Abstract
Reaction of Co(NCS)2 with 4-bromopyridine leads to the formation of discrete complexes with the composition Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)4·(CH3CN)0.67 (1), Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2(H2O)2 (2), Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2(CH3OH)2 (3) and Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2(CH3CN)2 (4). Upon heating compounds 2 and 4 transform into a crystalline product with the composition Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2 (5-I) that also can easily be obtained from solution. In this compound, the Co cations are linked by single μ-1,3-bridging thiocyanate anions into layers. Thermal decomposition of 3 leads to a second isomer (5-II), which is thermodynamically metastable and can also be synthesized from solution under kinetic control. In contrast to 5-I, the Co cations are linked by pairs of anionic ligands into linear chains. The magnetic exchange is very weak in 5-I, but much stronger and ferromagnetic along the linear chains in 5-II. AF ordering in 5-II is reached at 3.05 K, and magnetic relaxation is observed at the metamagnetic transition with an Arrhenius barrier of 17.1(3) cm-1. Ab initio computational studies reveal a different type of magnetic anisotropy to be present in the two crystallographically - independent Co centers in 5-II.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of a series of cyclometallated complexes of Pd(ii) incorporating the mixed donor ligand 1-oxa-4,7-dithiacyclononane ([9]aneS2O) are presented in this study. Complexes of the form [Pd(C^N)([9]aneS2O)](PF6) (C^N = 2-phenylpyridine (ppy) 1b, 4-(2-pyridyl)benzaldehyde (ppyCHO) 2b, 7,8-benzoquinoline (bzq) 3b, 2-benzothienylpyridine (btp) 4b, 2-phenylbenzothiazole (pbt) 5b), were obtained in high-yield from a simple two-step synthetic scheme. All of these complexes were fully characterized by NMR, ESI-MS, IR, combustion analyses, and most (1b, 2b, 4b, 5b) by X-ray crystallography. Solution 1H and 13C NMR studies of [Pd(C^N)([9]aneS2O)](PF6) complexes demonstrate complicated [9]aneS2O behavior at room temperature. Variable temperature NMR reveals dynamic bonding of the [9]aneS2O ligand consistent with the presence of both endodentate and exodentate bonding modes. This is in stark contrast to the related [9]aneS3 (1,4,7-trithiacyclononane) cogeners that demonstrate fluxional endodentate bonding only in solution. X-ray structures reveal only exodenate [9]aneS2O bonding in this series, unlike the related [9]aneS3 complexes that show endodenate bonding with an axial PdS interaction. DFT calculations performed on endo and exo [9]aneS2O bonding forms of 4b, as well as a transition state calculation for interconversion, suggest reasonable access to both bonding forms based on the energy barrier. Natural bond order calculations provide further evidence for a weak axial PdO interaction in the endo form of 4b.

Abstract
The major factors governing template-induced nucleation of molecular crystals are assessed, highlighting applications in pharmaceutical manufacturing and formulation processes where the templating effect is used to promote crystal nucleation and for controlling crystal polymorphism.

Abstract
The impact of substituting Hg(II) for Zn(II) in a thiolate-bridged trinuclear cluster with parallels to a metallothionein metal cluster was investigated. A new solvomorph of [Zn(ZnL)2](ClO4)2 (1) (L = N-(2-pyridylmethyl)-N-(2-(ethylthiolato)-amine) and five solvomorphs of a new compound [Hg(ZnL)2](ClO4)2 (2) were characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography. The interplay of hydrogen bonding and aromatic-packing interactions in producing lamellar, 2D lamellar, and columnar arrangements of complex cations in the crystalline state is discussed. Both variable temperature proton nuclear magnetic resonance and electrospray ion-mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) suggest that the complex ions of 1 and 2 are the predominant solution species at moderate concentrations. ESI-MS was also used to monitor differences in metal ion redistribution as 1 was titrated with Hg(ClO4)2 and [HgL(ClO4)]. These studies document the facile replacement of Zn(II) by Hg(II) with the preservation of the overall structure in thiolate-rich clusters.

Abstract
The three reported phases of the mononuclear macrocyclic Pd(II) complex [PdCl2([9]aneS2O)] [(1); [9]aneS2O = 1-oxa-4,7-dithiacyclononane] were each studied up to pressures exceeding 9 GPa using high-pressure single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The α- and γ-phases both exhibit smooth compression of the unit-cell parameters with third-order Birch-Murnaghan bulk moduli of 14.4 (8) and 7.6 (6) GPa, respectively. Between 6.81 and 6.87 GPa β-[PdCl2([9]aneS2O)] was found to undergo a reversible transition to a phase denoted as β' and characterized by a tripling of the unit-cell volume. Across the phase transition, rearrangement of the conformation of the bound macrocycle at two of the resulting three unique sites gives rise to an extensively disordered structure.
