Tuning the Charge Transport Property and Photocatalytic Activity of Anthracene-Based 1D π-d Conjugated Coordination Polymers by Interlayer Stacking

Modulating the Primary and Secondary Coordination Spheres of Single Ni(II) Sites in Metal-Organic Frameworks for Boosting Photocatalysis

Though the coordination environment of single metal sites has been recognized to be of great importance in promoting catalysis, the influence of simultaneous precise modulation of primary and secondary coordination spheres on catalysis remains largely unknown. Herein, a series of single Ni(II) sites with altered primary and secondary coordination spheres have been installed onto metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with UiO-67 skeleton, affording UiO-Ni-X-Y (X = S, O; Y = H, Cl, CF3) with X and Y on the primary and secondary coordination spheres, respectively. Upon deposition with CdS nanoparticles, the resulting composites present high photocatalytic H2 production rates, in which the optimized CdS/UiO-Ni-S-CF3 exhibits an excellent activity of 13.44 mmol g-1, ∼500 folds of the pristine catalyst (29.6 μmol g-1 for CdS/UiO), in 8 h, highlighting the key role of microenvironment modulation around Ni sites. Charge kinetic analysis and theoretical calculation results demonstrate that the charge transfer dynamics and reaction energy barrier are closely correlated with their coordination spheres. This work manifests the advantages of MOFs in the fabrication of structurally precise catalysts and the elucidation of particular influences of microenvironment modulation around single metal sites on the catalytic performance.

Ultrafast and Scalable Fabrication of Coordination Polymer Films on Network Substrates via Thermal Current-Induced Dewetting

Coordination polymers are among the most favored active materials by researchers due to their broad application prospects. However, most of them are usually difficult to directly process into applicable devices because of their unsatisfied processability. One process of great concern for researchers is the in situ preparation of the coordination polymer on the applicable substrate, especially for the favored network substrates with good mechanical properties and 3D porous structure, which could provide obvious convenience and facilitation in the application process. Herein, we present an ultrafast and scalable thermal current-induced dewetting strategy to obtain uniform coordination polymer film in situ on network substrates, which could enable unprecedented convenience to obtain directly usable coordination polymer composites such as practical catalytic electrodes with excellent electrocatalytic performance. The proposed thermal current-induced dewetting method provides a highly adaptable and efficient practical production approach to integrate coordination polymer materials with network substrates and also provides new inspiration for understanding and applying the dewetting process on complex 3D network substrates.

Linear Conjugated Coordination Polymers for Electrocatalytic Oxygen Evolution Reaction

Conjugated coordination polymers (CCPs) have attracted extensive attention for various applications related to energy storage and conversion in the past few years, despite that there are many CCPs with unclear chemical states and structures. Here, linear CCPs (LCCPs), with metal-O₄ active sites grown on carbon paper (CP) for oxygen evolution reaction (OER), are presented. The LCCPs with high crystallinity and simple structures exhibit the order of electrocatalytic activity of Co-O₄  > Ni-O₄  > Fe-O₄ in terms of the metal-O₄ centers. The Co-based LCCP shows higher OER performance (263 mV at 10 mA cm^-2 ) and better durability (90 h at 30 mA cm^-2 ) than commercial IrO₂ /CP. The structures and chemical states of LCCPs are carefully investigated, and density functional theory is used to reveal the mechanism of OER at the central metal site. This investigation into LCCPs provides new sights for a better understanding of CCPs and expands the applications of LCCPs with metal-O₄ sites.
