Double Confined MoO2/Sn/NC@NC Nanotubes: Solid-Liquid Synthesis, Conformal Transformation, and Excellent Lithium-Ion Storage

Integrating highly active graphite nanosheets into microspheres for enhanced lithium storage properties of silicon

Integrating silicon (Si) and graphitic carbon into micron-sized composites by spray-drying holds great potential in developing advanced anodes for high-energy-density lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, common graphite particles as graphitic carbon are always too large in three-dimensional size, resulting in inhomogeneous hybridization with nanosized Si (NSi); in addition, the rate capability of graphite is poor owing to sluggish intercalation kinetics. Herein, we integrated graphite nanosheets (GNs) with NSi to prepare porous NSi-GN-C microspheres by spray-drying and subsequent calcination with the assistance of glucose. Two-dimensional GNs with average thickness of ∼80 nm demonstrate superior lithium storage capacity, high conductivity, and flexibility, which could improve the electronic transfer kinetics and structural stability. Moreover, the porous structure buffers the volume expansion of Si during the lithiation process. The obtained NSi-GN-C microspheres manifest excellent electrochemical performance, including high initial coulombic efficiency of 85.9%, excellent rate capability of 94.4% capacity retention after 50 repeated high-rate tests, and good cyclic performance for 500 cycles at 1.0 A g^-1. Kinetic analysis and in situ impedance spectra reveal dominant pseudocapacitive behavior with rapid and stable Li⁺ insertion/extraction processes. Ex situ morphology characterization demonstrates the ultra-stable integrated structure of the NSi-GN-C. The highly active GN demonstrates great potential to improve the lithium storage properties of Si, which provides new opportunity for constructing high-performance anodes for LIBs.

Synthesis of MnO-Sn cubes embedding in nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers with high lithium-ion storage performance

In this paper, a carbon nanofiber (CNF) hybrid nanomaterial composed of MnO-Sn cubes embedding in nitrogen-doped CNF (MnO-Sn@CNF) is synthesized through electrospinning and post-thermal reduction processes. It exhibits good electrochemical lithium-ion storage performance as the anode, such as high reversible capacity, outstanding cycle performance (754 mAh g^-1at 1 A g^-1after 1000 cycles), and good rate capability (447 mAh g^-1at 5 A g^-1). The excellent electrochemical properties are derived from a unique nanostructure design. MnO-Sn@CNF has a three-dimensional conductive network with a stable core-shell structure, which improves the electrical conductivity and mechanical stability of the materials. In addition, the mesopores on the surface of carbon fibers can shorten the diffusion distance of lithium ions and promote the combination of active sites of the material with lithium ions. The internal MnO and Sn form a heterostructure, which enhances the stability of the physical structure of the electrode material. This material design method provides a reference strategy for the development of high-performance lithium-ion batteries anode.

Bismuth Nanoparticles Confined in Carbonaceous Nanospheres as Anodes for High-Performance Potassium-Ion Batteries

Bismuth (Bi) has been considered as a promising alloying-type anode for potassium-ion batteries (PIBs), owing to its high theoretical capacity and suitable working voltage plateaus. However, Bi suffers from dramatic volume fluctuation and significant pulverization during the discharge/charge processes, resulting in fast capacity decay. Herein, we synthesize Bi nanoparticles confined in carbonaceous nanospheres (denoted as Bi@C) for PIBs by first utilizing BiOCl nanoflakes as a hard template and a Bi precursor. The construction of the loose structure buffers the mechanical stresses resulting from the volume expansion of Bi during the alloying reaction and avoids the fracture of the electrode structure, thus improving the cycling performance. Moreover, the carbonaceous layers increase the electronic conductivity and disperse the Bi nanoparticles, enhancing the charge transportation and ionic diffusion, which further promotes the rate capability of Bi@C. It exhibits a superior capacity (389 mAh g^-1 at 100 mA g^-1 after 100 cycles), excellent cycling stability (206 mAh g^-1 at 500 mA g^-1 over 1000 cycles), and an improved rate capability (182 mAh g^-1 at 2.0 A g^-1). This work provides a new structuring strategy in alloying materials for boosting reversible and stable potassium-ion storage.
