Abstract
This work presents an integrated photoelectrochemical, impedance and colorimetric biosensing platform for flexible detection of cancer markers based on the targeted response by combining liposome amplification strategies and target-induced non-in situ formation of electronic barriers as the signal transduction modality on carbon-modified CdS photoanodes. Inspired by game theory, the carbon layer modified CdS hyperbranched structure with low impedance and high photocurrent response was firstly obtained by surface modification of CdS nanomaterials. Through a liposome-mediated enzymatic reaction amplification strategy, a large number of organic electron barriers were formed by a biocatalytic precipitation (BCP) reaction triggered by horseradish peroxidase released from cleaved liposomes after the introduction of the target molecule, thereby increasing the impedance characteristics of the photoanode as well as attenuating the photocurrent. The BCP reaction in the microplate was accompanied by a significant color change, which opened up a new window for point-of-care testing. Taking carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) as a proof of concept, the multi-signal output sensing platform showed a satisfactory sensitive response to CEA with an optimal linear range of 20 pg mL-1-100 ng mL-1. The detection limit was as low as 8.4 pg mL-1. Meanwhile, with the assistance of a portable smartphone and a miniature electrochemical workstation, the electrical signal obtained was synchronized with the colorimetric signal to correct the actual target concentration in the sample, further reducing the occurrence of false reports. Importantly, this protocol provides a new idea for the sensitive detection of cancer markers and the construction of a multi-signal output platform.

Abstract
Photoelectrochemical (PEC) hydrogen production is an emerging technology that uses renewable solar light aimed to establish a sustainable carbon-neutral society. The barriers to commercialization are low efficiency and high cost. To date, researchers have focused on materials and systems. However, recent studies have been conducted to utilize thermal effects in PEC hydrogen production. This Review provides a fresh perspective to utilize the thermal effects for PEC performance enhancement while delineating the underlying principles and equations associated with efficiency. The fundamentals of the thermal effect on the PEC system are summarized from various perspectives: kinetics, thermodynamics, and empirical equations. Based on this, materials are classified as plasmonic metals, quantum dot-based semiconductors, and photothermal organic materials, which have an inherent response to photothermal irradiation. Finally, the economic viability and challenges of these strategies for PEC are explained, which can pave the way for the future progress in the field.

Abstract
Modulating the electronic structure of Cadmium sulfide (CdS) by non-metallic elements to produce solid-solution photocatalysts serves as a potential route to improve its performance of photocatalytic hydrogen (H2) evolution. However, exploring an effective synthetic route of CdS-based solid solution is still a great challenge. Herein, the CdS1-xSex solid-solution nanocrystals were successfully synthesized by an accessible photoinduced self-transformation route, including the direct formation of dispersible CdS1-x(SeS)x and the in situ self-transformation of selenosulfide ((SeS)2-) to Se2- by photoexcited electrons. The prepared CdS1-xSex solid-solution photocatalysts possess a small crystallite size of ca. 5 nm and their bandgaps can be easily tuned in a wide range of 1.84-2.28 eV by tailoring the mole ratio of Se/S. The resultant CdS0.90Se0.10 solid-solution photocatalyst realizes the highest H2-production tempo of 94.6 μmol·h-1, which is 1.6 folds higher than that of CdS. The experimental and theoretical studies supported that the incorporation of Se atoms could not only narrow the bandgap value to reinforce visible-light absorption, but also tune its electronic structure to optimize interfacial H2-evolution dynamics, thus achieving an efficient photocatalytic H2-production rate of the dispersible CdS1-xSex solid solution. This study may deliver advanced inspirations for optimizing the electronic structure of photocatalysts towards sustainable H2 production.
