Abstract
Anion exchange membrane fuel cells are a potentially cost-effective energy conversion technology, however, the electrocatalyst for the anodic hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) suffers from sluggish kinetics under alkaline conditions. Herein, we report that Ru-based nanosheets with amorphous-crystalline heterointerfaces of Ru and Ti-doped RuO2 (a/c-Ru/Ti-RuO2) can serve as a highly efficient HOR catalyst with a mass activity of 4.16 A mgRu-1, which is 19.8-fold higher than that of commercial Pt/C. Detailed characterization studies show that abundant amorphous-crystalline heterointerfaces of a/c-Ru/Ti-RuO2 nanosheets provide oxygen vacancies and unsaturated coordination bonds for balancing adsorption of hydrogen and hydroxyl species on Ru active sites to elevate HOR activity. Moreover, Ti doping can facilitate CO oxidation, leading to enhanced strength to CO poisoning. This work provides a strategy for enhancing alkaline HOR performance over Ru-based catalysts with heteroatom and heterointerface dual-engineering, which will attract immediate interest in chemistry, materials science and beyond.

Abstract
The identification of active sites in electrocatalytic reactions is part of the elucidation of mechanisms of catalyzed reactions on solid surfaces. However, this is not an easy task, even for apparently simple reactions, as we sometimes think the oxidation of adsorbed CO is. For surfaces consisting of non-equivalent sites, the recognition of specific active sites must consider the influence that facets, as is the steps/defect on the surface of the catalyst, cause in its neighbors; one has to consider the electrochemical environment under which the "active sites" lie on the surface, meaning that defects/steps on the surface do not partake in chemistry by themselves. In this paper, we outline the recent efforts in understanding the close relationships between site-specific and the overall rate and/or selectivity of electrocatalytic reactions. We analyze hydrogen adsorption/desorption, and electro-oxidation of CO, methanol, and ammonia. The classical topic of asymmetric electrocatalysis on kinked surfaces is also addressed for glucose electro-oxidation. The article takes into account selected existing data combined with our original works.

Abstract
Pt-based catalyst is widely used in CO oxidation, while its catalytic activity is often undermined because of the CO poisoning effect. Here, using density functional theory, we propose the use of a Ru-Pt bimetallic cluster supported on TiO2 for CO oxidation, to achieve both high activity and low CO poisoning effect. Excellent catalytic activity is obtained in a Ru1Pt7/TiO2(101) system, which is ascribed to strong electric fields induced by charge polarization between one Ru atom and its neighboring Pt atoms. Because of its lower electronegativity, the Ru atom donates electrons to neighboring Pt. This induces strong electric fields around the top-layered Ru, substantially promoting the adsorption of O2/CO + O2 and eliminating the CO poisoning effect. In addition, the charge polarization also drives the d-band center of the Ru1Pt7 cluster to up-shift to the Fermi level. For surface O2 activation/CO oxidation, the strong electric field and d-band center close to the Fermi level can promote the adsorption of O2 and CO as well as reduce the reaction barrier of the rate-determining step. Meanwhile, since O2 easily dissociates on Ru1Pt7/TiO2(101) resulting in unwanted oxidation of Ru and Pt, a CO-rich condition is necessary to protect the catalyst at high temperature.

Abstract
Shape control of noble metal (NM) nanocrystals (NCs) is of great importance for improving their electrocatalytic performance. In this report, branched Pd@Rh core@shell NCs that have right square prism-like arms with preferential exposure of Rh {100} facets (denoted as b-Pd@Rh-NCs thereafter) are synthesized and utilized as an electrocatalyst for the hydrazine electrooxidation (HEO) in acidic and alkaline electrolytes. The b-Pd@Rh-NCs are obtained by the heteroepitaxial growth of Rh on the pre-formed branched Pd NCs (denoted as b-Pd-NCs thereafter) core in the presence of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and bromide ions. A comparative analysis of the voltammetric data for the HEO shows a higher activity on the b-Pd@Rh-NCs exposed with Rh {100} faces than on Rh black, the b-Pd-NCs, and Pd black in acid and alkaline solutions, indicating a structure sensitivity of the reaction. Analysis of the products from the b-Pd@Rh-NCs catalysed HEO reveals a very high hydrazine fuel efficiency, as determined by on-line differential electrochemical mass spectrometry (DEMS).
