Abstract
The development of composites with highly efficient microwave absorption (MA) performance deeply depends on polarization loss, which can be induced by charge redistribution. Considering the fact that polarization centers can be easily obtained in graphene, herein, iron phthalocyanine (FePc) is used as polarization site to coordinate with nitrogen-doped graphene (FePc/N-rGO) to optimize MA performance comprehensively. The factors influencing MA properties focus on the interaction between FePc and N-rGO, and the change of dipole moments. The density functional theory (DFT) results demonstrated that FePc has strong interaction with N defect sites in graphene. The charge loss for FePc and charge accumulation for N-rGO occurred, leading to great increase of dipole moment, and the increased dipole moment can be acted as a descriptor to evaluate the enhanced polarization loss. Due to high charge redistribution capacity of N defect sites and FePc polarization centers, the FePc/N-rGO showed excellent MA properties in C band, and the minimum reflection loss value can reach -49.3 dB at 5.4 GHz with thickness of 3.8 mm. In addition, the fabric loaded with FePc/N-rGO showed good heat dissipation property. This work opens the door to the development of MA performance bound to polarization site with dipole moment.

Abstract
Nitrite pollution poses a serious threat to human health and the environment. In this study, a reliable and selective electrochemical (EC) sensor was developed for the quantitative determination of nitrite by combining flower-like three-dimensional (3D) MoS2 microspheres with two-dimensional (2D) C3N4 nanosheets. Benefiting from the synergistic effects of MoS2 and C3N4, the 3D MoS2/2D C3N4 nanocomposite displayed numerous active sites, a 3D mesoporous structure, high conductivity and excellent catalytic activity. The 3D MoS2/2D C3N4-modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE) exhibited a superior electrocatalytic activity toward nitrite oxidation, with a wider linear detection range (0.1-1100 μM), a lower detection limit (LOD) (0.065 μM, S/N = 3), outstanding stability, remarkable reproducibility and strong selectivity. Furthermore, the nitrite EC sensor was successfully applied to detect actual food and environmental samples involving sausage, pickled vegetables, river water and tap water, thus demonstrating the potential of the prepared 3D MoS2/2D C3N4/GCE for food analysis and environmental monitoring.

Abstract
Ferrocene is useful in modern organometallic chemistry due to its versatile applications in material sciences, catalysis, medicinal chemistry, and diagnostic applications. The ferrocene moiety can potentially serve many purposes in therapeutics and diagnostics. In the course of this study, (6-bromo-1-oxohexyl)ferrocene was combined with dimercaptomaleonitrile sodium salt to yield a novel maleonitrile derivative. Subsequently, this compound was subjected to an autocyclotetramerization reaction using the Linstead conditions in order to obtain an octaferrocenyl-substituted magnesium(II) sulfanyl porphyrazine. Following that, both compounds-the maleonitrile derivative and the porphyrazine derivative-were subjected to physicochemical characterization using UV-Vis, ES-TOF, MALDI-TOF, and one-dimensional and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. Moreover, the sulfanyl porphyrazine was subjected to various photophysical studies, including optical absorption and emission measurements, as well as the evaluation of its photochemical properties. Values of singlet oxygen generation quantum yields were obtained in different organic solvents. The electrochemical properties of the synthesized compounds were studied using cyclic voltammetry. According to the electrochemical results, the presence of electron-withdrawing oxohexyl groups attached to ferrocene afforded significantly more positive oxidation potentials of the ferrocene-based redox process up to 0.34 V vs. Fc+/Fc.

Abstract
In the current study, the synthesis of tetra-4-(2-methoxyphenoxy) carboxamide cobalt(II) amide-bridged phthalocyanine (CoTMePhCAPc) is described, as well as its characterization by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), UV-visible, and mass spectroscopy; powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD); thermogravimetric analysis (TGA); scanning electron microscopy (SEM); and electrochemistry. Sensing of nitrite (NO2-) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) simultaneously was done on CoTMePhCAPc with the composite multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-modified glassy carbon electrode (CoTMePhCAPc/MWCNT/GCE) in the range of linear absorption (NO2- and H2O2: CV 50-750, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) 50-750, CA 50-500 nmol L-1), lower detection limit (NO2- and H2O2: CV 10.5 and 12.5, DPV 10.5 and 11.2, CA 6.0 and 5.5 nmol L-1), and sensitivity (NO2- and H2O2: CV 0.379 and 0.529, DPV 0.043 and 0.049, CA 0.033 and 0.040 μA nM-1 cm-2). The composite electrode exhibits improved electrocatalytic behavior compared to modified electrodes for nitrite and H2O2. The CoTMePhCAPc/MWCNT/GCE sensor displays good selectivity even in the presence of an excess of interfering metal ions and biomolecules at the applied potentials of +400 mV (nitrite) and -400 mV (H2O2). Moreover, the fabricated sensor was studied with various phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) (pH 5-9) electrolyte solutions. The unknown H2O2 concentration in blood samples and apple juice and nitrite concentration in drinking water and butter leaf lettuce were all measured using the usual addition method. Docking analysis clearly indicates that the ligand shows excellent inhibition activity toward the three subjected protein molecules.

Abstract
Phthalocyanines and porphyrazines as macrocyclic aza-analogues of well-known porphyrins were deposited on diverse carbon-based nanomaterials and investigated as sensing devices. The extended π-conjugated electron system of these macrocycles influences their ability to create stable hybrid systems with graphene or carbon nanotubes commonly based on π-π stacking interactions. During a 15-year period, the electrodes modified by deposition of these systems have been applied for the determination of diverse analytes, such as food pollutants, heavy metals, catecholamines, thiols, glucose, peroxides, some active pharmaceutical ingredients, and poisonous gases. These procedures have also taken place, on occasion, in the presence of various polymers, ionic liquids, and other moieties. In the review, studies are presented that were performed for sensing purposes, involving azaporphyrins embedded on graphene, graphene oxide or carbon nanotubes (both single and multi-walled ones). Moreover, possible methods of electrode fabrication, limits of detection of each analyte, as well as examples of macrocyclic compounds applied as sensing materials, are critically discussed.

Abstract
The marked rise in criminal activity in society has made a difficult task for forensic scientists who aim to track any crime scene effectively, therefore visualization of latent fingerprints (LFPs) plays an increasingly vital role in forensics. In the present report, a highly sensitive solvatochromism, aggregation-induced emission-based 2-(4-nitrophenyl)-3H-benzocoumarin fluorescent dye (CFD) was fabricated using an ultrasonication protocol. The fluorescence properties of the CFD were analyzed using fluorescence spectrophotometer. The CFD produced a greenish yellow emission in solid and fluid states. An in-depth visualization of LFPs showed detailed ridge patterns under normal and ultraviolet light sources (254 and 365 nm) due to the excellent chemisorption of CFD onto the ridge patterns on the finger. All three types of ridge details were visualized without any background interference when using a simple and quick powder dusting method. Results revealed that, the present fluorescent dye can be used successfully for detection of latent fingerprints (LFPs) on various nonporous substrates surfaces, in organic light-emitting diodes applications (OLEDs), and for electrochemical sensing.

Abstract
An electrochemical sensor was fabricated utilizing ionic liquids possessing cations with long alkyl chains such as trimethyl octadecylammonium and behenyl trimethylammonium and ascorbate anion. The ionic liquids were drop-coated onto the electrode. Thin modifying layers were prepared. Cyclic voltammetric investigations revealed electrostatic interactions between the electrochemical probes and the modified surface, proving that a positive charge was established at the film surface. Hence, negatively charged species such as nitrite can be pre-concentrated on the surface of presented modified electrodes. The fabricated electrodes have been used as a voltammetric sensor for nitrite. Due to the electrostatic accumulation properties of long alkyl cation, the assay exhibits a remarkable improvement in the voltammetric response toward nitrite oxidation. The influence of pH on the electrode response was thoroughly investigated, and the mechanism of the electrode was established. The developed sensor showed a linear electrochemical response in the range 1.0–50 μM with a detection limit of 0.1 μM. The electrode revealed good storage stability, reproducibility, and anti-interference ability. The determination of nitrite performed in curing salts brought satisfactory results. ![]()

Abstract
Nitrite, widely found in the environment and the food industry, poses a great threat to human health because of its potential toxicity, and its detection is highly important. We report that a MoN nanosheet array on carbon cloth (MoN NA/CC) behaves as an efficient catalyst for nitrite reduction in neutral solution. As a nitrite sensor, this MoN NA/CC offers a wide linear range from 1 μM to 5 mM and a low detection limit of 3 nM (S/N = 3), with a high sensitivity of 4319 μA mM-1 cm-2 and long-term stability and reproducibility.

Abstract
Excessive uptake of nitrite has been proven to be detrimental to the ecological system and human health. Hence, there is a rising requirement for constructing effective electrochemical sensors to precisely monitor the level of nitrite. In this work, NiFe-layered double hydroxide nanosheet arrays (NiFe-LDH NSAs) have been successfully fabricated on a carbon cloth (CC) substrate via a facile one-pot hydrothermal route. By integrating the collective merits of macroporous CC and NiFe-LDH NSAs such as superior electrical conductivity, striking synergistic effect between the dual active components, enlarged electrochemically active surface area, unique three-dimensional hierarchical porous network characteristics, and fast charge transport and ion diffusion, the proposed NiFe-LDH NSAs/CC architecture can be served as a self-supporting sensor toward nitrite detection. As a consequence, the resulting NiFe-LDH NSAs/CC electrode demonstrates superior nitrite sensing characteristics, accompanied by broad linear range (5-1000 μM), quick response rate (ca. 3 s), ultralow detection limit (0.02 μM), and high sensitivity (803.6 μA·mM-1·cm-2). Meanwhile, the electrochemical sensor possesses timeless stability, good reproducibility, and strong anti-interference feature. Importantly, the resulting sensor can determine nitrite level in tap and lake water with high recoveries, suggesting its feasibility for practical applications. These findings show that the obtained NiFe-LDH NSAs/CC electrode holds great prospect in highly sensitive and specific detection of nitrite.

Abstract
The influence of polymer composition on the sensitivity towards nitrite (NO2-) and nitric oxide (NO) of a series of 19 polymeric hydrogel films has been studied. The polymers, based on the hydrophilic monomer 2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate (HEMA), are able to encapsulate the colorimetric indicator 1,2-diaminoanthraquinone (DAQ) and to respond to NO2- and NO by visual changes. In the case of nitrite, the calculated limits of detection (LOD) for two of the polymeric sensors (10 μM) are very close to the sensitivity estimated for free DAQ in solution (LOD 5 μM), but with the advantage of a solid supported sensor with the format of a disposable test-strip made with affordable starting chemicals. The results are interpreted taking into account the nature and proportions of monomers and cross-linkers used for the synthesis of polymers. Key factors for obtaining sensitive materials are the hydrophilic character of the film along with the utilization of low levels of cross-linker and the use of an acidic monomer, like acrylic acid, as a building block.

Abstract
A flexible and free-standing graphene-based hybrid paper was successfully fabricated by successive applications of vacuum filtration and electropolymerization. First, a suspension including graphene oxide (GO) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) was prepared, and GO/AgNPs paper was obtained by vacuum-filtration of this suspension through a membrane. This GO/AgNPs paper was transformed to rGO/AgNPs paper by using both chemical reduction with HI and thermal annealing procedures. rGO/AgNPs/poly(PyY) hybrid paper electrode was formed by electropolymerization of Pyronin Y (PyY) on rGO/AgNPs paper electrode from a PyY monomer-containing (pH 1.0) solution. Structural, chemical, and morphological characterization of this hybrid paper was carried out by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, infrared spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, four-point probe conductivity measurement, and cyclic voltammetry techniques. Electrooxidation of nitrite on rGO/AgNPs/poly(PyY) hybrid paper electrode has been achieved at 860 mV with a linear range of 0.1-1000 μM, sensitivity of 13.5 μAμM(-1)cm(-2), and a detection limit of 0.012 μM. Amperometry studies have shown that the hybrid paper electrode is suitable for amperometric determination of nitrite in both standard laboratory samples and real samples. Moreover, this paper electrode selectively detects nitrite even in the presence of 100-fold common ions and exhibits an excellent operational stability and good flexibility.

Abstract
For the first time, high-surface-area (approximately 1465 m2 g−1), highly porous and heteroatom-enriched activated carbon (HAC) was prepared from banana stems (Musa paradisiaca, Family: Musaceae) at different carbonization temperatures of 700, 800 and 900°C (HAC) using a simple and eco-friendly method. The amounts of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulfur in the HAC are 61.12, 2.567, 0.4315, and 0.349%, respectively. Using X-ray diffraction (XRD), CHNS elemental analysis, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Raman spectroscopy, the prepared activated carbon appears amorphous and disordered in nature. Here, we used HAC for an electrochemical application of nitrite (NO2−) sensor to control the environmental pollution. In addition, HAC exhibits noteworthy performance for the highly sensitive determination of nitrite. The limit of detection (LODs) of the nitrite sensor at HAC-modified GCE is 0.07 μM. In addition, the proposed method was applied to determine nitrite in various water samples with acceptable results.
