Confinement Matters: Stabilization of CdS Nanoparticles inside a Postmodified MOF toward Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Metal-Organic Framework-Based Hetero-Phase Nanostructure Photocatalysts with Molecular-Scale Tunable Energy Levels

As an effective method to modulate the physicochemical properties of materials, crystal phase engineering, especially hetero-phase, plays an important role in developing high-performance photocatalysts. However, it is still a huge challenge but significant to construct porous hetero-phase nanostructures with adjustable band structures. As a kind of unique porous crystalline materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) might be the appropriate candidate, but the MOF-based hetero-phase is rarely reported. Herein, we developed a secondary building unit (SBU) regulating strategy to prepare two crystal phases of Ti-MOFs constructed by titanium and 1,4-dicarboxybenzene, i.e., COK and MIL-125. Besides, COK/MIL-125 hetero-phase was further constructed. In the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction, COK/MIL-125 possessed the highest H2 yield compared to COK and MIL-125, ascribing to the Z-Scheme homojunction at hetero-phase interface. Furthermore, by decorating with amino groups (i.e., NH2-COK/NH2-MIL-125), the light absorbing capacity was broadened to visible-light region, and the visible-light-driven H2 yield was greatly improved. Briefly, the MOF-based hetero-phase possesses periodic channel structures and molecularly adjustable band structures, which is scarce in traditional organic or inorganic materials. As a proof of concept, our work not only highlights the development of MOF-based hetero-phase nanostructures, but also paves a novel avenue for designing high-performance photocatalysts.

Efficient metal-organic framework-based dual co-catalysts system assist CdS for hydrogen production from photolysis of water

Metal-organic framework materials (MOFs) and their derivatives have been widely used in the field of photocatalytic water decomposition for hydrogen production. In this study, NiS/CdS was initially acquired and subsequently combined with DUT-67 via ultrasound to create a unique ternary photocatalyst NiS/CdS@DUT-67. The rate of hydrogen production for NiS/CdS@DUT-67 is 9618 μmol·g NiS/CdS-1·h-1 for NiS/CdS@DUT-67, which is 32 times and 2.5 times higher than that for CdS and NiS/CdS, respectively. Of particular interest is the fact that even after 50 h of photocatalysis, the hydrogen production rate did not show a significant decrease, demonstrating its excellent stability compared to CdS and NiS/CdS. In this ternary system, NiS and DUT-67 function as dual co-catalysts for CdS, collaborating to enhance charge separation during the photocatalysis. This study presents a clear demonstration of the advantages of utilizing metal-organic framework derivatives (MOF-derivatives) cophotocatalysts and their synergistic effect, resulting in improved photocatalytic activity and stability of semiconductors. This innovative approach provides a new perspective on constructing photocatalytic materials with exceptional performance.

Superior Electrochemical Water Splitting and Energy-Storage Performances of In Situ Fabricated Charge-Separated Metal Organophosphonate Single Crystals

The design and exploration of advanced materials as a durable multifunctional electrocatalyst toward sustainable energy generation and storage development is the most perdurable challenge in the domain of renewable energy research. Herein, a facile in situ solvothermal approach has been adopted to prepare a methylviologen-regulated crystalline metal phosphonate compound, [C12H14N2][Ni(C11H11N2)(H2hedp)2]2•6H2O (NIT1), (H4hedp = 1-hydroxyethane 1,1-diphosphonic acid) and well characterized by several techniques. The as-prepared NIT1 displays excellent bifunctional electrocatalytic activity with dynamic stability toward oxygen evolution reaction (η10 = 288 mV) and hydrogen evolution reaction (η10 = 228 mV) in alkaline (1.0 M KOH) and acidic mediums (0.5 M H2SO4), respectively. Such a low overpotential and Tafel slope (68 mV/dec for OER; 56 mV/dec for HER) along with long-term durability up to 20 h of NIT1 make it superior to benchmark the electrocatalyst and various nonprecious metal-based catalysts under similar experimental condition. Further, the electrochemical supercapacitor measurements (in three-electrode system) reveal that the NIT1 electrode possesses much higher specific capacity of 187.6 C g-1 at a current density of 2 A g-1 (272 C g-1 at 5 mV s-1) with capacitance retention of 75.2% over 10,000 cycles at 14 A g-1 (Coulombic efficiency > 99%) in 6 M KOH electrolyte medium. Finally for a practical application, an asymmetric supercapacitor device (coin cell) is assembled by NIT1 material. The as-fabricated device delivers the maximum energy density of 39.4 Wh kg-1 at a power density of 450 W kg-1 and achieves a wide voltage window of 1.80 V. Notably, the device endures a remarkable cycle performance with cyclic retention of 92% (Coulombic efficiency > 99%) even after 14,000 charge/discharge cycles at 10 A g-1. Nevertheless, the extraordinary electrochemical activities toward OER and HER as well as the high-performance device fabrication for LED illumination of such a noble metal-free lower-dimensional charge-transfer compound are truly path breaking and would be promising for the development of advanced multifunctional materials.

Silver Nanoparticle-Functionalized Postsynthetically Modified Thiol MOF UiO-66-NH-SH for Efficient CO2 Fixation

Thiols are essential functional groups imparting unique properties, such as reactivity and selectivity, to many vital enzymes and biomolecules. The integration of electronically soft thiol groups within metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) yields elevated reactivity and a pronounced affinity for soft metal ions. However, the scarcity of thiol-based ligands and synthetic challenges hinder the advancement of thiol-based MOFs. To bypass the difficulties of synthesizing thiol MOFs by a direct reaction between thiol-based ligands and corresponding metal salts, postsynthetic modification (PSM) of MOFs is an efficient strategy to introduce thiol functionality. Herein, we have introduced Ag nanoparticles in postsynthetically modified thiol MOFs UiO-66-NH-SH (1) (synthesized by reaction between UiO-66-NH2 and thioglycolic acid) and UiO-66-NH-SH (2) (synthesized by reaction between UiO-66-NH2 and 3-mercaptopropionic acid) to synthesize a series of heterogeneous catalysts for CO2 fixation. Catalysts Cat 1-2 and Cat 3 - 4 were synthesized from UiO-66-NH-SH (1) and UiO-66-NH-SH (2), respectively, by using varying concentrations of silver (AgNO3). Catalyst Ag@UiO-66-NH-SH (1) (Ag = 3.45%; namely Cat 2) shows the highest efficiency for the catalytic conversion of propargylic alcohol and terminal epoxide to the corresponding cyclic carbonates. Finally, a rationalized reaction mechanism is proposed by correlating our results with the current literature. This work presents a viable strategy to utilize the thiol functionality of MOFs (avoiding the complexities associated with synthesizing thiol MOFs directly from thiol ligands) as a platform for introducing catalytically active metal centers and applying them as a heterogeneous catalyst for CO2 fixation reactions.

Manipulation of interfacial charge dynamics for metal-organic frameworks toward advanced photocatalytic applications

Compared to other known materials, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have the highest surface area and the lowest densities; as a result, MOFs are advantageous in numerous technological applications, especially in the area of photocatalysis. Photocatalysis shows tantalizing potential to fulfill global energy demands, reduce greenhouse effects, and resolve environmental contamination problems. To exploit highly active photocatalysts, it is important to determine the fate of photoexcited charge carriers and identify the most decisive charge transfer pathway. Methods to modulate charge dynamics and manipulate carrier behaviors may pave a new avenue for the intelligent design of MOF-based photocatalysts for widespread applications. By summarizing the recent developments in the modulation of interfacial charge dynamics for MOF-based photocatalysts, this minireview can deliver inspiring insights to help researchers harness the merits of MOFs and create versatile photocatalytic systems.

Boosting hydrogen production of a MOF-based multicomponent photocatalyst with clean interface via facile one-pot electrosynthesis

Hydrogen production from photocatalysis via the usage of multicomponent photocatalysts represents a promising pathway for carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, owing to their structural advantages in dealing with the three crucial processes in photocatalysis, namely, light harvesting, charge transfer, and surface redox reactions. We demonstrate the fabrication of a MOF-based multicomponent photocatalyst, denoted as semiconductor/MOF/cocatalyst, by a one-pot electrochemical synthetic route. The as-fabricated multicomponent photocatalyst has a clean interface among the components, leading to close connections that contribute to high-quality heterojunction and facilitate photogenerated charge transfer and separation, thereby the efficient hydrogen evolution. The hydrogen production rate of the resultant ZrO2 /Zr-MOF/Pt is 1327 μmol ⋅ g-1  ⋅ h-1 , which is much higher than that of ZrO2 /Zr-MOF (15 μmol ⋅ g-1  ⋅ h-1 ) and pure Zr-MOF (10.1 μmol ⋅ g-1  ⋅ h-1 ), as well as the photodeposited-Pt products ZrO2 /Zr-MOF/PtPD (287 μmol ⋅ g-1  ⋅ h-1 ) and Zr-MOF/PtPD (192 μmol ⋅ g-1  ⋅ h-1 ) obtained by the step-wise synthetic approach. The work gives a good inspiration for the rational design and construction of MOF-based multicomponent photocatalysts through the one-pot electrosynthesis.

Activating two-dimensional semiconductors for photocatalysis: a cross-dimensional strategy

The emerging two-dimensional (2D) semiconductors substantially extend materials bases for versatile applications such as semiconductor photocatalysis demanding semiconductive matrices and large surface areas. The dimensionality, while endowing 2D semiconductors the unique properties to host photocatalytic functionality of pollutant removal and hydrogen evolution, hurdles the activation paths to form heterogenous photocatalysts where the photochemical processes are normally superior over these on the mono-compositional counterparts. In this perspective, we present a cross-dimensional strategy to employ thenD (n= 0-2) clusters or nanomaterials as activation partners to boost the photocatalytic activities of the 2D semiconductors. The formation principles of heterogenous photocatalysts are illustrated specifically for the 2D matrices, followed by selection criteria of them among the vast 2D database. The computer investigations are illustrated in the density functional theory route and machine learning benefitted from the vast samples in the 2D library. Synthetic realizations and characterizations of the 2D heterogenous systems are introduced with an emphasis on chemical methods and advanced techniques to understand materials and mechanistic studies. The perspective outlooks cross-dimensional activation strategies of the 2D materials for other applications such as CO2removal, and materials matrices in other dimensions which may inspire incoming research within these fields.

Enhanced Photoinduced Carrier Separation in Fe-MOF-525/CdS for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution: Improved Catalytic Dynamics with Specific Active Sites

Single-atom metal-anchored porphyrin-based metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have shown excellent light absorption, catalytic sites, and high stability during photocatalytic reactions, while there are still challenges for facile assembly with quantum dots to enhance catalytic dynamics. Herein, a kind of Fe single atom-doped MOF material (Fe-MOF-525) was ball milled with CdS in a proper ratio through Fe-N4 and Fe-N-C bonding, which showed the enhanced photoinduced carrier separation ability. As a result, extended light absorption ranges of CdS/Fe-MOF-5252.3 induced the promotion of the photocatalytic hydrogen (H2) value (3638.6 μmol g-1 h-1), which was 7.2 and 2.3 times higher than those of Fe-MOF-525 and CdS. In this work, the facile synthetic technique, specific active sites, and enhanced catalytic dynamics in the composite highlight the future research on MOF-based heterojunctions and their potential photocatalysis applications..

Modular Gating of Ion Transport by Postsynthetic Charge Transfer Complexation in a Metal-Organic Framework

Nature's design of biological ion channels that demonstrates efficient gating and selectivity brings to light a very promising model to mimic and design for achieving selective and tunable ion transport. Functionalized nanopores that permit modulation of the pore wall charges are a compelling approach to gain control over the ion transport mechanism through the pores. This makes way for employing a noncovalent supramolecular approach for attaining charge reversal of the MOF pore walls using donor-acceptor pairs that can demonstrate strong charge transfer interactions. Herein, robust Zr4+-based mesoporous MOF-808 was postsynthetically modified into an anion-selective nanochannel (MOF-808-MV) by modification with dicationic viologen-based motifs. Charge modulation and even reversal of the MOF-808-MV pore walls were then explored taking advantage of strong charge transfer interactions between the grafted dicationic viologen acceptor moieties and anionic, π-electron-rich donor guest molecules such as pyranine (PYR) and tetrathiafulvalene tetrabenzoic acid (TTF-TA). Tunability of the MOF pore charge from positive to neutral to negative was achieved via simple methodologies such as diffusion control in case of guest molecule like PYR and by pH modulation for pH-responsive guest like TTF-TA. This results in a concomitant modulation in the selectivity of the nanochannel, rendering it from anion-selective to ambipolar to cation-selective. Furthermore, as a real-time application of this ion channel, Na+ ion conductivity (σ = 3.5 × 10-5 S cm-1) was studied at ambient temperature.

Pore-Confined π-Chromophoric Tetracene as a Visible Light Harvester toward MOF-Based Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction in Water

Integrating photoactive π-chromophoric guest molecules inside the MOF nanopore can result in the emergence of light-responsive features, which in turn can be utilized for developing photoactive materials with inherent properties of MOF. Herein, we report the confining of π-chromophoric tetracene (TET) molecules inside the nanospace of postmodified Zr-MOF-808 (Zr-MOF) with MBA molecules (MBA = 2-(5'-methyl-[2,2'-bipyridine]-5-yl)acetic acid) for effectively utilizing its light-harvesting properties toward photocatalytic CO2 reduction. The confinement of the TET molecules as a photosensitizer and the covalent grafting of a catalytically active [Re(MBA)(CO)3Cl] complex, postsynthetically, result in a single integrated catalytic system named Zr-MBA-TET-Re-MOF. Photoreduction of CO2 over Zr-MBA-TET-Re-MOF showed the evolution of 805 μmol g-1 CO with 99.9% selectivity after 10 h of continuous visible light irradiation in water without any additional sacrificial electron donor and having the apparent quantum efficiency of 1.3%. In addition, the catalyst demonstrated an appreciable activity even under direct sunlight irradiation in aqueous medium with a maximum production of 362.7 μmol g-1 CO, thereby mimicking artificial photosynthesis. Moreover, electron transfer from TET to the catalytic center was supported by the formation of photoinduced TET radical cation, as inferred from in situ UV-vis spectra, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis, and transient absorption (TA) studies. Additionally, the in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) measurements support that the photoreduction of CO2 to CO proceeds via *COOH intermediate formation. The close proximity of the light-harvesting molecule and catalytic center facilitated facile electron transfer from the photosensitizer to the catalyst during the CO2 reduction.

A highly efficient synthetic strategy for de novo NP encapsulation into metal-organic frameworks: enabling further modulated control of catalytic properties

De novo encapsulation is a prevalent method to prepare composite materials where the structure-tunable metal nanoparticles (NPs) are holistically coated with metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). This method has been demonstrated to have promise in various fields but the extensive application of this approach is still challenging. This study proposed, for the first time, leveraging a specific surface-energy-dominated (SED) mechanism to achieve a highly efficient synthetic strategy for de novo NP encapsulation. The generality of this strategy is proved in applying to various MOFs, reaction conditions and the use of capping agents. By applying the strategy, Pd NPs with different morphologies are encapsulated in UiO-67, which is prone to self-assembly without coating, and an interesting enhancement is investigated in the selective semihydrogenation of alkynes on different Pd surfaces. These results demonstrate that the control of surface energy is a feasible method for efficient NP encapsulation which sheds light on the rational design of MOF-based composites for future applications.

Fundamental Perspectives on the Electrochemical Water Applications of Metal-Organic Frameworks

HIGHLIGHTS

The recent development and implementation of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) and MOF-based materials in electrochemical water applications are reviewed. The critical factors that affect the performances of MOFs in the electrochemical reactions, sensing, and separations are highlighted. Advanced tools, such as pair distribution function analysis, are playing critical roles in unraveling the functioning mechanisms, including local structures and nanoconfined interactions. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), a family of highly porous materials possessing huge surface areas and feasible chemical tunability, are emerging as critical functional materials to solve the growing challenges associated with energy-water systems, such as water scarcity issues. In this contribution, the roles of MOFs are highlighted in electrochemical-based water applications (i.e., reactions, sensing, and separations), where MOF-based functional materials exhibit outstanding performances in detecting/removing pollutants, recovering resources, and harvesting energies from different water sources. Compared with the pristine MOFs, the efficiency and/or selectivity can be further enhanced via rational structural modulation of MOFs (e.g., partial metal substitution) or integration of MOFs with other functional materials (e.g., metal clusters and reduced graphene oxide). Several key factors/properties that affect the performances of MOF-based materials are also reviewed, including electronic structures, nanoconfined effects, stability, conductivity, and atomic structures. The advancement in the fundamental understanding of these key factors is expected to shed light on the functioning mechanisms of MOFs (e.g., charge transfer pathways and guest-host interactions), which will subsequently accelerate the integration of precisely designed MOFs into electrochemical architectures to achieve highly effective water remediation with optimized selectivity and long-term stability.

Three-dimensional S-scheme heterojunction by integration of purple tungsten oxide nanowires and cadmium sulfide nanospheres for effective photocatalytic hydrogen generation

The practical photocatalytic application of cadmium sulfide (CdS) has been significantly constrained by fast carrier recombination and significant photocorrosion. Therefore, we developed a three-dimensional (3D) step-by-step (S-scheme) heterojunction using the coupling interface between purple tungsten oxide (W₁₈O₄₉) nanowires and CdS nanospheres. The photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate of optimized W₁₈O₄₉/CdS 3D S-scheme heterojunction can reach 9.7 mmol·h^-1·g^-1, 7.5 and 16.2 times greater than pure CdS (1.3 mmol·h^-1·g^-1) and 10 wt%-W₁₈O₄₉/CdS (mechanical mixing, 0.6 mmol·h^-1·g^-1), proving that the tight S-scheme heterojunction constructed by the hydrothermal method can efficiently enhance the carrier separation. Notably, the apparent quantum efficiency (AQE) of W₁₈O₄₉/CdS 3D S-scheme heterojunction approaches 7.5% and 3.5% at 370 nm and 456 nm, respectively, which is 7.5 and 8.8 times than pure CdS (1.0% and 0.4%). The produced W₁₈O₄₉/CdS catalyst also has relative stability of structure and hydrogen production. Additionally, the H₂ evolution rate of W₁₈O₄₉/CdS 3D S-scheme heterojunction is 1.2 times greater than 1 wt%-platinum (Pt)/CdS (8.2 mmol·h^-1·g^-1), which indicates that the W₁₈O₄₉ can effectively replace the precious metal for boosting the hydrogen production rate.

Charge transfer in metal-organic frameworks

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs, also known as porous coordination polymers or PCPs) are a novel class of crystalline porous material. The tailorable porous structure, in terms of size, geometry and function, has attracted the attention of researchers across all disciplines of materials science. One of the many exciting aspects of MOFs is that through directional and reversible coordination bonding, organic linkers (chromophores with metal-coordinating functional groups) and metal ions (and clusters) can be spatially organized in a preconceived geometry. The well-defined spatial geometry of the metals and linkers is very advantageous for optoelectronic functions (solar cells, light-emitting diodes, photocatalysts) of the materials. This feature article evaluates the scope of charge transfer (CT) interactions in MOFs, involving the organic linkers and metal ion or cluster components. Irrespective of the type (size, shape, electronic property) of organic chromophores involved, MOFs provide an insightful path to design and make the CT process efficient. The selected examples of MOFs with CT characteristics do not only illustrate the design principles but render a pathway towards understanding the complex photophysical processes and implementing those for future optoelectronic and catalytic applications.

Substituted Ti(IV) in Ce-UiO-66-NH2 Metal-Organic Frameworks Increases H2 and O2 Evolution under Visible Light

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as photocatalysts have received increasing attention. In this work, a dual metal-substituted UiO-66-NH₂ (Ti/Ce-MOF) containing different Ti/Ce mole ratios (x = 0-2.46) has been prepared via post-synthetic exchange between Ce-UiO-66 and TiCl₄, followed by amination. The solid had a high surface area (828-937 m²/g) and a large pore volume (0.451-0.507 m³/g). Under visible light, Ti/Ce-MOF showed x-dependent activity for H₂O reduction and oxidation on a film electrode, respectively. However, such a change for H₂ evolution in a Na₂S/Na₂SO₃ aqueous solution was observed only after CdS loading. In combination with the photoluminescence and band parameters, we propose that the photoactivity of Ti/Ce-MOF for redox reaction is determined by its ability for electron transfer. Furthermore, there is an interfacial electron transfer from Ti/Ce-MOF to CdS and a hole transfer from CdS to Ti/Ce-MOF, respectively, significantly improving the efficiency of charge separation for redox reactions. This work offers a new insight that Ti substitution benefits the performance of Ce-based MOF.

Functionalized MOF-Based Photocatalysts for CO2 Reduction

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) materials have become a research forefront in the field of photocatalytic CO₂ reduction attributed to their ultra-high specific surface area, adjustable structure, and abundant catalytic active sites. Particularly, MOFs can be facilely tuned to match CO₂ photoreduction by utilizing post-modification of metal nodes, functionalization of organic linkers, and combination with other active materials. Herein, the recent advances in the construction strategy of MOF-based photocatalysts materials for CO₂ reduction are highlighted. Some systematic modification strategies on MOF-based photocatalysts are also discussed, such as modification of metal sites and organic ligands, construction of heterojunction, introduction of single/dual-atom, and strain engineering. Finally, the future development directions of MOF-based photocatalysts in the field of CO₂ reduction are presented.

PdS Quantum Dots as a Hole Attractor Encapsulated into the MOF@Cd0.5Zn0.5S Heterostructure for Boosting Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution under Visible Light

Herein, a new photocatalyst PdS@UiOS@CZS is successfully synthesized, where thiol-functionalized UiO-66 (UiOS), a metal-organic framework (MOF) material, is used as a host to encapsulate PdS quantum dots (QDs) in its cages, and Cd_0.5Zn_0.5S (CZS) solid solution nanoparticles (NPs) are anchored on its outer surface. The resultant PdS@UiOS@CZS with an optimal ratio between components displays an excellent photocatalytic H₂ evolution rate of 46.1 mmol h^-1 g^-1 under visible light irradiation (420∼780 nm), which is 512.0, 9.2, and 5.9 times that of pure UiOS, CZS, and UiOS@CZS, respectively. The reason for the significantly enhanced performance is that the encapsulated PdS QDs strongly attract the photogenerated holes into the pores of UiOS, while the photogenerated electrons are effectively migrated to CZS due to the heterojunction effect, thereby effectively suppressing the recombination of charge carriers for further high-efficiency hydrogen production. This work provides an idea for developing efficient photocatalysts induced by hole attraction.

The Advanced Synthesis of MOFs-Based Materials in Photocatalytic HER in Recent Three Years

Since the advent of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs), researchers have paid extensive attention to MOFs due to their determined structural composition, controllable pore size, and diverse physical and chemical properties. Photocatalysis, as a significant application of MOFs catalysts, has developed rapidly in recent years and become a research hotspot continuously. Various methods and approaches to construct and modify MOFs and their derivatives can not only affect the structure and morphology, but also largely determine their properties. Herein, we summarize the advanced synthesis of MOFs-based materials in the field of the photocatalytic decomposition of water to produce hydrogen in the recent three years. The main contents include the overview of the novel synthesis strategies in four aspects: internal modification and structure optimization of MOFs materials, MOFs/semiconductor composites, MOFs/COFs-based hybrids, and MOFs-derived materials. In addition, the problems and challenges faced in this direction and the future development goals were also discussed. We hope this review will help deepen the reader’s understanding and promote continued high-quality development in this field.

Exciton Dynamics in Colloidal CdS Quantum Dots with Intense and Stokes Shifted Photoluminescence in a Single Decay Channel

CdS quantum dots (QDs), synthesized by a sol-gel method, exhibit significantly Stokes shifted bright photoluminescence (PL), predominantly from the trap states. Surprisingly, the PL decay at the emission maximum is single-exponential. This is an unusual observation for as-prepared QDs and indicates a narrow distribution in the nature of trap states. A closer look reveals an additional fast component for the decays at shorter emission wavelengths, presumably due to the band edge emission, which remains elusive in the steady-state spectra. Indeed, a significantly narrower and blue-shifted emission band is observed in the decay-associated spectra. The contribution of this component to the steady-state PL intensity is shown to be overwhelmed by that of the significantly stronger trap emission. Exciton dynamics in the quantum dots is elucidated using transient absorption spectra, in which the stimulated emission is observed even at low pump power.
