Modification of Black Phosphorus Nanosheets with a Ni-Containing Carbon Layer as Efficient and Stable Hydrogen Production Electrocatalysts

Review on the Energy Transformation Application of Black Phosphorus and Its Composites

Black phosphorus (BP) is a unique two-dimensional material with excellent conductivity, and a widely tunable bandgap. In recent years, its application in the field of energy has attracted extensive attention, in terms of energy storage, due to its high theoretical specific capacity and excellent conductivity, black phosphorus is widely used as electrode material in battery and supercapacitors, while for energy generating, it has been also used as photocatalyst and electrocatalysts to split water and produce hydrogen. Black phosphorus demonstrates even better stability and catalytic performance through further construction, doping, or heterojunction. This review briefly summarizes the latest research progress of black phosphorus and its composites in energy preparation and storage, as well as ammonia nitrogen fixation, and also looks into the possible development directions in the future.

A sensitive electrochemical immunosensing interface for label-free detection of aflatoxin B1 by attachment of nanobody to MWCNTs-COOH@black phosphorene

A label-free electrochemical immunosensor has advantages of real-time and rapid detection, but it is weak in detection of small molecular toxins such as aflatoxin B₁ (AFB₁). The greatest obstacle to achieving this is that small molecules bound to a common immunosensing interface cannot interfere with electron transfer effectively and the detection signal is so weak. Therefore, a sensitive electrochemical immunosensing interface for small molecules is urgently needed. Here, we employed functionalized black phosphorene (BP) as electrode modification materials and anti-AFB₁ nanobody (Nb) as a biorecognition element to construct a very sensitive immunosensing interface towards small molecular AFB₁. The BP functionalized by carboxylic multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs-COOH) via P-C bonding behaved with a satisfactory stability and good catalytic performance for the ferricyanide/ferrocyanide probe, while the small-sized Nb showed good compatibility with the functionalized BP and also had less influence on electron transfer than monoclonal antibody (mAb). Expectedly, the as-prepared immunosensing interface was very sensitive to AFB₁ detection by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) in a redox probe system. Under optimized conditions, a linear range from 1.0 pM to 5.0 nM and an ultralow detection limit of 0.27 pM were obtained. Additionally, the fabricated immunosensor exhibited satisfactory stability, specificity, and reproducibility. The strategy proposed here provides a more reliable reference for label-free sensing of small molecules in food samples.

Expanding the Scope of 2D Black Phosphorus Catalysis to the Near-Infrared Light Initiated Free Radical Photopolymerization

In the drive toward the development of efficient and stable inorganic semiconductor materials with broadband solar absorption ability to induce various photochemical processes is a highly attractive research field. In this study, two-dimensional (2D) few-layer black phosphorus (BP) exfoliated in a solvent is utilized as photocatalyst to initiate the polymerization of various monomers under visible and near-IR (NIR) light irradiation. Upon the light exposure, few-layer BP generates excited electrons and holes, which undergo electron transfer reactions with the onium salts to form free radicals capable of initiating free radical polymerization. Among the onium salts tested, aryldiazonium salt was found to be the most efficient in the photopolymerization process owing to its favorable reduction potential with the conduction edge potential of BP. The presented strategy also provides the possibility for the in situ preparation of BP-polymer composite materials.
