Tris-Co(II)-H2O2 System-Mediated Durative Hydroxyl Radical Generation for Efficient Anionic Azo Dye Degradation by Integrating Electrostatic Attraction

Fluorescent carbon nanodot-based rapid cell nucleus staining and application for diagnosis

Cell nucleus status decides the activities of corresponding cells, making its rapid and effective staining important for revealing the actual condition of biological environment in life science and related fields. In this study, fast staining of cell nucleus is realized by fluorescent carbon nanodots (CDs). The staining mechanism is due to the positively charged CD surface-induced cell membrane penetration, which facilitates the CD-nucleus binding via electrostatic attraction. The size of cell nucleus is easily measured with fluorescence imaging technique. In addition, the CD-based cell nucleus stain is applied for discriminating the normal and cancer cells by determining the cell-to-nucleus ratio with fluorescence images.

N-Doped TiO2 Coupled with Manganese-Substituted Phosphomolybdic Acid Composites As Efficient Photocatalysis-Fenton Catalysts for the Degradation of Rhodamine B

The effectiveness of photocatalytic and Fenton reactions in the synergistic treatment of water pollution problems has become indisputable. In this paper, nitrogen-doped TiO₂ was selected as the catalyst for the photocatalytic reaction and manganese-substituted phosphomolybdic acid was used as the Fenton reagent, the two of which were combined together by acid impregnation to construct a binary photocatalysis-Fenton composite catalyst. The degradation experiments of the composite catalyst on RhB indicated that under UV-vis irradiation, the composite catalyst could degrade RhB almost completely within 8 min, and the degradation rate was 19.7 times higher than that of N-TiO₂, exhibiting a superior degradation ability. Simultaneously, a series of characterization methods were employed to analyze the structure, morphology, and optical properties of the catalysts. The results demonstrated that the nitrogen doping not only expanded the photo response range of TiO₂ but reduced the work function of TiO₂, which facilitated the transfer of electrons to the loaded Mn-HPMo side and further promoted the electron-hole separation efficiency. In addition, the introduction of Mn-HPMo provided three pathways for the activation of hydrogen peroxide, which enhanced the degradation activity. This study provides novel insights into the construction of binary and efficient catalysts with multiple hydroxyl radical generation pathways.

New advanced oxidation progress with chemiluminescence behavior based on NaClO triggered by WS2 nanosheets

As one integral part of coping strategies for addressing water pollution, advanced oxidation progresses (AOPs) get enormous attentions in recent years. However, the complex synthesis and high cost of H₂O₂ and K₂S₂O₈ hampered their developments. Herein, a novel AOP with the chemiluminescence (CL) property based on economic NaClO and WS₂ nanosheets was proposed to achieve efficient decomposition of organic pollutants. In this AOP, WS₂ nanosheets exhibited a dual-function feature of the catalyst and energy acceptor. It demonstrated that the reaction order of WS₂ nanosheets was equal to 0.8271 and enormous singlet oxygen (¹O₂),·ClO and hydroxyl radical (·OH) were generated in rhodamine B (RhB) degradation process. Interestingly, a strong CL emission was observed and reflected the relative concentration of ¹O₂ and·OH for adjusting the oxidizing capability in WS₂ nanosheets-NaClO system. Through a series of degradation tests, RhB, methylene blue (MB), p-nitrophenol and phenol were decomposed and the degradation efficiency of over 90% was achieved. Therefore, this study not only builds a chemiluminescent AOPs to eliminate organic pollutants, but also broadens the applications of WS₂ nanomaterials and CL in environmental field.
