Abstract
Organoazide rearrangement constitutes versatile synthetic strategies but typically requires an extremely strong acid and/or a high reaction temperature. Our group recently discovered the remarkable accelerating effect of the geminal fluorine substituent that enables the facile rearrangement of azides into imidoyl fluorides without the aid of acid under much milder reaction conditions. The role of geminal fluorine was elucidated by both experimental and computational investigations. This new reactivity led to the development of a practical one-step tandem preparative method for potentially useful and bench-stable imidoyl fluorides from a wide range of structurally diverse geminal chlorofluorides. Our additional efforts to expand the reaction scope regarding the migrating group, halogen, and carbonyl function are described, and the synthetic utility of the imidoyl fluoride products was demonstrated in hopes of promoting the use of this under-appreciated functional group in the synthetic organic community.

Abstract
The trifluoromethyl group is widely recognized for its significant role in the fields of medicinal chemistry and material science due to its unique electronic and steric properties that can alter various physiochemical properties of the parent molecule, such as lipophilicity, acidity, and hydrogen bonding capabilities. Compared to the well-established C-trifluoromethylation, N-trifluoromethylation has received lesser attention. Considering the extensive contribution of nitrogen to drug molecules, it is predicted that constructing N-trifluoromethyl (N-CF3) motifs will be of great significance in pharmaceutical and agrochemical industries. This review is mainly concerned with the synthesis of heterocycles containing this motif. In three-membered heterocycles containing the N-CF3 motif, the existing literature mostly demonstrated the synthetic strategy, as it does for four- and larger-membered heterocycles. Certain structures, such as oxaziridines, could serve as an oxidant or building blocks in organic synthesis. In five-membered heterocycles, it has been reported that N-CF3 azoles showed a higher lipophilicity and a latent increased metabolic stability and Caco-2-permeability compared with their N-CH3 counterparts, illustrating the potential of the N-CF3 motif. Various N-CF3 analogues of drugs or bioactive molecules, such as sildenafil analogue, have been obtained. In general, the N-CF3 motif is developing and has great potential in bioactive molecules or materials. Give the recent development in this motif, it is foreseeable that its synthesis methods and applications will become more and more extensive. In this paper, we present an overview of the synthesis of N-CF3 heterocycles, categorized on the basis of the number of rings (three-, four-, five-, six- and larger-membered heterocycles), and focus on the five-membered heterocycles containing the N-CF3 group.

Abstract
Despite the promising synthetic potential, the utilization of imidoyl fluorides has been hampered by the lack of broadly applicable preparative methods. Herein, bench-stable α-ketoimidoyl fluorides were synthesized from geminal chlorofluorides through tandem azidation/rearrangement under mild conditions. The efficiency was consistently high, regardless of the steric and electronic environments. The synthetic utility of the α-ketoimidoyl fluoride was also demonstrated. Furthermore, the remarkable accelerating effect of the geminal fluorine substituent was identified and rationalized by density functional theory calculation.

Abstract
Although copper-nitrene has been extensively studied as a versatile active species in various transformations, asymmetric reactions involving copper-nitrene have been limited to the aziridination of olefins. Herein, we report the novel copper-nitrene-catalyzed desymmetric oxaziridination reaction of cyclic diketones with alkyl azides and the subsequent rearrangement of the resulting highly active intermediate, which produces a synthetically challenging chiral bicyclic lactam containing a quaternary carbon center. This procedure not only enriches the copper-nitrene-catalyzed asymmetric reactions, but also provides an alternative strategy to address the inherent challenges of catalytic asymmetric Schmidt reactions. This unique reaction could inspire the investigation of novel copper-nitrene-catalyzed asymmetric transformations and their reaction mechanisms.

A one-pot approach
to fluorinated hydroxamic acid, amide, and thioamide
derivatives is reported. The reaction proceeds via an N-perfluoroalkylation
of nitrosoarenes with perfluoroalkanesulfinates, resulting in labile
N-perfluoroalkylated hydroxylamines. By the addition of suitable additives,
a controllable oxy/thiodefluorination of the fluorinated hydroxylamine
intermediates was achieved. The method highlights N-perfluoroalkylated
amines as versatile intermediates for further synthesis.

Abstract
The potential of homogeneous oxidation catalysis employing bromine has remained largely unexplored. We herein show that the combination of a tetraalkylammonium bromide and meta-chloroperbenzoic acid offers a unique catalyst system for the convenient and selective oxidation of saturated C(sp3 )-H bonds upon photochemical initiation with day light. This approach enables remote, intramolecular, position-selective C-H amination as demonstrated for 20 different examples. For the first time, an N-halogenated intermediate was isolated as the active catalyst state in a catalytic Hofmann-Löffler reaction. In addition, an expeditious one-pot synthesis of N-sulfonyl oxaziridines from N-sulfonamides was developed and exemplified for 15 transformations. These pioneering examples provide a change in paradigm for molecular catalysis with bromine.

Abstract
A distinctive N-substituent controlled electrophilic N-transfer of oxaziridines with donor-acceptor cyclopropanes in the presence of MgI2 is reported. Contrary to earlier reports, the oxaziridine having bulkier N-substituents can also give N-transferred product instead of the O-transferred one. Interestingly, the oxaziridines having α-H containing N-substituents lead to the pyrrolidine derivatives through [3 + 2] cycloaddition. A mechanistic reasoning for this divergent reactivity is depicted by density functional theory calculations and validated through energy decomposition analysis.

Abstract
In the field of asymmetric synthesis, the development of new chiral ligands has been regarded as an attractive challenge for decades. Novel chiral ligands can often have a great impact on synthetic protocols. In this context, we are currently interested in the application of 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) as an entirely new class of chiral ligand. To handle this issue, we designed a chiral phen ligand that provides the N,N,O-tridentate coordination of the phen moiety and an additional phenolic hydroxyl group. As phen possesses greater coordination ability with various ions, our chiral phen ligand would be valuable as one of the "privileged" chiral ligands applied to a broad range of metal catalysts and new reactions. This account summarizes the results of the application of the chiral phen ligand to various kinds of metal catalysis.

Abstract
N-Silyloxaziridines were synthesized for the first time. Their tert-butyldiphenylsilyl (TBDPS) derivatives were stable reagents that were prepared on a multigram scale in three steps and in 44% overall yield from the corresponding benzylamines. They were mild electrophilic aminating reagents that reacted at room temperature with diversely substituted primary and secondary amines to produce N-monoalkyl or N,N-dialkyl benzaldehyde hydrazones in 44-87% yield.

Abstract
The highly regio- and chemoselective oxidation of activated C-H bonds has been observed via copper-catalyzed reactions of oxaziridines. The oxidation proceeded with a variety of substrates, primarily comprising allylic and benzylic examples, as well as one example of an otherwise unactivated tertiary C-H bond. The mechanism of the reaction is proposed to involve single-electron transfer to the oxaziridines to generate a copper-bound radical anion, followed by hydrogen atom abstraction and collapse to products, with regeneration of the catalyst by a final single-electron transfer event. The involvement of allylic radical intermediates was supported by a radical-trapping experiment with TEMPO.

Abstract
The first catalytic enantioselective synthesis of oxaziridines is presented. The oxidation of aryl and alkyl aldimines with m-CPBA under organocatalytic conditions using cinchona alkaloid-derived catalysts furnished optically active oxaziridines in good yields and high enantioselectivities (up to 94% ee). Mechanistic investigations indicate a stepwise enantioselective oxidation process.

Abstract
We describe a new oxaziridine-mediated approach to the amination of sp(3)-hybridized C-H bonds. In the presence of a copper(II) catalyst, N-sulfonyl oxaziridines participate in efficient intramolecular cyclization reactions to afford a variety of piperidine and tetrahydroisoquinoline structures. The aminal intermediates provide a convenient functional handle for further elaboration of these structures, demonstrating the utility of this new methodology for the rapid construction of structurally complex nitrogen-containing heterocycles.

Abstract
Substituted benzoxathiazines function as catalysts for the selective hydroxylation of tertiary C-H bonds. Mechanistic studies have revealed an unanticipated disparity between oxaziridine reactivity and catalyst performance and have given way to a new catalyst and an aqueous H(2)O(2) reaction protocol that greatly facilitate such transformations (see scheme).

Abstract
The design, structural characterization, and evaluation of a unique class of 1,2,3-benzoxathiazine-based oxaziridines as potent O-atom transfer agents for catalytic C-H hydroxylation and alkene epoxidation are described. Turnover of this reaction is made possible by employing a diaryl diselenide cocatalyst and urea.H2O2 as the terminal oxidant. Oxidation of saturated hydrocarbons is strongly biased toward 3 degrees C-H bonds even in systems possessing a significantly greater number of methylene groups. In addition, the benzoxathiazine catalyst is effective for epoxidation of terminal and electron-deficient olefins. Collectively, these findings represent an important first step toward the advancement of general methodology for selective C-H oxidation.
