Abstract
A sustainable management of carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) to synthesize a series of high surface area (SABET of 563-1553 m2 g-1) microporous polymeric adsorbents is reported. The products with high yield (>90%) were obtained within only 30 min at a low temperature of 50 °C using a microwave-assisted approach with 400 W microwave power followed by 30 min of ageing by raising the temperature to 80 °C. The synthesized adsorbents are used for removing another category of carcinogenic pollutants i.e., polycyclic aromatic sulphur heterocycles (PASHs) from model and real fuels. Adsorptive desulphurization experiment in batch mode could reduce the sulphur from high concentrated model (100 ppm) and real (102 ppm) fuels to 8 ppm and 45 ppm respectively. Similarly, desulphurization of model and real fuels with ultralow sulphur concentrations of 10 and 9 ppm, respectively, reduced the final concentration of sulphur to 0.2 and 3 ppm, respectively. Adsorption isotherms, kinetics, and thermodynamic studies have been conducted using batch mode experiments. Adsorptive desulphurization using fixed bed column studies show the breakthrough capacities of 18.6 and 8.2 mgS g-1, for the same high concentrated model and real fuels, respectively. The breakthrough capacities of 1.1 and 0.6 mgS g-1 are estimated for the ultralow sulphur model and real fuels, respectively. The adsorption mechanism, based on the spectroscopic analysis (FTIR and XPS) demonstrates the role of π-π interactions between the adsorbate and adsorbent. The adsorptive desulphurization studies of model and real fuels from batch to fixed bed column mode would offer an in-depth understanding to demonstrate the lab-scale findings for industrial applications. Thus, the present sustainable strategy could manage two classes of carcinogenic petrochemical pollutants, PAHs and PASHs, simultaneously.

Abstract
The last 20 years have seen many publications investigating porous solids for gas adsorption and separation. The abundance of adsorbent materials (this work identifies 1608 materials for CO2 /N2 separation alone) provides a challenge to obtaining a comprehensive view of the field, identifying leading design strategies, and selecting materials for process modeling. In 2021, the empirical bound visualization technique was applied, analogous to the Robeson upper bound from membrane science, to alkane/alkene adsorbents. These bound visualizations reveal that adsorbent materials are limited by design trade-offs between capacity, selectivity, and heat of adsorption. The current work applies the bound visualization to adsorbents for a wider range of gas pairs, including CO2 , N2 , CH4 , H2 , Xe, O2 , and Kr. How this visual tool can identify leading materials and place new material discoveries in the context of the wider field is presented. The most promising current strategies for breaking design trade-offs are discussed, along with reproducibility of published adsorption literature, and the limitations of bound visualizations. It is hoped that this work inspires new materials that push the bounds of traditional trade-offs while also considering practical aspects critical to the use of materials on an industrial scale such as cost, stability, and sustainability.

Abstract
Heterocyclic systems are now considered to be an integral part of material chemistry. Thiophene, selenophene, furan, pyrrole, carbazole, triazine and others are some such examples worth mentioning. 2,4,6-Tri(thiophen-2-yl)-1,3,5-triazine is a C3h -symmetric system with thiophene as the donor unit and s-triazine as the acceptor unit. This review gives an insight into the advances made in the thienyl-triazine chemistry over the past two to three decades. The synthetic pathways for arriving at this system and all its important derivatives are provided. The major focus is on the materials synthesized using the thienyl-triazine system, including star molecules, linear and hyperbranched polymers, porous materials and their diverse applications. This review will play a catalytic role for new dimensions to be explored in thienyl-triazine chemistry.

Abstract
In this paper, we report the design, synthesis, and characterization of a series of hyper-cross-linked polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs), with high CO2 uptake and good CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 selectivity, which makes them competitive for carbon capture and biogas upgrading. The starting hydrocarbon polymers' backbones were functionalized with groups such as -NO2, -NH2, and -HSO3, with the aim of tuning their adsorption selectivity toward CO2 over nitrogen and methane. This led to a significant improvement in the performance in the potential separation of these gases. All polymers were characterized via Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and 13C solid-state NMR to confirm their molecular structures and isothermal gas adsorption to assess their porosity, pore size distribution, and selectivity. The insertion of the functional groups resulted in an overall decrease in the porosity of the starting polymers, which was compensated with an improvement in the final CO2 uptake and selectivity over the chosen gases. The best uptakes were achieved with the sulfonated polymers, which reached up to 298 mg g-1 (6.77 mmol g-1), whereas the best CO2/N2 selectivities were recorded by the aminated polymers, which reached 26.5. Regarding CH4, the most interesting selectivities over CO2 were also obtained with the aminated PIMs, with values up to 8.6. The reason for the improvements was ascribed to a synergetic contribution of porosity, choice of the functional group, and optimal isosteric heat of adsorption of the materials.

Abstract
Hyper-crosslinked polymers (HCPs) have been produced by the Friedel-Crafts reaction using anthracene, benzene, carbazole or dibenzothiophene as precursors and dimethoxymethane as crosslinker, and the effect of graphene oxide (GO) addition has been studied. The resulting HCPs were highly microporous with BET areas (ABET) between 590 and 1120 m2g-1. The benzene-derived HCP (B1FeM2) and the corresponding composite with GO (B1FM2-GO) exhibited the highest ABET and were selected to study their hydrogen adsorption capacities in the pressure range of 0.1 - 14 MPa at 77 K. The maximum H2 excess uptake was 2.1 and 2.0 wt% for B1FeM2 and B1FeM2-GO, respectively, at 4 MPa and 77 K. The addition of GO reduced the specific surface area but increased the density of the resultant HCP-GO composites, which is beneficial for practical applications and proves that materials giving higher gravimetric storage capacities are not necessarily those that offer higher volumetric capacities. H2 adsorption-desorption cycles up to 14 MPa showed irreversible deformation of both HCP and HCP-GO materials, which calls into question their application for hydrogen adsorption at pressures above 4 MPa.

Abstract
Tuning the selective sorption features of microporous organic networks is of great importance for subsequent applications in gas uptake and hiding, while it is more attractive in terms of being both time and cost effective to realize these optimizations without using functional groups in the core and linker. “Knitting” is one of the easiest and most used method to obtain a broad scope of hyper-crosslinked polymers on a large scale from aromatic structures that do not contain functional groups for polymerization. By the use of Knitting method, a hypercrosslinked covalent ultramicroporous organic polymer was obtained via stepwise process from using triazatruxene (TAT) as core -a planar indole trimer- through anhydrous FeCl3 catalyzed Friedel–Crafts alkylation using dimethoxybenzene as a linker. The resulting microporous polymer, namely TATHCCP was completely identified by analytical and spectral techniques after examined for gas properties (CO2, CH4, O2, CO, and H2) and selectivity (CO2/N2, CO2/O2, for CO2/CO and CO2/CH4) up to 1 bar and increased temperatures (273 K, 296 K and 320 K). Although it has a relatively low (Brunauer–Emmett–Teller) BET specific surface area around 557 m2/g, it was seen to have a high CO2 capture capacity approaching 10% wt. at 273 K. In accordance with (ideal adsorbed solution theory) IAST computations, it was revealed that interesting selectivity features hitting up to 60 for CO2/N2, 45 for CO2/O2, 35 for CO2/CO, 13 for CO2/CH4 at lower temperatures revealed that the material has much better selectivity values than many HCP (hyper-crosslinked polymer) derivatives in the literature even from its most similar analog dimethoxymethane derivative TATHCP, which has a surface area of 950 m2/g.

Abstract
Among the various carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, the direct air capture (DAC) of CO2 by engineered chemical reactions on suitable adsorbents has attained more attention in recent times. Guanidine (G) is one of such promising adsorbent molecules for CO2 capture. Recently Lee et al. (Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys., 2015, 17, 10925-10933) reported an interaction energy (ΔE) of -5.5 kcal mol-1 for the GCO2 complex at the CCSD(T)/CBS level, which was one of the best non-covalent interactions observed for CO2 among several functional molecules. Here we show that the non-covalent GCO2 complex can transform to a strongly interacting G-CO2 covalent complex under the influence of multiple molecules of G and CO2. The study, conducted at M06-2X/6-311++G** level density functional theory, shows ΔE = -5.7 kcal mol-1 for GCO2 with an NC distance of 2.688 Å while almost a five-fold increase in ΔE (-27.5 kcal mol-1) is observed for the (G-CO2)8 cluster wherein the N-C distance is 1.444 Å. All the (G-CO2)n clusters (n = 2-10) show a strong N-CO2 covalent interaction with the N-C distance gradually decreasing from 1.479 Å for n = 2 to 1.444 Å for n = 8 ≅ 9, 10. The N-CO2 bonding gives (G+)-(CO2-) zwitterion character for G-CO2 and the charge-separated units preferred a cyclic arrangement in (G-CO2)n clusters due to the support of three strong intermolecular OHN hydrogen bonds from every CO2. The OHN interaction is also enhanced with an increase in the size of the cluster up to n = 8. The high ΔE is attributed to the large cooperativity associated with the N-CO2 and OHN interactions. The quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) analysis confirms the nature and strength of such interactions, and finds that the total interaction energy is directly related to the sum of the electron density at the bond critical points of N-CO2 and OHN interactions. Further, molecular electrostatic potential analysis shows that the cyclic cluster is stabilized due to the delocalization of charges accumulated on the (G+)-(CO2-) zwitterion via multiple OHN interactions. The cyclic (G-CO2)n cluster formation is a highly exergonic process, which reveals the high CO2 adsorption capability of guanidine.

Abstract
With the reported CO2 activation for the oxidation of benzene to phenol (-ENE → -OL) by the graphitic carbon nitride g-C3N4 (CN) via an artificial photosynthetic route as inspiration, high-valent actinyls (AnmO2)n+ (An = U, Np, Pu; m = VI, V; n = 2, 1) have been introduced for its further modification. Our calculations indicate thermodynamic spontaneity in the feasibility of g-C3N4-(AnmO2)n+ (CN-Anm) formation. The magnificent structural and electronic properties of CN-Anm are utilized for CO2 activation in terms of the rarely studied -ENE → -OL conversion. The calculated free energies show that most steps of the catalytic cycle are favored by CN-Anm complexes. The first step (carbamate formation) is slightly endothermic in all cases, where CN-U is 0.51 eV higher than CN and CN-Pu is -0.01 eV lower. All benzene addition reactions release energy, with that for CN-U being the lowest. The phenolate formation is favored by some actinyl complexes over CN, and CN-U is only 0.23 eV higher. The phenol release (resulting in formamide complexes) and CO desorption are exothermic for all CN-Anm. The overall process suggests the improved catalytic performance of actinyl-modified CN materials, and the slightly depleted uranyl-carbon nitride could be one of the promising catalysts.

Abstract
To systematically explore the effects of the synthesis conditions on the porosity of hyper-cross-linked polymers (HCPs), a series of 9-phenylcarbazole (9-PCz) HCPs (P1-P11) has been made by changing the molar ratio of cross-linker to monomer, the reaction temperature T 1, the used amount of catalyst and the concentration of reactants. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was utilized to characterize the structure of the obtained polymers. The TG analysis of the HCPs showed good thermal stability. More importantly, a comparative study on the porosity revealed that: the molar ratio of cross-linker to monomer was the main influence factor of the BET specific surface area. Increasing the reaction temperature T 1 or changing the used amount of catalyst could improve the total pore volume greatly but sacrificed a part of the BET specific surface area. Fortunately changing the concentration of reactants could remedy this situation. Slightly changing the concentration of reactants could simultaneously obtain a high surface area and a high total pore volume. The BET specific surface areas of P3 was up to 769 m2 g-1 with narrow pore size distribution and the CO2 adsorption capacity of P11 was up to 52.4 cm3 g-1 (273 K/1.00 bar).

Abstract
Using a first-principle methodology, we investigate the stable structures of the nonreactive and reactive clusters formed between Zn2+-triazoles ([Zn2+-Tz]) clusters and CO2 and/or H2O. In sum, we characterized two modes of bonding of [Zn2+-Tz] with CO2/H2O: the interaction is established through (i) a covalent bond between Zn2+ of [Zn2+-Tz] and oxygen atoms of CO2 or H2O and (ii) hydrogen bonds through N-H or C-H of [Zn2+-Tz] and oxygen atoms of H2O or CO2, N-H···O. We also identified intramolecular proton transfer processes induced by complexation. Indeed, water drastically changes the shape of the energy profiles of the tautomeric phenomena through strong lowering of the potential barriers to tautomerism. The comparison to [Zn2+-Im] subunits formed with Zn2+ and imidazole shows that the efficiency of Tz-based compounds for CO2 capture and uptake is due to the incorporation of more accessible nitrogen donor sites in Tzs compared to imidazoles. Since [Zn2+-Tz] clusters are subunits of an organometallic nanoporous materials and Zn-proteins, our data are useful for deriving force fields for macromolecular simulations of these materials. Our work also suggests the consideration of traces of water to better model the CO2 sequestration and reactivity on macromolecular entities such as pores or active sites.

Abstract
We have generated Lennard-Jones potentials for the interaction between CX2 (X = O, S) and 11 nitrogen-doped benzene derivatives in different orientations at the M06-2X/def2-tzvpp level as tools to parametrize accurate force fields and to better understand the interaction of these greenhouse gases with heterocyclic building blocks used in the design of capture and detection systems. We find that the most favorable interactions are found between the carbon in CO2 and the main heterocycle in the ring in a parallel orientation, whereas the preferred interaction mode of CS2 is established between sulfur and the π density of the aromatic ring. The fact that the preferences for interaction sites and orientations of CO2 and CS2 are most of the times opposite helps in terms of ensuring the selectivity of these systems in front of these two isoelectronic compounds. The existence of very good linear correlations ( R2 values very close to one) between the number of nitrogen atoms in the heterocyclic ring and the depth of the interaction potential wells opens the door to the use of these results in generating coarse-grained potentials or models with predictive power for use in the design of larger systems.

Abstract
Advanced porous organic materials with high gas storage capacity and high selectivity have been rapidly developed for CO2 adsorbents in the recent decade, due to extremely high surface area and nanoscale pore size. Here, novel amino acids-incorporated solid adsorbents based on porous hypercrosslinked polymers were fabricated by a dispersion polymerization of an aromatic monomer and quaternary ammonium salt comonomer, subsequently a hypercrosslinked reaction and an ion-exchange step. The developed adsorbents presented mesopores structure with BET surface area up to 864 m2/g and an extremely high CO2 capturing capacity up to 60.7 wt% (13.8 mmol/g) at 273 K/1 bar. The results also showed the adsorbent had an excellent recycling ability over repetitive adsorption-desorption cycles. All the results suggest that the amino acids-modified porous sorbents are promising CO2 sorbents that can meet the challenges of the current CO2 capture and storage technology.

Abstract
A novel tetraphenylethylene-based ladder network (MP1) made by polycondensation reaction from 4,4',4″,4‴-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)tetrakis(benzene-1,2-diol) and 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroterephthalonitrile and its COOH-functionalized analogue (MP2) were synthesized for the first time. Their structures were confirmed by solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (13C cross-polarization magic angle spinning), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and elementary analysis. MP1 exhibited a high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area (1020 m2 g-1), whereas the COOH-functionalized MP2 showed a much smaller surface area (150 m2 g-1) but displayed a more uniform pore size distribution. Because of the high density of nitrile groups in the network polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIMs) and strong interaction with quadrupole CO2 molecules, MP1 exhibited a high CO2 adsorption capacity of 4.2 mmol g-1 at 273 K, combined with an isosteric heat of adsorption (Q st) of 29.6 kJ mol-1. The COOH-functionalized MP2 showed higher Q st of 34.2 kJ mol-1 coupled with a modest CO2 adsorption capacity of 2.2 mmol g-1. Both network PIMs displayed high theoretical ideal adsorbed solution theory CO2/N2 selectivities (51 and 94 at 273 K vs 34 and 84 at 298 K for MP1 and MP2, respectively). The high selectivities of MP1 and MP2 were confirmed by experimental column breakthrough experiments with CO2/N2 selectivity values of 23 and 45, respectively. Besides the promising CO2 capture and CO2/N2 selectivity properties, MP1 also demonstrated high sorption capacity for toxic volatile organic vapors. At 298 K and a relative pressure of 0.95, benzene and toluene sorption uptakes reached 765 and 1041 mg g-1, respectively. Moreover, MP1 also demonstrated some potential for adsorptive separation of xylene isomers with adsorptive selectivity of 1.75 for m-xylene/o-xylene.

Abstract
A new generation of porous polymer networks has been obtained in quantitative yield by reacting two rigid trifunctional aromatic monomers (1,3,5-triphenylbenzene and triptycene) with two ketones having electron-withdrawing groups (trifluoroacetophenone and isatin) in superacidic media. The resulting amorphous networks are microporous materials, with moderate Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface areas (from 580 to 790 m2 g-1), and have high thermal stability. In particular, isatin yields networks with a very high narrow microporosity contribution, 82% for triptycene and 64% for 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene. The existence of favorable interactions between lactams and CO2 molecules has been stated. The materials show excellent CO2 uptakes (up to 207 mg g-1 at 0 °C/1 bar) and can be regenerated by vacuum, without heating. Under postcombustion conditions, their CO2/N2 selectivities are comparable to those of other organic porous networks. Because of the easily scalable synthetic method and their favorable characteristics, these materials are very promising as industrial adsorbents.

Abstract
In this paper, a series of bisbenzimidazole-functionalized highly porous covalent triazine frameworks (CTF-BIBs) has been constructed from a new organic building block, 1,4-bis(5-cyano-1 H-benzimidazole-2-yl)benzene, via ionothermal polymerization. The physical porosity and gas adsorption properties of these CTF-BIBs were characterized, and the resulting CTF-BIBs exhibit significantly high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface areas (1636-2088 m2 g-1) and notable CO2 uptakes (86.4-97.6 cm3 g-1 at 273 K and 1 bar; 48.5-56.8 cm3 g-1 at 298 K and 1 bar). More importantly, these CTF-BIBs exhibit excellent selective separation abilities for CO2/N2, CO2/CH4, C2H6/CH4, and C3H8/CH4, particularly for equimolar mixtures C3H8/CH4 (386.6 for CTF-BIB-1 under 1 bar and 298 K). Furthermore, transient breakthrough simulations were carried out for equimolar CO2/C3H8/C2H6/CH4 mixtures, and CTF-BIBs display good separation performance in industrial fixed bed adsorbers. These results clearly demonstrate that the synthesized CTF-BIBs may serve as potential materials for CO2 capture and adsorptive separation for small hydrocarbons.

Abstract
The separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) from hydrocarbons is a critical process for the production of clean energy and high-purity chemicals. Adsorption based on molecular sieving is an energy-saving separation process; however, most of molecular sieves with narrow and straight pore channels exhibit low CO2 uptake capacity. Here, we report that a twofold interpenetrated copper coordination network with a consecutive pocket-like pore structure, namely, SIFSIX-14-Cu-i (SIFSIX = hexafluorosilicate, 14 = 4,4'-azopyridine, i = interpenetrated) is a remarkable CO2/CH4 molecular sieving adsorbent which completely blocks the larger CH4 molecule with unprecedented selectivity, whereas it has excellent CO2 uptake (172.7 cm3/cm3) under the ambient condition. The exceptional separation performance of SIFSIX-14-Cu-i is attributed to its unique pore shape and functional pore surface, which combine a contracted pore window (3.4 Å) and a relatively large pore cavity decorated with high density of inorganic anions. Dispersion-corrected density functional theory calculation and neutron powder diffraction were performed to understand the CO2 binding sites. The practical feasibility of SIFSIX-14-Cu-i for CO2/CH4 mixtures separation was validated by experimental breakthrough tests. This study not only demonstrates the great potential of SIFSIX-14-Cu-i for CO2 separation but also provides important clues for other gas separations.

Abstract
The impact of climate change in the face of steady or increasing emissions has made the capture and storage of CO2 a priority issue. Supramolecular chemistry is one of the tools that can be used for this task, due to the possibility of tuning intermolecular interactions for the capture of this gas in a selective and efficient way. In this context, this work presents a novel approach for the capture of CO2 based on n-cycloparaphenylenes ([n]-CPPs) doped with nitrogen atoms. This is the first time that the potential of these structures for the capture of polluting gases has been evaluated. Among all the structures analysed, the one yielding the best results (complexation energy of -32.80 kJ mol-1) contains 4 nitrogen atoms per monomer. The topology of the electron density of the host-guest complex and the nature of its non-covalent interactions have been analyzed in this work in order to explain this high binding energy and identify potential structural modifications to improve it. The capability of this system to be used as a sensing device for CO2 using vibrational spectroscopy is also explored.

Abstract
At present, we investigate the structures, the stability, the bonding and the spectroscopy of the Zn2+-triazole complexes (Zn2+-Tz), which are subunits of triazolate based porous materials and Zn-enzymes. This theoretical work is performed using ab initio methods and density functional theory (DFT) where dispersion correction is included. Through these benchmarks, we establish the ability and reliability of M05-2X+D3 and PBE0+D3 functionals for the correct description of Zn2+-Tz bond since these DFTs lead to close agreement with post Hartree-Fock methods. Therefore, M05-2X+D3 and PBE0+D3 functionals are recommended for the characterization of larger organometallic complexes formed by Zn and N-rich linkers. For Zn2+-Tz, we found two stable σ-type complexes: (i) a planar structure where Zn2+ links to unprotonated nitrogen and (ii) an out-of-plane cluster where carbon interacts with Zn2+. The most stable isomers consist on a coordinated covalent bond between the lone pair of unprotonated nitrogen and the vacant 4s orbital of Zn2+. The roles of covalent interactions within these complexes are discussed after vibrational, NBO, NPA charges and orbital analyses. The bonding is dominated by charge transfer from Zn2+ to Tz and intramolecular charge transfer, which plays a vital role for the catalytic activity of these complexes. These findings are important to understand, at the microscopic level, the structure and the bonding within triazolate based macromolecular porous materials and Zn-enzymes.

Abstract
Hypercrosslinked polymers (HCPs) are a series of permanent microporous polymer materials initially reported by Davankov, and have received an increasing level of research interest. In recent years, HCPs have experienced rapid growth due to their remarkable advantages such as diverse synthetic methods, easy functionalization, high surface area, low cost reagents and mild operating conditions. Judicious selection of monomers, appropriate length crosslinkers and optimized reaction conditions yielded a well-developed polymer framework with an adjusted porous topology. Post fabrication of the as developed network facilitates the incorporation of various chemical functionalities that may lead to interesting properties and enhance the selection toward a specific application. To date, numerous HCPs have been prepared by post-crosslinking polystyrene-based precursors, one-step self-polycondensation or external crosslinking strategies. The advent of these methodologies has prompted researchers to construct well-defined porous polymer networks with customized micromorphology and functionalities. In this review, we describe not only the basic synthetic principles and strategies of HCPs, but also the advancements in the structural and morphological study as well as the frontiers of potential applications in energy and environmental fields such as gas storage, carbon capture, removal of pollutants, molecular separation, catalysis, drug delivery, sensing etc.
