Abstract
An unprecedented meglumine-based three-component deep eutectic solvent (3c-DES) (MegPAc) was synthesized using meglumine, p-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA), and acetic acid as a renewable, and non-toxic solvent. The exploitation of the MegPAc as an eco-friendly reaction media to construct a selective and sensitive small organic molecular sensing probe, namely, pyrazolo[5,1-b]quinazoline-3-carboxylates (PQCs) was executed. Captivatingly, the MegPAc served the dual role of solvent and catalyst, and it delivered the title components with 69-94 % yields within 67-150 minutes. Furthermore, a UV-visible study unfolds the selective detection of Cu2+ ions with our synthetic probe 4 ba and resulted in hypsochromic shift due to electrostatic interactions. Additionally, 1 H NMR titration study and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed to attest the binding mechanism of sensing probe 4 ba and Cu2+ ions. Worthy of mention, this protocol unveils the efficacy of meglumine-based 3c-DES for the first time as a bio-renewable system to synthesize the PQCs.

Photoswitchable Photochromic Chelating Spironaphthoxazines: Synthesis, Photophysical Properties, Quantum-Chemical Calculations, and Complexation Ability. ACS OMEGA 2024; 9:4144-4161. Abstract
The stable and efficient photochromic and photoswitchable molecular systems designed from spirooxazines are of increasing scientific and practical interest because of their present and future applications in advanced technologies. Among these compounds, chelating spironaphthoxazines have received widespread attention due to their efficient optical response after complexation with some metal ions being of biomedical interest and environmental importance, as well as their good cycle performance and high reliability, especially by metal ion sensing. In this mini-review, we summarize our results in the design of novel photoswitchable chelating spironaphthoxazines with specific substituents in their naphthoxazine or indoline ring systems in view of recent progress in the development of such molecular systems and their applications as metal ion sensors. The design, synthesis methods, and photoresponse of such spirooxazine derivatives relevant to their applications, as well as quantum-chemical calculations for these compounds, are presented. Examples of various design concepts are discussed, such as sulfobutyl, hydroxyl, benzothiazolyl, or ester and carboxylic acid as substituents in the chelating spironaphthoxazine molecules. Further developments and improvements of this interesting and promising kind of molecular photoswitches are outlined.

Spectroscopic and theoretical studies on a novel bis(salamo)-like probe for highly effective fluorimetric-colorimetric identification of Fe 3+ and Cu 2+ in aquo-organic medium. SPECTROCHIMICA ACTA. Abstract
A novel bis(salamo)-type sensor FT for fluorescence-colorimetric recognition of Fe3+/Cu2+ has been created, which revealed significant fluorescent performance and colorimetric sensing ability for Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions, superior to other related competitive metal ions. Interestingly, the binding of the FT probe with Cu2+ ions manifested an instant color change from colorless to red in sunlight, which is detectable by the naked-eye, and a fluorescence turn-off response under UV light for Fe3+ and Cu2+. The results demonstrated that the probe exhibits better sensitivity, greater affinity and lower limit of detection leading to quick response time in an aquo-organic medium. The excited state property of the FT probe and in the presence of Cu2+/Fe3+ was evaluated on the basis of DFT & TD-DFT results. Furthermore, test strips have been provided for convenient monitoring of Cu2+ and Fe3+ ions by naked eye and fluorescence method.

Abstract
Optical chemosensors are a practical tool for the detection and quantification of important analytes in biological and environmental fields, such as Cu2+ and Fe3+. To the best of our knowledge, a BODIPY derivative capable of detecting Cu2+ and Fe3+ simultaneously through a colorimetric response has not yet been described in the literature. In this work, a meso-triphenylamine-BODIPY derivative is reported for the highly selective detection of Cu2+ and Fe3+. In the preliminary chemosensing study, this compound showed a significant color change from yellow to blue-green in the presence of Cu2+ and Fe3+. With only one equivalent of cation, a change in the absorption band of the compound and the appearance of a new band around 700 nm were observed. Furthermore, only 10 equivalents of Cu2+/Fe3+ were needed to reach the absorption plateau in the UV-visible titrations. Compound 1 showed excellent sensitivity toward Cu2+ and Fe3+ detection, with LODs of 0.63 µM and 1.06 µM, respectively. The binding constant calculation indicated a strong complexation between compound 1 and Cu2+/Fe3+ ions. The 1H and 19F NMR titrations showed that an increasing concentration of cations induced a broadening and shifting of the aromatic region peaks, as well as the disappearance of the original fluorine peaks of the BODIPY core, which suggests that the ligand-metal (1:2) interaction may occur through the triphenylamino group and the BODIPY core.
