Abstract
Infections caused by microorganisms are a public health problem worldwide. New biodetection systems are essential to diagnose with accuracy resulting in more effective treatment. In this work, we propose a ConA-conjugated graphene quantum dots and polypyrrole film-based biosensor for label-free detection of Candida albicans, Candida glabrata, Candida tropicalis, E. coli, B. subitilis, and S. aureus. We modified polypyrrole and graphene quantum dots (PPY-QDGs) with Concanavalin A (Con A) lectin. ConA is a glucose/mannose-specific lectin. The results showed that ConA lectin has the highest binding affinity for C. tropicalis and S. subtilis. PPY-GQDs-ConA binding profile revealed differential response for Candida spp (C. tropicalis > C. albicans > C. glabrata) and bacterial (B. subtilis > S. aureus > E. coli). The limits of detection (LOD) obtained were 1.42 CFU/mL for C. albicans, and 3.72 CFU/mL for C. glabrata. C. tropicalis yielded a LOD of 0.18 CFU/mL. The respective LODs for the evaluated bacteria were 0.39 CFU/mL for S. aureus, 0.72 CFU/mL for S. subtilis, and 2.63 CFU/mL for E. coli. The differential response obtained for the sensor can be attributed to the heterogeneous distribution of carbohydrates on the microorganism's surfaces. The proposed system based on a flexible substrate is effective for microbiological diagnosis.

Abstract
Endotoxin detection is important for determining bacterial contamination and infection in fields of food, pharmaceutical and clinical disease diagnosis. The horseshoe crab deformed cell lysate analysis is regarded as the gold-standard method, but the endangered and high-cost horseshoe crab animals required in sensing process further raise animal ethical issues and hinder their applications. The colorimetric methods based on nanozymes are simple and economical, but the low selectivity and sensitivity are still the bottleneck for their further application. Herein, we successfully developed a phenylboronic acid functionalized iron-based nanozyme with higher selectivity and highly catalytic activity for endotoxin sensing. The as-prepared colorimetric sensor using the obtained nanozyme as sensing probes shows a good linear relationship for endotoxin sensing in the range of 1-20 μg mL-1, with a LOD = 0.42 μg mL-1, along with good selectivity and reproducibility. The sensor can also be well applied to detecting endotoxin in practical samples such as beer and serum. Moreover, the parameters including time and temperature which could affect the endotoxin release from E. coli were also studied and optimized, based on the relationship between endotoxin and Gram-negative bacteria, the as-prepared sensor achieves the qualitative and quantification of E. coli.

Abstract
Escherichia coli (E. coli) is one of the most ubiquitous foodborne pathogens that can cause infections and threaten human health. Herein, a colorimetric method for sensitive detection of E. coli was established by using enzyme-nanozyme cascade reaction for signal amplification. Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) are well-known nanozymes due to their high peroxidase-like activity. When the dense cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) membrane on the surfaces of AuNPs kept the substrate away from AuNPs, the peroxidase activity of AuNPs was inhibited. However, the CTAB membrane could be disrupted by Ag+, resulting in enhanced peroxidase activity of AuNPs. When E. coli was present, the enzyme-nanozyme cascade reaction was initiated. The substrate p-aminophenyl β-D-galactopyranoside (PAPG) was hydrolyzed to the reductive p-aminophenol (PAP) by beta-galactosidase (β-gal) in E. coli, reducing Ag+ to Ag. Consequently, CTAB-AuNPs remained weak peroxidase activity and could not catalyze the H2O2-mediated oxidation of TMB. As the amount of E. coli increased, the absorbance of TMB decreased along with a color change from deep blue to pink. The absorbance intensity displayed a linear dependence on E. coli from 1.0 × 102 to 1.0 × 109 CFU mL-1. Therefore, the proposed method holds good prospects in foodborne pathogenic bacteria detection.

Abstract
Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) exhibit vast potential in numerous applications, such as wastewater treatment and catalysis. In this study, we report the green synthesis of Ag-NPs using Acacia ehrenbergiana plant cortex extract to reduce cationic Rhodamine B (RhB) dye and for antibacterial and antifungal applications. The green synthesis of Ag-NPs involves three main phases: activation, growth, and termination. The shape and morphologies of the prepared Ag-NPs were studied through different analytical techniques. The results confirmed the successful preparation of Ag-NPs with a particle size distribution ranging from 1 to 40 nm. The Ag-NPs were used as a heterogeneous catalyst to reduce RhB dye from aqueous solutions in the presence of sodium borohydride (NaBH4). The results showed that 96% of catalytic reduction can be accomplished within 32 min using 20 μL of 0.05% Ag-NPs aqueous suspension in 100 μL of 1 mM RhB solution, 2 mL of deionized water, and 1 mL of 10 mM NaBH4 solution. The results followed a zero-order chemical kinetic (R2 = 0.98) with reaction rate constant k as 0.059 mol L-1 s-1. Furthermore, the Ag-NPs were used as antibacterial and antifungal agents against 16 Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria as well as 1 fungus. The green synthesis of Ag-NPs is environmentally friendly and inexpensive, as well as yields highly stabilized nanoparticles by phytochemicals. The substantial results of catalytic reductions and antimicrobial activity reflect the novelty of the prepared Ag-NPs. These nanoparticles entrench the dye and effectively remove the microorganisms from polluted water.

Abstract
Microorganisms in food do harms to human. They can cause serious adverse reactions and sometimes even death. So it is an urgent matter to find an effective method to control them. The research of intelligent- biosensor packaging is in the ascendant in recent years, which is mainly promoted by reflecting on food safety and reducing resource waste. Intelligent biosensor-packaging is an instant and efficient intelligent packaging technology, which can directly and scientifically manifest the quality of food without complex operation. In this review, the purposes of providing relevant information on intelligent biosensor-packaging are reviewed, such as types of biosensors for monitoring foodborne microorganism, the suitable material for intelligent biosensor-packaging and design and fabrication of intelligent biosensor-packaging. The potential of intelligent biosensor-packaging in the detection of foodborne microorganisms is emphasized. The challenges and directions of the intelligent biosensor-packaging in the detection of foodborne pathogens are discussed. With the development of science and technology in the future, the intelligent biosensor-packaging should be commercialized in a real sense. And it is expected that commercial products can be manufactured in the future, which will provide a far-reaching approach in food safety and food prevention. HighlightsSeveral biosensors are suitable for the detection of food microorganisms.Plastic polymer is an excellent choice for the construction of intelligent biosensor packaging.Design and fabrication can lay the foundation for intelligent-biosensor packaging.Intelligent biosensor-packaging can realize fast and real-time detection of microorganisms in food.

Abstract
Foodborne pathogens contamination is one of the main sources of food safety problems. Although the existing detection methods have been developed for a long time, the complexity of food samples is still the main factor affecting the detection time and sensitivity, and the rapid separation and enrichment of pathogens is still an objective to be studied. Magnetic separation strategy based on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) is considered to be an effective tool for rapid separation and enrichment of foodborne pathogens in food. Therefore, this study comprehensively reviews the development of MNPs in the separation of foodborne pathogens over the past decade. First, various biorecognition reagents for identification of foodborne pathogens and their modifications on the surface of MNPs are introduced. Then, the factors affecting the separation of foodborne pathogens, including the size of MNPs, modification methods, separation strategies and separation forms are discussed. Finally, the application of MNPs in integrated detection methods is reviewed. Moreover, current challenges and prospects of MNPs for the analysis of foodborne pathogens are discussed. Further research should focus on the design of multifunctional MNPs, the processing of large-scale samples, the simultaneous analysis of multiple targets, and the development of all-in-one small analytical device with separation and detection.
