Abstract
Electrocatalytic high-throughput seawater electrolysis for hydrogen production is a promising green energy technology that offers possibilities for environmental and energy sustainability. However, large-scale application is limited by the complex composition of seawater, high concentration of Cl- leading to competing reaction, and severe corrosion of electrode materials. In recent years, extensive research has been conducted to address these challenges. Metal nitrides (MNs) with excellent chemical stability and catalytic properties have emerged as ideal electrocatalyst candidates. This review presents the electrode reactions and basic parameters of the seawater splitting process, and summarizes the types and selection principles of conductive substrates with critical analysis of the design principles for seawater electrocatalysts. The focus is on discussing the properties, synthesis, and design strategies of MN-based electrocatalysts. Finally, we provide an outlook for the future development of MNs in the high-throughput seawater electrolysis field and highlight key issues that require further research and optimization.

Abstract
In the context of hydrogen production through water electrolysis, the development of efficient and stable electrocatalysts is of paramount importance. However, the creation of cost-effective electrocatalysts poses a significant challenge. In this study, a P and Nb co-doped NiFe2O4 nanosheet is designed and grown on Fe foam (referred to as P, Nb-NiFe2O4/FF). The P, Nb-NiFe2O4/FF exhibits a distinctive crystalline/amorphous heterostructure, and the co-doping of P and Nb in the material leads to the exposure of additional catalytic active sites, optimization of the electronic structure, and enhancement of charge conductivity. Additionally, the P, Nb-NiFe2O4/FF possesses a superhydrophilic surface for the enhancement of charge/mass transfer at interface and a superaerophobic surface, facilitating the efficient release of gas. The P, Nb-NiFe2O4/FF demonstrates remarkable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activities, achieving overpotential as low as 247 mV and 127 mV, respectively, to attain the current density response of 100 mA cm-2. Based on the high bifunctional activities, the P, Nb-NiFe2O4/FF requires only a working voltage of 1.56 V to obtain the current density of 10 mA cm-2 in overall water splitting. Furthermore, the overall water splitting device of P, Nb-NiFe2O4/FF is integrated with a commercial solar cell to simulate a solar-powered water splitting system, resulting in as superior solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency of 15.11%.

Abstract
Metal-based catalysts on biomass carbon substrates can combine their respective advantages of composition and structure to improve the catalytic performance. Herein, NiS supported on grapefruit peel derived array porous carbon (APC) was obtained via a carbonization process without emission of toxic gases. The natural S source from grapefruit peel reacted with nickel salt solution. The gradient distribution of NiS and S on the APC substrates can be altered by the concentration of impregnating salt solution. Theoretical calculations showed that the S gradient distribution on APC could tune the electronic structure and optimize the adsorption energies of the intermediates. NiS was firmly anchored on the porous carbon framework, resulting in enhanced high intrinsic activity, exposure of more active sites, and accelerated mass transfer. The active mass density was proposed to build a relationship between active metal content and electrolyte diffusion capacity for the evaluation of catalytic properties.

Abstract
Rational design and construction of cost–effective electrocatalysts for efficient hydrogen production has attracted extensive research attention worldwide. Herein, we report the construction of a transition metal selenide/carbon composite catalyst featuring uniform NiSe nanoparticles anchored to single Ni atom doped porous carbon structure (NiSe/Ni–N–C) via a facile one–pot pyrolysis of low–cost solid mixtures. NiSe/Ni–N–C exhibits remarkable catalytic performance towards hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in 1.0 M KOH, requiring a low overpotential of 146 mV to reach a current density of 10 mA cm−2. The unique carbon layer encapsulation derived from the enwrapping of fluid catalytic cracking slurry further renders NiSe/Ni–N–C excellent for long–term durability in electrolyte corrosion and nanostructure aggregation. This work paves the way for the design and synthesis of highly efficient composite HER electrocatalysts.
