Abstract
Solution-processed hybrid solar cells have been well developed in the last twenty years due to the advantages of low cost, low material-consuming and simple fabricating technology. However, the performance, stability and film quality of hybrid solar cells need to be further improved for future commercial application (with a lifetime up to 20 years and power conversion efficiency higher than 15%). By combining the merits of organic polymers and nanocrystals (NC), the reasonable design of interface engineering and device architecture, the performance coupled with stability of hybrid solar cells can be significantly improved. This review gives a brief conclusive introduction to the progress on solution-processed organic/inorganic semiconductor hybrid solar cells, including a summary of the development of hybrid solar cells in recent years, the strategy of hybrid solar cells with different structures and the incorporation of new organic hole transport materials with new insight into device processing for high efficiency. This paper also puts forward some suggestions and guidance for the future development of high-performance NC-based photovoltaics.

Abstract
Water soluble nanocrystals (NCs) are promising materials in aqueous-processed solar cells because of their high extinction coefficient, low-cost, and favorable photoelectric characteristics. However, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of the present aqueous-processed NC solar cells is restricted by the short depletion region of the active layer and limited Fermi level offset between NCs and the electron transport layer. Herein, these issues are effectively addressed by preparing Cdx Zn1- x Te NCs capped with 2-aminoethanethiol hydrochloride. The introduction of Zn2+ into CdTe NCs widens the Fermi level offset from 0.68 to 0.74 eV, lengthens the depletion region from 130 to 137 nm, and hence brings obvious improvement in the open circuit voltage (Voc ) and fill factor. Especially, the depletion region is successfully tuned from 137 to 171 nm, and even lengthened to a record thickness of 200 nm based on aqueous-processed solar cells. As a result, a champion thickness ratio (74%) of depletion region to active layer (200/270 nm) is achieved. A champion PCE of 5.96% and short-circuit current (Jsc ) of 21.2 mA cm-2 are achieved among aqueous-processed NC solar cells. This work provides a simple way to prepare polynary NCs and highlights a prospective method to develop more efficient and cost-effective solution-processed environment friendly solar cells.

Abstract
Due to their low cost and high efficiency, polymer/nanocrystal hybrid solar cells (HSCs) have attracted much attention in recent years. In this work, water-soluble hybrid materials consisting of amphiphilic block copolymers (ABCPs) and cadmium telluride nanocrystals (CdTe NCs) were used as the active layer to fabricate the HSCs via aqueous processing. The ABCPs composed of poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) self-assembled into ordered nanostructured micelles which then transformed to nanowires by comicellization with P3HT additives. Furthermore, after annealing, the hybrid materials formed an interpenetrating network which resulted in a maximum power conversion efficiency of 4.8% in the HSCs. The properties of the hybrid materials and the film morphology were studied and correlated to the device performance. The results illustrate how the inclusion of ABCPs for directed assembly and homo-P3HT for charge transport and light absorption improves device performance. The aqueous-processed HSCs based on the ABCPs and NCs offer an effective method for the fabrication of efficient solar cells.

Abstract
A novel kind of hybrid solar cell (HSC) was developed by introducing water-soluble insulating polymer poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) into nanocrystals (NCs), which revealed that the most frequently used conjugated polymer could be replaced by an insulating one. It was realized by strategically taking advantage of the characteristic of decomposition for the polymer at annealing temperature, and it was interesting to discover that partial decomposition of PVA left behind plenty of pits on the surfaces of CdTe NC films, enlarging surface contact area between CdTe NCs and subsequently evaporated MoO3. Moreover, the residual annealed PVA filled in the voids among spherical CdTe NCs, which led to the decrease of leakage current. An improved shunt resistance (increased by ∼80%) was achieved, indicating the charge-carrier recombination was effectively overcome. As a result, the new HSCs were endowed with increased Voc, fill factor, and power conversion efficiency compared with the pure NC device. This approach can be applied to other insulating polymers (e.g., PVP) with advantages in synthesis, type, economy, stability, and so on, providing a novel universal cost-effective way to achieve higher photovoltaic performance.

Abstract
Aqueous processed nanocrystal (NC) solar cells are attractive due to their environmental friendliness and cost effectiveness. Controlling the bandgap of absorbing layers is critical for achieving high efficiency for single and multijunction solar cells. Herein, we tune the bandgap of CdTe through the incorporation of Se via aqueous process. The photovoltaic performance of aqueous CdSexTe1-x NCs is systematically investigated, and the impacts of charge generation, transport, and injection on device performance for different compositions are deeply discussed. We discover that the performance degrades with the increasing Se content from CdTe to CdSe. This is mainly ascribed to the lower conduction band (CB) of CdSexTe1-x with higher Se content, which reduces the driving force for electron injection into TiO2. Finally, the performance is improved by mixing CdSexTe1-x NCs with conjugated polymer poly(p-phenylenevinylene) (PPV), and power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 3.35% is achieved based on ternary NCs. This work may provide some information to further optimize the aqueous-processed NC and hybrid solar cells.

Abstract
Without using any environmentally hazardous organic solution, we fabricated hybrid solar cells (HSCs) based on the aqueous-solution-processed poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) dots and CdTe nanocrystals (NCs). As a novel aqueous donor material, the P3HT dots are prepared through a reprecipitation method and present an average diameter of 2.09 nm. When the P3HT dots are mixed with the aqueous CdTe NCs, the dependence of the device performance on the donor-acceptor ratio shows that the optimized ratio is 1:24. Specifically, the dependence of the device performance on the active-layer thermal annealing conditions is investigated. As a result, the optimized annealing temperature is 265 °C, and the incorporation of P3HT dots as donor materials successfully reduced the annealing time from 1 h to 10 min. In addition, the transmission electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy measurements demonstrate that the size of the CdTe NCs increased as the annealing time increased, and the annealing process facilitates the formation of a smoother interpenetrating network in the active layer. Therefore, charge separation and transport in the P3HT dots:CdTe NCs layer are more efficient. Eventually, the P3HT dots:CdTe NCs solar cells achieved 4.32% power conversion efficiency. The polymer dots and CdTe NCs based aqueous-solution-processed HSCs provide an effective way to avoid a long-time thermal annealing process of the P3HT dots:CdTe NCs layer and largely broaden the donor materials for aqueous HSCs.

Abstract
Achieving superior solar cell performance based on the colloidal nanocrystals remains challenging due to their complex surface composition. Much attention has been devoted to the development of effective surface modification strategies to enhance electronic coupling between the nanocrystals to promote charge carrier transport. Herein, we aim to attach benzenedithiol ligands onto the surface of CdSe nanocrystals in the "face-on" geometry to minimize the nanocrystal-nanocrystal or polymer-nanocrystal distance. Furthermore, the "electroactive" π-orbitals of the benzenedithiol are expected to further enhance the electronic coupling, which facilitates charge carrier dissociation and transport. The electron mobility of CdSe QD films was improved 20 times by tuning the ligand orientation, and high performance poly[2,6-(4,4-bis(2-ethylhexyl)-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b;3,4-b']-dithiophene)-alt-4,7-(2,1,3-benzothiadiazole)] (PCPDTBT):CdSe nanocrystal hybrid solar cells were also achieved, showing a highest power conversion efficiency of 4.18%. This research could open up a new pathway to improve further the performance of colloidal nanocrystal based solar cells.
