Abstract
Mercury, a highly toxic metal and pollutant, poses a significant risk to human health and the environment. This study describes the synthesis of a new nitrogen-doped heteroaromatic hyper-crosslinked polyamine (HCPA) via the polycondensation of 2,6-diaminopyrazine and tris(4-formylphenyl)amine for the efficient removal of mercury ions from aqueous solutions. The HCPA polymer was characterized by solid-state 13C-NMR and FT-IR spectroscopy. A powder X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analysis showed that the polymer was semicrystalline in nature and stable up to 500 °C. Adsorption isotherms indicated that mercury adsorption occurred via mono- and multilayer adsorption by HCPA, as depicted by the Langmuir, Freundlich, and Redlich-Peterson isotherm models, with a maximum adsorption capacity of qm = 333.3 mg/g. Adsorption kinetic models suggested that the adsorption process was fast and effective, reaching equilibrium within 20 min. Thermodynamics of the adsorption process revealed that it was endothermic and spontaneous in nature due to the positive ΔH0 of 48 kJ/mol and negative ΔG0 values of -4.5 kJ/mol at 293 K. Wastewater treatment revealed 98% removal of mercury indicating the selective nature of HCPA. Finally, HCPA exhibited excellent performance and regeneration up to three cycles, demonstrating its great potential as an adsorbent for environmental remediation applications.

Abstract
In recent years, various materials have been used to adsorb and remove perfluoroalkyl compounds from water. However, most of these materials have limited applications due to their high cost, complex synthesis, inadequate selectivity and sensitivity, and, even worse, the possibility of introducing secondary pollution. Here, under mild conditions, we prepared an inexpensive imidazolium chloride and nitrogen-rich polymer (TAGX-Cl) with a high cationic loading rate and a high yield (>82%). The adsorbent exhibits excellent pH tolerance (pH=1-9) and achieves nearly 99.9% removal of nine perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) within 120 min. Experimental data and theoretical simulations confirmed that synergistic electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonds, and P-π interactions control the adsorptive ability of TAGX-Cl. This work provides a practical strategy for PFCAs removal.

Abstract
Porous organic polymers (POPs) have demonstrated promising task-specific applications due to their structure designability and thus functionality. Herein, an unusual 3,4-polymerization on 1,2,5-trisubstituted pyrroles has been developed to give linear polypyrrole-3,4 in high efficiency, with Mn of 20000 and PDI of 1.7. This novel polymerization technique was applied to prepare a series of polypyrrole-based POPs (PY-POP-1-4), which exhibited high BET surface areas (up to 762 m2 g-1) with a meso-micro-supermicro hierarchically porous structure. Furthermore, PY-POPs were doped in the mixed matrix membranes based on the polysulfone matrix to enhance the gas permeability and gas pair selectivity, with H2/N2 selectivity up to 84.6 and CO2/CH4 and CO2/N2 selectivity up to 46.8 and 39.6.

Abstract
Modern global industrialization along with the ever-increasing growth of the population has resulted in continuous enhancement in the discharge and accumulation of various toxic and hazardous chemicals in the environment. These harmful pollutants, including toxic gases, inorganic heavy metal ions, anthropogenic waste, persistent organic pollutants, toxic dyes, pharmaceuticals, volatile organic compounds, etc., are destroying the ecological balance of the environment. Therefore, systematic monitoring and effective remediation of these toxic pollutants either by adsorptive removal or by catalytic degradation are of great significance. From this viewpoint, porous organic polymers (POPs), being two- or three-dimensional polymeric materials, constructed from small organic molecules connected with rigid covalent bonds have come forth as a promising platform toward various leading applications, especially for efficient environmental remediation. Their unique chemical and structural features including high stability, tunable pore functionalization, and large surface area have boosted the transformation of POPs into various macro-physical forms such as thick and thin-film membranes, which led to a new direction in advanced level pollutant removal, separation and catalytic degradation. In this review, our focus is to highlight the recent progress and achievements in the strategic design, synthesis, architectural-engineering and applications of POPs and their composite materials toward environmental remediation. Several strategies to improve the adsorption efficiency and catalytic degradation performance along with the in-depth interaction mechanism of POP-based materials have been systematically summarized. In addition, evolution of POPs from regular powder form application to rapid and more efficient size and chemo-selective, "real-time" applicable membrane-based application has been further highlighted. Finally, we put forward our perspective on the challenges and opportunities of these materials toward real-world implementation and future prospects in next generation remediation technology.

Abstract
The design of novel porous solid sorbents for carbon dioxide capture is critical in developing carbon capture and storage technology (CCS). We have synthesized a series of nitrogen-rich porous organic polymers (POPs) from crosslinking melamine and pyrrole monomers. The final polymer's nitrogen content was tuned by varying the melamine ratio compared to pyrrole. The resulting polymers were then pyrolyzed at 700 °C and 900 °C to produce high surface area nitrogen-doped porous carbons (NPCs) with different N/C ratios. The resulting NPCs showed good BET surface areas reaching 900 m2 g-1. Owing to the nitrogen-enriched skeleton and the micropore nature of the prepared NPCs, they exhibited CO2 uptake capacities as high as 60 cm3 g-1 at 273 K and 1 bar with significant CO2/N2 selectivity. The materials showed excellent and stable performance over five adsorption/desorption cycles in the dynamic separation of the ternary mixture of N2/CO2/H2O. The method developed in this work and the synthesized NPCs' performance towards CO2 capture highlight the unique properties of POPs as precursors for synthesizing nitrogen-doped porous carbons with a high nitrogen content and high yield.

Abstract
As an important role in life activities, it is necessary and important to study protein glycosylation. The pre-enrichment of N-glycopeptides is a significant step in glycoproteomics research. According to the inherent size, hydrophilicity and other properties of N-glycopeptides, affinity materials designed to match them will be able to separate N-glycopeptides from complex samples. In this work, we designed and prepared dual-hydrophilic hierarchical porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) nanospheres by metal-organic assembly (MOA) based template method and post-synthesis modification strategy. The hierarchical porous structure significantly improved the diffusion rate and binding sites for N-glycopeptide enrichment. Furthermore, the combination of hydrophilic MOFs and small molecules endowed the as-prepared MOFs nanospheres excellent hydrophilicity, which is conducive to the enrichment of N-glycopeptides based on hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC). Therefore, the nanospheres showed surprising enrichment ability for N-glycopeptides such as excellent selectivity (1/500, human serum immunoglobulin G/bovine serum albumin, m/m) and extremely low detective limitation (0.5 fmol). Meanwhile, 550 N-glycopeptides were identified from rat liver samples, proving its application potential in glycoproteomics research and providing design idea for porous affinity materials.

Abstract
This paper presents the preparation and characterization of composite membranes based on chitosan (Chi), sulfonated ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (sEPDM), and polypropylene (PPy), and designed to capture hydrogen sulfide. The Chi/sEPDM/PPy composite membranes were prepared through controlled evaporation of a toluene dispersion layer of Chi:sEPDM 1;1, w/w, deposited by immersion and under a slight vacuum (100 mmHg) on a PPy hollow fiber support. The composite membranes were characterized morphologically, structurally, and thermally, but also from the point of view of their performance in the process of hydrogen sulfide sequestration in an acidic media solution with metallic ion content (Cu2+, Cd2+, Pb2+, and/or Zn2+). The operational parameters of the pertraction were the pH, pM, matrix gas flow rate, and composition. The results of pertraction from synthetic gases mixture (nitrogen, methane, carbon dioxide) indicated an efficient removal of hydrogen sulfide through the prepared composite membranes, as well as its immobilization as sulfides. The sequestration and the recuperative separation, as sulfides from an acid medium, of the hydrogen sulfide reached up to 96%, decreasing in the order: CuS > PbS > CdS > ZnS.

Abstract
A novel cross-linked Copolymer (MXM) was synthesized by the polycondensation reaction of 3,6-Diaminocarbazole and piperazine with p-formaldehyde as a cross-linker. The Copolymer was fully characterized by solid 13C-NMR and FT-IR. The thermal stability of MXM was investigated by TGA and showed that the Copolymer was stable up to 300 °C. The synthesized polyamine was tested for the removal of iron (Fe2+), lead (Pb2+), and copper (Cu2+) ions from aqueous and industrial wastewater solutions. The effect of pH, concentration and time on the adsorption of iron (Fe2+), lead (Pb2+), and copper (Cu2+) ions was investigated. The adsorption of the studied ions from aqueous solutions onto the MXM polymer occurs following the Freundlich isotherm and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The intraparticle diffusion model showed that the adsorption mechanism is controlled by film diffusion. The regeneration of MXM showed practical reusability with a loss in capacity of 2–5% in the case of Fe2+ and Cu2+ ions. The molecular simulation investigations revealed similarities between experimental and theoretical calculations. Industrial wastewater treatment revealed the excellent capabilities and design of MXM to be a potential adsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions.

Abstract
The facile and environmentally friendly synthesis of porous organic polymers with designed polar functionalities decorating the interior frameworks as an excellent adsorbent for selective carbon dioxide capture and metal ion removal is a target worth pursuing for environmental applications. In this regard, two azo-linked porous organic polymers denoted man-Azo-P1 and man-Azo-P2 were synthesized in water by the azo-linking of 4,4'-diaminobiphenyl (benzidine) and 4,4'-methylenedianiline, respectively, with 1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene. The resulting polymers showed good BET surface areas of 290 and 78 m2 g-1 for man-Azo-P1 and man-Azo-P2, respectively. Due to the enriched core functionality of the azo (-N=N-) and hydroxyl groups along with the porous frameworks, man-Azo-P1 exhibited a good CO2 uptake capacity of 32 cm3 g-1 at 273 K and 1 bar, in addition to the remarkable removal of lead (Pd), chromium (Cr), arsenic (As), nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), and mercury (Hg) ions. This performance of the synthesized man-Azo-P1 and man-Azo-P2 in the dual application of CO2 capture and heavy metal ion removal highlights the unique properties of azo-linked POPs as excellent and stable sorbent materials for the current challenging environmental applications.

Abstract
Advanced battery materials are urgently desirable to meet the rapidly growing demand for portable electronics and power. The development of a high-energy-density anode is essential for the practical application of B3+ batteries as an alternative to Li-ion batteries. Herein, we have investigated the performance of B3+ on monolayer (MG), bilayer (BG), trilayer (TG), and tetralayer (TTG) graphene sheets using first-principles calculations. The findings reveal significant stabilization of the HOMO and the LUMO frontier orbitals of the graphene sheets upon adsorption of B3+ by shifting the energies from -5.085 and -2.242 eV in MG to -20.08 and -19.84 eV in 2B3+@TTG. Similarly, increasing the layers to tetralayer graphitic carbon B3+@TTG_asym and B3+@TTG_sym produced the most favorable and deeper van der Waals interactions. The cell voltages obtained were considerably enhanced, and B3+/B@TTG showed the highest cell voltage of 16.5 V. Our results suggest a novel avenue to engineer graphene anode performance by increasing the number of graphene layers.

Abstract
Microorganisms play an essential role in sulfide removal. Alkaline absorption solution facilitates the sulfide’s dissolution and oxidative degradation, so haloalkaliphile is a prospective source for environmental-friendly and cost-effective biodesulfurization. In this research, 484 sulfide oxidation genes were identified from the metagenomes of the soda-saline lakes and a haloalkaliphilic heterotrophic bacterium Halomonas salifodinae IM328 (=CGMCC 22183) was isolated from the same habitat as the host for expression of a representative sequence. The genetic manipulation was successfully achieved through the conjugation transformation method, and sulfide: quinone oxidoreductase gene (sqr) was expressed via pBBR1MCS derivative plasmid. Furthermore, a whole-cell catalyst system was developed by using the engineered strain that exhibited a higher rate of sulfide oxidation under the optimal alkaline pH of 9.0. The whole-cell catalyst could be recycled six times to maintain the sulfide oxidation rates from 41.451 to 80.216 µmol·min−1·g−1 dry cell mass. To summarize, a whole-cell catalyst system based on the engineered haloalkaliphilic bacterium is potentiated to be applied in the sulfide treatment at a reduced cost.

Abstract
The excessive use of fossil energy has caused the CO2 concentration in the atmosphere to increase year by year. MOFs are ideal CO2 adsorbents that can be used in CO2 capture due to their excellent characteristics. Studies of the structure-activity relationship between the small structural differences in MOFs and the CO2 adsorption capacities are helpful for the development of efficient MOF-based CO2 adsorbents. Therefore, a series of pillar-layered MOFs with similar structural and different functional groups were designed and synthesized. The CO2 adsorption tests were carried out at 273 K to explore the relationship between the small structural differences in MOFs caused by different functional groups and the CO2 adsorption capacities. Significantly, compound 6 which contains a pyridazinyl group has a 30.9% increase in CO2 adsorption capacity compared to compound 1 with no functionalized group.

Abstract
The unpleasant odor that appears in the industrial and adjacent waste processing areas is a permanent concern for the protection of the environment and, especially, for the quality of life. Among the many variants for removing substance traces, which give an unpleasant smell to the air, membrane-based methods or techniques are viable options. Their advantages consist of installation simplicity and scaling possibility, selectivity; moreover, the flows of odorous substances are direct, automation is complete by accessible operating parameters (pH, temperature, ionic strength), and the operation costs are low. The paper presents the process of obtaining membranes from cellulosic derivatives containing silver nanoparticles, using accessible raw materials (namely motion picture films from abandoned archives). The technique used for membrane preparation was the immersion precipitation for phase inversion of cellulosic polymer solutions in methylene chloride: methanol, 2:1 volume. The membranes obtained were morphologically and structurally characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and high resolution SEM (HR SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), Fourier transform infrared spectrometry (FTIR), thermal analysis (TG, ATD). Then, the membrane performance process (extraction efficiency and species flux) was determined using hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ethanethiol (C2H5SH) as target substances.
