Abstract
In this study, new chalcone compound 1 , new phthalonitrile derivatives 2 and 3, new copper(II), manganese(III) phthalocyanines bearing chalcone groups at peripheral or nonperipheral positions were synthesized. Electrochemistry of tetra-(4-{(2 E )-3-[2-fluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]prop-2-enoyl}phenoxy) substituted Co(II)Pc and Mn(III)Pcs were studied with cyclic voltammetry (CV) to determine the redox properties of the phthalocyanines. According to the results, while the CuPcs 2a and 3a showed two Pc based reduction reactions and one Pc based oxidation reaction, MnPcs 2b and 3b gave two metal-based reduction reactions. All the redox processes are shifted toward positive potentials as a result of the increased electron-withdrawing ability of the trifluoromethyl substituents.

Abstract
A one-pot synthesis methodology was employed for obtaining diverse quintuple-decker phthalocyanine heterometallic lanthanide-cadmium complexes. By using the reaction of a double-decker homoleptic/heteroleptic phthalocyanine samarium compound with metal-free phthalocyanine and cadmium acetate in 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene at 200 °C, two novel quintuple-decker heteroleptic phthalocyanine heterometallic samarium-cadmium compounds, {(Pc)Sm(Pc)Cd(Pc*)Cd(Pc)Sm(Pc)} (1) and {(Pc)Sm(Pc*)Cd(Pc*)Cd(Pc*)Sm(Pc)} (2), together with one homoleptic phthalocyanine species, {(Pc*)Sm(Pc*)Cd(Pc*)Cd(Pc*)Sm(Pc*)} (3), were successfully fabricated, where H2Pc and H2Pc* represent unsubstituted phthalocyanine and 2,3,9,10,16,17,23,24-octakis(n-pentyloxy)phthalocyanine, respectively. Their quintuple-decker structures have been disclosed by various spectroscopic techniques and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In addition, valence tautomerization of these three quintuple-decker complexes has been achieved by the addition of phenoxathiin hexachloroantimonate, giving three oxidized forms including one-, two-, and three-electron oxidation products. From 1 to 3 with the same oxidation state, the increased number of n-pentyloxy substituents of phthalocyanine ligands induces the blue shift of electronic absorption in the IR region due to the increased gap associated with the introduction of electron-donating substituents. In particular, the electronic absorption spectra of one- and two-electron oxidation products for 1 exhibit a rare band in the middle-IR region around 3000 nm, being one of the farthest electronic transitions captured by UV-vis spectroscopy. The three-electron oxidation product of 1 displays two bands at 2231 and 2740 nm, respectively. These data are well confirmed by IR spectroscopic data and theoretical calculation results.

Abstract
Silver nanowires and Ag@polycarbazole nanocables have been effectively fabricated. Polyol-reduction and ion adsorption process were used to fabricate pure silver nanowires and Ag@polycarbazole nanocomposite by using an oxidant (iron acetate). Ions of oxidant were adsorbed on the surface of pure silver nanowires to oxidize carbazole monomers for efficient polymerization. The morphology of nanowires and Ag@PCz composite were characterized by using SEM, FT-IR and photoluminescence analysis. The SEM shows the presence of a smooth polymeric sheath. FT-IR and photoluminescence analysis shows dominant peaks that indicate the presence of silver nanowires and polycarbazole (PCz) with a smooth polymeric coating. Nanoparticle analyzer was used to determine z-average and actual size of sample. UV-visible spectrum shows two bands that were dominant at 345 and 410 nm. These are π to π* transitions that indicates the presence of polycarbazole nanocables.

Abstract
The rapid and reliable detection of lethal agents such as sarin is of increasing importance. Here, density-functional theory (DFT) is used to compare the interaction of sarin with single-metal-centered phthalocyanine (MPc) and MPc layer structures to a benign model system, i.e., the adsorption of dimethyl methylphosphonate (DMMP). The calculations show that sarin and DMMP behave nearly identical to the various MPcs studied. Among NiPc, CuPc, CoPc, and zinc phthalocyanine (ZnPc), we find the interaction of both sarin and DMMP to be the strongest with ZnPc, both in terms of interaction energy and adsorption-induced work function changes. ZnPc is thus proposed as a promising sensor for sarin detection. Using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, the theoretically predicted charge transfer from DMMP to ZnPc is confirmed and identified as a key component in the sensing mechanism.
