Sonogashira Synthesis of New Porous Aromatic Framework-Entrapped Palladium Nanoparticles as Heterogeneous Catalysts for Suzuki-Miyaura Cross-Coupling

Amphiphilic Dendronized Copolymer-Encapsulated Au, Ag and Pd Nanoparticles for Catalysis in the 4-Nitrophenol Reduction and Suzuki-Miyaura Reactions

The branched structures of dendronized polymers can provide good steric stabilization for metal nanoparticle catalysts. In this work, an amphiphilic dendronized copolymer containing hydrophilic branched triethylene glycol moieties and hydrophobic branched ferrocenyl moieties is designed and prepared by one-pot ring-opening metathesis polymerization, and is used as the stabilizer for metal (Au, Ag and Pd) nanoparticles. These metal nanoparticles (Au nanoparticles: 3.5 ± 3.0 nm; Ag nanoparticles: 7.2 ± 4.0 nm; Pd nanoparticles: 2.5 ± 1.0 nm) are found to be highly active in both the 4-nitrophenol reduction and Suzuki-Miyaura reactions. In the 4-nitrophenol reduction, Pd nanoparticles have the highest catalytic ability (TOF: 2060 h-1). In addition, Pd nanoparticles are also an efficient catalyst for Suzuki-Miyaura reactions (TOF: 1980 h-1) and possess good applicability for diverse substrates. The amphiphilic dendronized copolymer will open a new door for the development of efficient metal nanoparticle catalysts.

Diels-Alder cycloaddition polymerization for porous poly-phenylenes with exceptional gas uptake properties

We report the synthesis of two-dimensional and three-dimensional porous polyphenylenes (2D/3D-pPPs) via the Diels-Alder cycloaddition polymerization reaction. The resulting 2D and 3D-pPPs showed surface areas up to 1553 m2 g-1, pore volumes of 1.45 cm3 g-1 and very high H2 uptake capacities of 7.4 and 7.1 wt% at 77 K, respectively, along with a competitive high-pressure CO2 and CH4 uptake performance.

Palladium Nanoparticle-Decorated Porous Metal-Organic-Framework (Zr)@Guanidine: Novel Efficient Catalyst in Cross-Coupling (Suzuki, Heck, and Sonogashira) Reactions and Carbonylative Sonogashira under Mild Conditions

A novel heterogeneous Zr-based metal-organic framework containing an amino group functionalized with nitrogen-rich organic ligand (guanidine), through a step-by-step post synthesis modification approach, was successfully modified by the stabilization of palladium metal nanoparticles on the prepared UiO-66-NH₂ support in order to synthesize the Suzuki-Murray, Mizoroki-Heck, and copper-free Sonogashira reactions and also the carbonylative Sonogashira reaction incorporating H₂O as a green solvent under mild conditions. This newly synthesized highly efficient and reusable UiO-66-NH₂@cyanuric chloride@guanidine/Pd-NPs reported catalyst has been utilized to increase anchoring palladium onto the substrate with the aim of altering the construction of the intended synthesis catalyst to form the C-C coupling derivatives. Several strategies, including X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, transmission microscopy electron, thermogravimetric analysis, inductively coupled plasma, energy-dispersive X-ray, and elemental mapping analyzes, were used to indicate the successful preparation of the UiO-66-NH₂@cyanuric chloride@guanidine/Pd-NPs. In these reactions, the UiO-66-NH₂-supported Pd-NPs illustrated superior performances compared to their catalyst, revealing the benefits of providing nanocatalysts. As a result, the proposed catalyst is favorable in a green solvent, and also, the outputs are accomplished with good to excellent outputs. Furthermore, the suggested catalyst represented very good reusability with no remarkable loss in activity up nine sequential runs.

Stabilization of Palladium-Nanoparticle-Decorated Postsynthesis-Modified Zr-UiO-66 MOF as a Reusable Heterogeneous Catalyst in C-C Coupling Reaction

Here we prepared a highly efficient and reusable catalyst by a step-by-step postsynthesis modification of UiO-66-NH₂ metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with nitrogen-rich organic ligands and used it as support for the preparation of UiO-66-NH₂@cyanuric chloride@2-aminopyrimidine/Pd_NPs. The catalytic performance's results of UiO-66-NH₂@cyanuric chloride@2-aminopyrimidine/PdNPs, UiO-66-NH₂/PdNPs, and UiO-66-NH₂@cyanuric chloride/PdNPs indicate high efficiency of the modulation of the microenvironment of the palladium NPs. The addition of N-rich organic ligands through postsynthesis modification caused a unique structure of the final composite in favor of the progress of the C-C coupling reaction. Various techniques, including FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM, EDS, and elemental mapping, were used to characterize UiO-66-NH₂@cyanuric chloride@2-aminopyrimidine/Pd_NPs, indicating its successful preparation. Three C-C coupling reactions, including the Suzuki, Heck, and Sonogashira coupling reactions, were promoted using the produced catalyst. As a result of the postsynthesis modification (PSM), the proposed catalyst displays improved catalytic performance. In addition, the suggested catalyst was highly recyclable up to ten times without leaching of PdNPs.

Carbon-Carbon Linked Organic Frameworks: An Explicit Summary and Analysis

Organic frameworks with carbon-carbon (CC) linkage are an important class of materials owing to their outstanding chemical stability and extended π-electron delocalization resulting in unique optoelectronic properties. In the first part of this review article, the design principles for the bottom-up synthesis of 2D and 3D sp/sp² CC linked organic frameworks are summarized. Representative reaction methodologies, such as Knoevenagel condensation, Aldol condensation, Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction, Wittig reaction, and coupling reactions (Ullmann, Suzuki, Heck, Yamamoto, etc.) are included. This is discussed in the context of their reaction mechanism, reaction dynamics, and whether and why resulting in an amorphous or crystalline product. This is followed by a discussion of different state-of-the art bottom-up synthesis methodologies, like solvothermal, interfacial, and solid-state synthesis. In the second part, the structure-property relationships in CC linked organic frameworks with representative examples of organocatalysis, photo(electro)catalysis, energy storage and conversion, magnetism, and molecular storage and separation are analyzed. The importance of linkage type, building blocks, topology, and crystallinity of the framework material in connection with the structure-property relationship is highlighted. Finally, brief concluding remarks are presented based on the key development of bottom-up synthetic methods and provide perspectives for future development in this field.

Photocatalytic Water Splitting Promoted by 2D and 3D Porphyrin Covalent Organic Polymers Synthesized by Suzuki-Miyaura Carbon-Carbon Coupling

This work deals with the synthesis of metal-free and porphyrin-based covalent organic polymers (COPs) by the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling carbon-carbon bond forming reaction to study the photocatalytic overall water splitting performance. Apart from using 5,10,15,20-Tetrakis-(4-bromophenyl)porphyrin, we have chosen different cross-linker monomers to induce 2-dimensional (2D) or 3-dimensional (3D) and different rigidity in their resulting polymeric molecular structure. The synthesised COPs were extensively characterised to reveal that the dimensionality and flexibility of the molecular structure play an intense role in the physical, photochemical, and electronic properties of the polymers. Photoinduced excited state of the COPs was evaluated by nanosecond time-resolved laser transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) by analysing excited state kinetics and quenching experiments, photocurrent density measurements and photocatalytic deposition of Ru³⁺ to RuO_2, and photocatalysis. In summary, TAS experiments demonstrated that the transient excited state of these polymers has two decay kinetics and exhibit strong interaction with water molecules. Moreover, photocurrent and photocatalytic deposition experiments proved that charges are photoinduced and are found across the COP molecular network, but more important charges can migrate from the surface of the COP to the medium. Among the various COPs tested, COP-3 that has a flexible and 3D molecular structure reached the best photocatalytic performances, achieving a photocatalytic yield of 0.4 mmol H₂ × g_COP-3^-1 after 3 h irradiation.

Porous aromatic frameworks with high Pd nanoparticles loading as efficient catalysts for the Suzuki coupling reaction

The development of efficient and recyclable heterogeneous Pd catalysts is an area of continuing attention due to their critical applications in organic synthesis and pharmaceutical production. In this study, two novel heterogeneous catalysts Pd@PAF-182 and Pd@PAF-183 were prepared by the immobilization/NaBH₄ reduction of PdCl₄^2- on hydrophilic cationic porous aromatic frameworks (PAF-182 and PAF-183), which were synthesized via a Yamamoto-type Ullmann coupling reaction from the corresponding aryl quaternary phosphonium salt monomer. Characterization by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), solid-state Cross-Polarization Magic-Angle-Spinning Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (CP/MAS NMR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) established the structures of the as-prepared catalysts. Inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) detection showed that the loading of Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) were 29.4 wt% for Pd@PAF-182 and 37.5 wt% for Pd@PAF-183, much higher than those of similar porous materials. Evaluation of the catalytic activity of the Pd@PAFs using Suzuki coupling as the model reaction demonstrated that as little as 0.12 mol% of Pd NPs could catalyze the Suzuki coupling with high efficiency, achieving yields up to 99% at 80 °C in 8 h. Recycling experiments also suggested that Pd@PAF-182 and Pd@PAF-183 maintained high catalytic activity with negligible leaching of Pd NPs after five cycles.
