Abstract
Zn-N-C catalysts have garnered attention as potential electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, their intrinsic limitations, including poor activity and a low density of active sites, continue to hinder their electrocatalytic performance. In this study, we have devised a dual-template strategy for the synthesis of Zn, N, S co-doped nanoporous carbon-based catalysts (Zn-N/S-C(S, Z)) with a substantial specific surface area and a graded pore structure. The introduction of S enhances electron localization around the Zn-Nx active centers, facilitating interactions with oxygen-containing substances. The resulting Zn-N/S-C(S, Z) sample exhibits outstanding performance in an alkaline solution, demonstrating a half-wave potential of 0.89 V. This value surpasses that of commercial Pt/C by 40 mV. Furthermore, when combined with RuO2 (Zn-N/S-C(S, Z) + RuO2), the catalyst demonstrates exceptional performance in a Zn-air battery, offering an open-circuit voltage (OCV) of 1.47 V and a peak power density of 290.8 mW cm-2. This study paves the way for the development of highly dispersed and highly active Zn-metal site catalysts, potentially replacing traditional Pt-based catalysts in various electrochemical devices.

Abstract
We report herein the synthesis of four new Pd-PEPPSI complexes with backbone-modified N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands and their application as catalysts in the α-alkylation of ketones with primary alcohols using a borrowing hydrogen process and tandem Suzuki-Miyaura coupling/α-alkylation reactions. Among the synthesized Pd-PEPPSI complexes, complex 2c having 4-methoxyphenyl groups at the 4,5-positions and 4-methoxybenzyl substituents on the N-atoms of imidazole exhibited the highest catalytic activity in the α-alkylation of ketones with primary alcohols (18 examples) with yields reaching up to 95%. Additionally, complex 2c was demonstrated to be an effective catalyst for the tandem Suzuki-Miyaura-coupling/α-alkylation of ketones to give biaryl ketones with high yields. The heterogeneous nature of the present catalytic system was verified by mercury poisoning and hot filtration experiments. Moreover, the formation of NHC-stabilized Pd(0) nanoparticles during the α-alkylation reactions was identified by advanced analytical techniques.

Abstract
Metal nanoparticles have been deeply studied in the last few decades due to their attractive physical and chemical properties, finding a wide range of applications in several fields. Among them, well-defined nano-structures can combine the main advantages of heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysts. Especially, catalyzed multi-step processes for the production of added-value chemicals represent straightforward synthetic methodologies, including tandem and sequential reactions that avoid the purification of intermediate compounds. In particular, palladium- and copper-based nanocatalysts are often applied, becoming a current strategy in the sustainable synthesis of fine chemicals. The rational tailoring of nanosized materials involving both those immobilized on solid supports and liquid phases and their applications in organic synthesis are herein reviewed.

Abstract
A kind of N, P, C, O-containing polymer was easily prepared via microwave heating of phytic acid and thiourea just for 90 s. After impregnation and reduction of H2PdCl4, highly dispersed Pd single atoms/sub-nano clusters loaded on the phytic acid/thiourea polymer (Pd-CNSP) were successfully obtained. Owing to the synergetic effect of the polymer support and Pd, the catalyst Pd-CNSP achieves a great atomic efficiency of Pd species and exhibits an outstanding catalytic ability in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. The k value of the catalyst Pd-CNSP (2.17 min-1 mg-1) is about 19 times higher than that of the commercial Pd/C (5 wt %) catalyst. The turnover frequency value is as high as 848 min-1, which is the highest value reported so far. Pd-CNSP also has good selectivity for the reduction of halogen-substituted (Cl and Br) nitroaromatics. It is expected to be mass-produced and used in other industrial hydrogenation reactions.

Abstract
We prepared a series of ordered mesoporous carbons embedded with different contents of Cu nanoparticles (Cu/OMC-X) and applied them to electrocatalytic synthesis of benzyl methyl carbonate. The materials were characterized by many measurements, which showed that Cu/OMC-X materials maintain highly ordered mesoporous structures with high surface area and highly dispersed Cu nanoparticles. As expected, the materials exhibit good electrocatalytic performance. The optimal yield of benzyl methyl carbonate reaches 69.7% on Cu/OMC-3.

Abstract
Metal nanoparticles have been recognized and widely explored as unique catalysts for carbon-carbon coupling reactions. However, due to their extreme tendency to agglomeration, the generation and stabilization of metal nanoparticles in a porous matrix is an important research field. Herein, novel mesoporous phenolic resin-supported palladium nanoparticles (Pd@NH2-MPRNs) were prepared via direct anionic exchange followed by gentle reduction by using primary amine-functionalized ordered mesoporous phenolic resin as the support. The obtained Pd@NH2-MPRN material still possessed large surface area and ordered two-dimensional hexagonal mesoporous structure. Meanwhile, uniform and well-dispersed palladium nanoparticles were formed in the mesoporous channels, which could be attributed to an efficient complexation and stabilization effect derived from the primary amine groups. As a result, it can promote Suzuki coupling of less activated aromatic bromides to various biaryls in water with high conversion and selectivity. This excellent performance was attributed to small particle sizes, ordered mesopores, and a hydrophobic pore surface, which resulted in the decreased diffusion limitation and the increased active site accessibility. It is noted that it is competitive with the best palladium catalysts known for water-medium Suzuki coupling reaction, and it can be reused at least seven times without significant reduction in the catalytic efficiency, showing a good recyclability. Therefore, this work provides a new potential platform for designing and fabricating robust ordered mesoporous-polymer-supported metal nanoparticles for various catalytic applications.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed carbonylation in the presence of organic and organometallic nucleophiles
serves as a powerful tool for the conversion of aryl/alkenyl halides or halide equivalents to carbonyl
compounds and carboxylic acid derivatives. To circumvent the difficulties in product separation
and recovery and reuse of the catalysts, associated with homogeneous reactions, supported counterparts
of the homogeneous palladium catalysts were developed. The review intends to summarize the
huge development that has been witnessed in recent years in the field of heterogeneous carbonylation.
A great plethora of supports, organic modifiers on solid surfaces stabilizing metal particles, transition
metal precursors, as well as alternative sources for CO was investigated. In most cases, careful optimization
of reaction conditions was carried out. Besides simple model reactions, the synthesis of carbonyl
compounds and carboxylic acid derivatives from substrates with different functionalities was performed.
In some cases, causes of palladium leaching were clarified with detailed investigations. The
advantages of immobilized catalysts were shown by several examples. The possibility of catalystrecycling
was proved besides proving that metal contamination of the products could often be kept below
the detection limit. At the same time, detailed investigations should be carried out to gain a better
insight into the real nature of these processes.

Abstract
A microwave-assisted method has been developed for the synthesis of tri-substituted pyrazoles via direct N-heterocyclization of hydrazines with metal-acetylacetonate and -dibenzylideneacetonate without using any base or additives. Most importantly, the synthesis of 1-aryl-5-phenyl-3-styryl-1H-pyrazoles was achieved in a single step using hydrochloride salt of various phenylhydrazines and this is the first report for direct construction of these molecules. The reaction medium and microwave conditions play a critical role for their selective product formation during the reaction. The present reaction explored the usage of metal-diketonic complexes as reaction substrates providing acetylacetone and dibenzylideneacetone moieties to directly participate in cyclization with hydrazines to form the corresponding pyrazoles in excellent yields. The present protocol introduces the important N-heterocyclic moieties in the final structures, giving the reaction great applications from a medicinal chemistry perspective, particularly in the late stage modification strategies in drug discovery. The synthesis of tri-substituted pyrazoles was achieved via direct N-heterocyclization of hydrazines with metal-acetylacetonate and -dibenzylideneacetonate without using any base or additives under microwave irradiation in a single step.![]()

Abstract
A new, convenient, and efficient precursor transformation route for the synthesis of supported Au nanocatalysts was reported. In this strategy, [Au(en)2]3+-riched titanate nanospheres (en: ethylenediamine) with hierarchical flower-like architecture were pre-synthesized via “ammonia etching-ion exchange” processes and then used as the precursors of the objective catalysts. Direct pyrolysis of these precursors, varying in amount of [Au(en)2]3+, led to the formation of Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) with different contents uniformly supported on highly crystalline titania nanoflowers (fTiO2). The fTiO2-supported AuNPs nanocomposites possessed highly open porous structures with large surface areas (142.3–149.3 m2 g−1), which could allow guest molecules to diffuse in and out easily. More interestingly, the formed AuNPs with small size (∼3.8 nm) were well-dispersed and partially embedded into the nanosheets of fTiO2, which was beneficial for achieving high activity while avoiding their detachment from the support during application. Accordingly, the AuNPs/TiO2 catalysts exhibited superior catalytic properties for 4-nitrophenol hydrogenation with significantly higher catalytic efficiencies than many previously reported heterogeneous catalysts. Moreover, the catalytic activity could remain almost unchanged after being recycled several times, demonstrating their high stability. These findings open up a new possibility for rational design and synthesis of supported catalysts for diverse catalytic applications. Synthesis of well-dispersed, stable, and highly accessible supported Au nanocatalysts was achieved via a new and efficient precursor transformation route.![]()

Abstract
We report on hexagonal close-packed (hcp) palladium (Pd)-boron (B) nanocrystals (NCs) by heavy B doping into face-centered cubic (fcc) Pd NCs. Scanning transmission electron microscopy-electron energy loss spectroscopy and synchrotron powder X-ray diffraction measurements demonstrated that the B atoms are homogeneously distributed inside the hcp Pd lattice. The large paramagnetic susceptibility of Pd is significantly suppressed in Pd-B NCs in good agreement with the reduction of density of states at Fermi energy suggested by X-ray absorption near-edge structure and theoretical calculations.

Abstract
A novel efficient tandem reaction of hydrazones and α-bromo ketones is reported for the preparation of 1,3,5-trisubstituted pyrazoles by visible light catalysis. In this system, the monosubstituted hydrazones show wonderful reaction activity with alkyl radicals, generated from α-bromo ketones. A radical addition followed by intramolecular cyclization affords the important pyrazole skeleton in good to excellent yields. This efficient strategy under mild conditions with wide group tolerance provides a potential approach to the 1,3,5-trisubstituted pyrazoles.

Abstract
Utilization of ionic liquids (ILs) in material synthesis is a promising field. The unusual properties of ILs provide new opportunities for the design of functional materials, and much excellent work has been reported. Here, the progress in material design and synthesis using ILs, especially nanomaterials, is discussed, including the unitization of ILs as synthetic media, templates, precursors, or components in the synthesis of various categories of nanomaterials. The challenges and opportunities in this interesting and rapid developing area are also discussed.
