Electrochemical and Photoelectrochemical Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide Using Cu2O/Cu Nanowires Decorated with TiO2-x Deriving from MXenes

One-pot synthesis and hydrogen peroxide electrochemical sensing of 3D TiO2/MnO2 nanorods assembled microspheres

Nanorods assembled 3D microspheres of TiO2/MnO2 were prepared via a simple one-pot hydrothermal approach. The resultant composite material exhibited remarkable electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in comparison to each single component. The electrochemical sensor constructed with TiO2/MnO2 exhibited a linear relationship within the range 0.0001-5.6 mmol·L-1 for H2O2. The limit of detection (LOD) and sensitivity for H2O2 were 0.03 µmol·L-1 (S/N = 3) and 316.6 µA (mmol·L-1)-1 cm-2. Moreover, this sensor can be employed to detect trace amount of H2O2 in serum and urine samples successfully, supporting an insight and strategy for a more sensitive electrochemical sensor.

A Multifunctional Hydrogel for Simultaneous Visible H2 O2 Monitoring And Accelerating Diabetic Wound Healing

Diabetic wound is one of the chronic wounds that is difficult to heal, and effective treatment of it still confronts a great challenge. Monitoring the variation of diabetic wound microenvironment (such as hydrogen peroxide (H2 O2 )) can understand the wound state and guide the wound management. Herein, a multifunctional hydrogel with the abilities of monitoring the H2 O2 concentration, alleviating oxidative stress and promoting wound healing is developed, which is prepared by encapsulating manganese-containing bioactive glass (MnBG) and CePO4 :Tb in biocompatible gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel (CPT-MnBG-Gel). On the one hand, the H2 O2 -dependent fluorescence quenching effect of the CePO4 :Tb contributes to visible monitoring of the H2 O2 concentration of wounds via smartphone imaging, and the CPT-MnBG-Gel hydrogel can effectively monitor the H2 O2 level of 10.35-200 µmol L-1 . On the other hand, MnBG can alleviate oxidative stress and promote the proliferation, migration and differentiation of fibroblasts and endothelial cells in vitro owing to the bioactive Mn and Si ions, and in vivo evaluation also demonstrates that the CPT-MnBG-Gel hydrogels can effectively accelerate wound healing. Hence, such multifunctional hydrogel is promising for diabetic wound management and accelerating wound healing.

Flow injection analysis coupled with photoelectrochemical immunoassay for simultaneous detection of anti-SARS-CoV-2-spike and anti-SARS-CoV-2-nucleocapsid antibodies in serum samples

A thin-layer flow cell of low internal volume (12 μL) is incorporated in a flow injection analysis (FIA) system for simultaneous and real-time photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunoassay of anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike 1 (S1) and anti-SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) antibodies. Covalent linkage of S1 and N proteins to two separate polyethylene glycol (PEG)-covered gold nanoparticles (AuNPs)/TiO2 nanotube array (NTA) electrodes affords 10 consecutive analyses with surface regenerations in between. An indium tin oxide (ITO) allows visible light to impinge onto the two electrodes. The detection limits for anti-S1 and anti-N antibodies were estimated to be 177 and 97 ng mL-1, respectively. Such values compare well with those achieved with other reported methods and satisfy the requirement for screening convalescent patients with low antibody levels. Additionally, our method exhibits excellent intra-batch (RSD = 1.3%), inter-batch (RSD = 3.4%), intra-day (RSD = 1.0%), and inter-day (RSD = 1.6%) reproducibility. The obviation of an enzyme label and continuous analysis markedly decreased the assay cost and duration, rendering this method cost-effective. The excellent anti-fouling property of PEG enables accuracy validation by comparing our PEC immunoassays of patient sera to those of ELISA. In addition, the simultaneous detection of two antibodies holds great potential in disease diagnosis and immunity studies.

UiO-66-Derived PBA Composite as Multifunctional Electrochemical Non-Enzymatic Sensor Realizing High-Performance Detection of Hydrogen Peroxide and Glucose

In this work, a highly efficient multifunctional non-enzymatic electrochemical sensor is successfully fabricated based on a facile two-step synthetic strategy. It resolves two important challenges of poor stability and low reproducibility compared to conventional electrochemical enzyme-based sensors. Herein, a metal-organic framework (UiO-66) is selected as a sacrificial template to construct the corresponding Prussian blue analogue (PBA) target to improve its stability and conductivity, namely, PBA/UiO-66/NF. Target PBA/UiO-66/NF exhibits excellent electrochemical sensing performance as hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and glucose sensors with ultrahigh sensitivity of up to 1903 μA mM^-1 cm^-2 for H₂O₂ and 22,800 μA mM^-1 cm^-2 for glucose, as well as a very low detection limit of 0.02 μM (S/N = 3) for H₂O₂ and 0.28 μM for glucose. Especially, extremely high stability can be observed, which will be beneficial for practical application.
