOF adsorbents and the type of separation processes based on selectivity, working capacity, adsorbent performance score, and regenerability. Our results showed that VTSA is the most effective process since many MOFs offer high regenerability (>90%) combined with high C3H8 selectivity (>7 × 103) and high C2H6 + C3H8 selectivity (>100) for C3H8 capture from air and natural gas mixtures, respectively. Analysis of the top MOFs revealed that materials with narrow pores (<10 Å) and low porosities (<0.7), having aromatic ring linkers, alumina or zinc metal nodes, typically exhibit a superior C3H8 separation performance. The top MOFs were shown to outperform commercial zeolite, MFI for C3H8 capture from air, and several well-known MOFs for C3H8 capture from natural gas stream. These results will direct the experimental efforts to the most efficient C3H8 capture processes by providing key molecular insights into selecting the most useful adsorbents.

Abstract
An electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor for determining bisphenol A (BPA) was prepared based on titanium dioxide (TiO2) and Co-MOF. TiO2 is a co-reaction promoter that amplifies the ECL signal in the Ru(bpy)32+-trinpropylamine (TPrA) system. When the electrode is modified with Co-MOF the ECL signal is significantly enhanced. This is because Co-MOF can not only be used as a co-reaction accelerator but also as a carrier to adsorb more luminescent substances. Possible mechanisms for amplifying the original signal through the synergistic action of the two substances are investigated. The ECL strength decreases with increasing concentrations of BPA, and the amount of BPA can be determined by the change in ECL signal strength (ΔI). Under optimal experimental conditions, the linear range of BPA was 2.0 × 10-10 to 2.0 × 10-5 M, with a determination limit of 6.7 × 10-11 M (3σ/m). The relative standard deviation (RSD) of the signal for ten consecutive measurements was 1.5%. The sensor can be used to detect BPA in bottled samples with recoveries of 96 to 105%.

Abstract
Natural gas plays a crucial role in daily and industrial production, but the impurities contained in natural gas limit its further use. It is very important to develop adsorbents that can separate CH4 from multicomponent mixtures, but there are still many challenges and problems. Herein, a novel porous MOF {[Mn5(pbdia)2(CO3)(H2O)2] ↔ 5H2O ↔ 2DMF}n (pbdia = 2,2'-(5-carboxy-1,3-phenylene)bis(oxy) diterephthalic acid) was successfully synthesized based on a flexible pentacarboxylic acid ligand and a unique pentanuclear Mn5(COO)10CO3 cluster. The MOF reveals a 3D porous structure with 2D intersecting channels, which shows high C3H8, C2H6, and CO2 adsorption capacities and affinities over CH4. Moreover, the ideal adsorption solution theory selectivities of C3H8/CH4, C2H6/CH4, and CO2/CH4 can reach 263.0, 27.0, and 7.7, respectively, suggesting a potential for removing the low content of C3H8, C2H6, and CO2 from pipeline natural gas, which was further confirmed by breakthrough curves and GCMC simulations.

Abstract
Convenient and sensitive trace water indication is of great significance in various industrial processes. Here, a flower-like metal-organic framework Cu-FMM is assembled from ultrathin nanosheets that change its coordination structure reversibly with the capture and loss of water molecules, enabling sensitive trace water naked-eye colorimetric indication ability. A recognizable black/yellow color change can be observed when the dried Cu-FMM is exposed to the atmosphere or solvent with trace water as low as RH 3% and a water content of 0.25‰ (v/v) and further enables potential trace water imaging applications. The excellent accessibility of the multi-scale pore structure of Cu-FMM contributes to a fast response time of 3.8 s with good reversibility (>100 cycles), outperforming traditional coordination polymer humidity sensors. The present study provides new inspirations for the design of sensitive and applicable naked-eye water indicator materials that are applicable to in situ and continuous monitoring in industrial processes.

Abstract
Stable metal-organic frameworks, containing periodically arranged nanosized cages or pores and active Lewis acid-base sites, are considered ideal candidates for efficient heterogeneous catalysis. Herein, based on the light of reticular chemistry design principles, the ingenious assembly of two pyridine N-rich multifunctional triangular linkers, H3TBA [3,5-di (1h-tetrazol-5-yl) benzoic acid] and H2TZI [5-(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)isophthalic acid], with MnII formed PCP-33(Mn) and PCP-34(Mn), respectively. PCP-33(Mn) and PCP-34(Mn) are typical sod topology zeolitic metal-organic frameworks (ZMOFs) with hierarchical tetragonal micropores and metal organic polyhedral sodalite-like cages. The inner walls of these cages are modified by open metal sites MnII and Lewis acid-base sites of halide ions and N pyridine atoms. The characteristics of the cages' structures make two MOFs exhibit high surface area and a small window, which promote their outstanding gas capture ability (C2H2, 131.8 cm3 g-1; CO2, 77.9 cm3 g-1 at 273 K) and selective separation performance (C2H2/CH4, 226.2, CO2/CH4, 50.3 at 298 K), and are also suitable as catalytic reactors for metal/solvent-free chemical fixation of CO2 with epoxides to achieve high-efficiency CO2 conversion. Furthermore, they are greatly recyclable for several cycles while retaining their structural rigidity and catalytic activity.

Abstract
Acetylene (C2H2) separation from multicomponent mixtures is vitally important but industrially challenging for the collection of high-purity C2H2. To address this requirement, the reaction between the alkaline-earth Ca2+ ions with a dicarboxylate-diazolate linker, 4,6-di(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)isophthalic acid (H4dtzip), gave rise to a new metal-organic framework (MOF) material [Ca(dtzip)0.5H2O]·2H2O (1). The material presents unique regular tubular channels based on threefolded helical rod-like secondary building units with rich open metal sites and exposed organic hydrogen-bonding N/O acceptors that enhance the interactions with C2H2 molecules, endowing significant selectivity for C2H2 over C2H4 (5.4), C2H6 (5.6), CH4 (30.0), and CO2 (7.7) at 298 K and 100 kPa. Column breakthrough experiments confirmed the extraordinary C2H2 separation performance of the material with the separation time intervals in the range of 18-24 min g-1 for binary (C2H2-C2H4, C2H2-C2H6, C2H2-CO2, and C2H2-CH4) or ternary (C2H2-C2H4-C2H6 and C2H2-C2H4-CO2) gas mixtures under dynamic conditions.

Abstract
The energy crisis in the world is increasing rapidly owing to the shortage of fossil fuel reserves. Climate change and an increase in global warming necessitates a change in focus from petroleum-based fuels to renewable fuels such as biofuels. The remodeling of existing separation processes using various nanomaterials is of a growing interest to industrial separation methods. Recently, the design of membrane technologies has been the most focused research area concerning fermentation broth to enhance performance efficiency, while recovering those byproducts to be used as value added fuels. Specifically, the use of novel nano material membranes, which brings about a selective permeation of the byproducts, such as organic solvent, from the fermentation broth, positively affects the fermentation kinetics by eliminating the issue of product inhibition. In this review, which and how membrane-based technologies using novel materials can improve the separation performance of organic solvents is considered. In particular, technical approaches suggested in previous studies are discussed with the goal of emphasizing benefits and problems faced in order to direct research towards an optimized membrane separation performance for renewable fuel production on a commercial scale.

Abstract
For pure acetylene manufacturing and natural gas purification, the development of porous materials displaying highly selective C2H2/CH4 and CO2/CH4 separation is greatly important but remains a major challenge. In this work, a plausible strategy involving solvent-induced effects and using the flexibility of the ligand conformation to make two In(III) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) is developed, showing topological diversity and different stability. The X-shaped tetracarboxylic ligand H4TPTA ([1,1':3',1″-terphenyl]-4,4',4″,6'-tetracarboxylic acid) was selected to construct two new heteroid In MOFs, namely, {[CH3NH3][In(TPTA)]·2(NMF)} (MOF 1) and {[In2(TPTA)(OH)2]·2(H2O)·(DMF)} (MOF 2). MOF 1 is a (4, 4)-connected net showing a pts topology with a large channel that is not conducive to fine gas separation. By contrast, with the reduction of SBU from uninucleated In to an {In-OH-In}n chain, MOF 2 has a (4, 6)-connected net with the fsc topology with an ∼5 Å suitable micropore to confine matching small gas. The permanent porosity of MOF 2 leads to the preferential adsorption of C2H2 over CO2 with superior C2H2/CH4 (332.3) and CO2/CH4 (31.2) separation selectivities. Meanwhile, the cycling dynamic breakthrough experiments showed that the high-purity C2H2 (>99.8%) capture capacities of MOF 2 were >1.92 mmol g-1 from a binary C2H2/CH4 mixture, and its separation factor reached 10.

Abstract
Efficient separation of acetylene from a ternary acetylene-containing mixture is an important and vital task in petrochemical industry, which is difficult to achieve using a single material. Herein, a new Ca2+-based metal-organic framework (MOF) [Ca(dtztp)0.5(DMA)]·2H2O (1) was constructed using the N,O-donor ligand 2,5-di(2H-tetrazol-5-yl)terephthalic acid and the less-studied alkaline earth Ca2+ ions. The MOF shows a 3D honeycomb framework based on unique metal-carboxylate-azolate rod secondary building units. Owing to the presence of high-density organic hydrogen-bonding acceptors and open metal sites (OMSs), the activated MOF shows high adsorption capacity for C2H2 and selectivity for C2H2 over CO2, C2H4, C2H6, and CH4. Dynamic breakthrough experiments indicated the actual C2H2 separation potential of the MOF from binary (C2H2-C2H4 and C2H2-CO2) and ternary (C2H2-C2H4-CO2 and C2H2-C2H4-C2H6) mixtures. Simulations revealed that the synergistic interactions between the OMSs and N atoms in MOF and C2H2 molecules play an important role in the separation of C2H2.

Abstract
On the basis of different V-shaped ligands, three zirconium-organic frameworks (JLU-Liu45, Zr-SDBA, and Zr-OBBA) have been successfully constructed. By regulating spatial configuration and functional groups of organic ligands, these as-synthesized Zr-MOFs (MOF = metal-organic framework) display distinct structures and different light hydrocarbon adsorption/separation capabilities. JLU-Liu45, with a double-walled interpenetrated 3D primitive cubic (pcu) framework, exhibits good gas-adsorption capacity but not prominent selective separation ability. Through regulating sizes and torsion angles of the organic ligands, Zr-SDBA possesses a 2D square lattice (sql) network, while Zr-OBBA displays a non-interpenetrated 3D pcu framework. Furthermore, by regulating functional groups on the ligands, Zr-SDBA shows prominent C2H2 uptake (101.2 cm3·g-1) and the best C2H2/CH4 selectivity (230.5, 1:1) among the three Zr-MOFs, and Zr-OBBA shows a significant C3H8/CH4 selectivity (105.6, 1:1). This work demonstrates the feasibility of structural regulation for MOF materials in the light hydrocarbon adsorption/separation field.

Abstract
Efficient gas separation and purification play a vital role in the current advanced development of industry, and the application of MOF adsorbents in this area with highly technical materials shows obvious advantages. On the basis of reticular chemistry, the 4-c lvt MOF adsorbent [CuDTTA]·3DMF·CH3CN has been constructed (CuDTTA; H2DTTA = 2,5-bis(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)terephthalic acid). CuDTTA reveals a multiple-micropore system and high-density active sites decorated on the channel surfaces, which are conducive to its extraordinary selectivity of CO2/CH4 and C2H2/CH4 (29 and 166, 1:1). In combination with an analysis of Qst values, CuDTTA possesses the synergistic effect of size sieving and abundant functional sites, significantly improving the gas adsorption and separation performance. Meanwhile, the results also reveal that functional sites have a stronger binding affinity toward C2H2 with respect to CO2. Such a conclusion renders CuDTTA to be a promising adsorbent material for industrial applications.

Abstract
To help address efficient separation of C2Hn light hydrocarbons and C2H2/CO2 in the chemical industry, the self-assembly via an azolate-carboxylate ligand and Co(II) ion gave rise to a new porous MOF material, [Co(btzip)(H2btzip)]·2DMF·2H2O (1) (H2btzip = 4,6-bis(triazol-1-yl)isophthalic acid). In the MOF, the pores are modified by rich uncoordinated triazolyl Lewis basic N atoms and acidic -COOH groups, which strengthen interactions with C2Hn hydrocarbons and CO2 molecules, leading to high adsorption amounts for C2H2, C2H4, C2H6, and CO2 and remarkable separation efficiency for C2Hn-CH4, CO2-CH4, and C2H2-CO2 mixtures, as confirmed by breakthrough experiments on the realistic gas mixtures. The MOF also reveals outstanding selective adsorption ability for benzene/toluene, methanol/1-propanol, methanol/2-propanol, and 2-propanol/1-propanol isomers. Molecular simulations disclose the different adsorption sites in the MOF for various adsorbates.
