Abstract
Efficient and environmentally friendly synthesis of silanols is a crucial issue across the broad fields of academic and industrial chemistry. Herein, we describe the dehydrogenative oxidation of hydrosilane using a gold nanoparticle catalyst supported by fibrillated citric acid-modified cellulose (F-CAC). Au:F-CAC catalysts with various particle sizes (1.7 nm, 4.9 nm, and 7.7 nm) were prepared using the trans-deposition method, a technique previously reported by our group. These catalysts exhibited significant catalytic activity to produce silanols with high turnover frequency (TOF) of up to 7028 h-1. Recycling experiments and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation represented the high durability of Au:F-CAC under the reaction conditions, allowing kinetic studies on size dependency. Mechanistic studies were conducted, including isotope labelling experiments, kinetics, and various spectroscopies. Notably, the near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) of the model catalyst (Au:PVP) revealed the formation of catalytically active cationic Au sites on the surface through the adsorption of molecular oxygen, providing a new insight into the reaction mechanism.

Abstract
As a crucial class of functional molecules in organosilicon chemistry, silanols are found valuable applications in the fields of modern science and will be a potentially powerful framework for biologically active compounds or functional materials. It has witnessed an increasing demand for non-natural organosilanols, as well as the progress in the synthesis of these structural features. From the classic preparative methods to the catalytic selective oxidation of hydrosilanes, electrochemical hydrolysis of hydrosilanes, and then the construction of the most challenging silicon-stereogenic silanols. This review summarized the progress in the catalyzed synthesis of silanols via hydroxylation of hydrosilanes in the last decade, with a particular emphasis on the latest elegant developments in the desymmetrization strategy for the enantioselective synthesis of silicon-stereogenic silanols from dihydrosilanes.

Abstract
The emergence of visible light-mediated synthetic transformations has transpired as a promising approach to redefine traditional organic synthesis in a sustainable way. In this genre, transition metal-mediated photoredox catalysis has led the way and recreated a plethora of organic transformations. However, the use of photochemical energy solely to initiate the reaction is underexplored. With the direct utilization of photochemical energy herein, we have established a general and practical protocol for the synthesis of diversely functionalized organosilanols, silanediols, and polymeric siloxanol engaging a wide spectrum of hydrosilanes under ambient reaction conditions. Streamlined synthesis of bio-active silanols via late-stage functionalization underscores the importance of this sustainable protocol. Interestingly, this work also reveals photoinduced non-classical chlorine radical (Cl•) generation from a readily available chlorinated solvent under aerobic conditions. The intriguing factors of the proposed mechanism involving chlorine and silyl radicals as intermediates were supported by a series of mechanistic investigations.

Abstract
Direct oxidation of organosilanes is one of the most straightforward ways to access silanols. Herein, we describe a novel photo-induced strategy for oxidation of organosilanes to access silanols, promoted by a photoactive charge-transfer complex (CTC) between sodium benzenesulfinate and molecular O2. A streamlined sequence transformation of organosilanes to silyl ethers was also readily achieved. This developed protocol represents the first example of CTC-based oxidation of organosilanes, offering a facile approach to access a series of silanol and silyl ether products.

Abstract
Herein, a four-coordinated organoboron compound, aminoquinoline diarylboron (AQDAB), is utilized as the photocatalyst in the oxidation of silane to silanol. This strategy effectively oxidizes Si-H bonds, affording Si-O bonds. Generally, the corresponding silanols can be obtained in moderate to good yields at room temperature under oxygen atmospheres, representing a green protocol to complement the existing preparation methods for silanols.

Abstract
The organocatalytic epoxidation of unactivated alkenes using aqueous hydrogen peroxide provides various indispensable products and intermediates in a sustainable manner. While formyl functionalities typically undergo irreversible oxidations when activating an oxidant, an atropisomeric two-axis aldehyde capable of catalytic turnover was identified for high-yielding epoxidations of cyclic and acyclic alkenes. The relative configuration of the stereogenic axes of the catalyst and the resulting proximity of the aldehyde and backbone residues resulted in high catalytic efficiencies. Mechanistic studies support a non-radical alkene oxidation by an aldehyde-derived dioxirane intermediate generated from hydrogen peroxide through the Payne and Criegee intermediates.

Abstract
Significant inroads have been made using biocatalysts to perform new-to-nature reactions with high selectivity and efficiency. Meanwhile, advances in organosilicon chemistry have led to rich sets of reactions holding great synthetic value. Merging biocatalysis and silicon chemistry could yield new methods for the preparation of valuable organosilicon molecules as well as the degradation and valorization of undesired ones. Despite silicon's importance in the biosphere for its role in plant and diatom construction, it is not known to be incorporated into any primary or secondary metabolites. Enzymes have been found that act on silicon-containing molecules, but only a few are known to act directly on silicon centers. Protein engineering and evolution has and could continue to enable enzymes to catalyze useful organosilicon transformations, complementing and expanding upon current synthetic methods. The role of silicon in biology and the enzymes that act on silicon-containing molecules are reviewed to set the stage for a discussion of where biocatalysis and organosilicon chemistry may intersect.

Abstract
The first electrochemical hydrolysis of hydrosilanes to silanols under mild and neutral reaction conditions is reported. The practical protocol employs commercially available and cheap NHPI as a hydrogen-atom transfer (HAT) mediator and operates at room temperature with high selectivity, leading to various valuable silanols in moderate to good yields. Notably, this electrochemical method exhibits a broad substrate scope and high functional-group compatibility, and it is applicable to late-stage functionalization of complex molecules. Preliminary mechanistic studies suggest that the reaction appears to proceed through a nucleophilic substitution reaction of an electrogenerated silyl cation with H2 O.

Abstract
This work reports on an assembling-calcining method for preparing gold-metal oxide core-satellite nanostructures, which enable surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopic detection of chemical reactions on metal oxide nanoparticles. By using the nanostructure, we study the photooxidation of Si-H catalyzed by CuO nanoparticles. As evidenced by the in situ spectroscopic results, oxygen vacancies of CuO are found to be very active sites for oxygen activation, and hydroxide radicals (*OH) adsorbed at the catalytic sites are likely to be the reactive intermediates that trigger the conversion from silanes into the corresponding silanols. According to our finding, oxygen vacancy-rich CuO catalysts are confirmed to be of both high activity and selectivity in photooxidation of various silanes.

Abstract
Compared to the biological world's rich chemistry for functionalizing carbon, enzymatic transformations of the heavier homologue silicon are rare. We report that a wild-type cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (P450BM3 from Bacillus megaterium, CYP102A1) has promiscuous activity for oxidation of hydrosilanes to give silanols. Directed evolution was applied to enhance this non-native activity and create a highly efficient catalyst for selective silane oxidation under mild conditions with oxygen as the terminal oxidant. The evolved enzyme leaves C-H bonds present in the silane substrates untouched, and this biotransformation does not lead to disiloxane formation, a common problem in silanol syntheses. Computational studies reveal that catalysis proceeds through hydrogen atom abstraction followed by radical rebound, as observed in the native C-H hydroxylation mechanism of the P450 enzyme. This enzymatic silane oxidation extends nature's impressive catalytic repertoire.

Abstract
The Johnson-Corey-Chaykovsky epoxidation is one of the oldest methods for the synthesis of terminal epoxides from carbonyl compounds. Herein we present a simplified extension of the Johnson-Corey-Chaykovsky epoxidation, where ketoacids are employed as the substrates and commercially available trimethylsulfoxonium iodide is employed as the carbon-atom homologating reagent. A variety of lactones are produced in a single step in synthetically useful yields.

Abstract
Platinum cure for poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) coatings on a thermal gradient (45-140 °C) was carried out to study the effect of temperature on surface chemistry and wetting behavior. The motivation is the interest in surfaces with continuous gradients in wettability for applications such as protein adsorption, controlling bacterial adhesion, directional movement of cells, and biosensors. The Wilhelmy plate method and the advancing/receding drop method were employed for determining the positional dependence of θA and θR. A strong dependence of receding contact angles (θR) on cure temperature was found for Sylgard 184 (S-PDMS) and a Pt-cured laboratory-prepared analogue (Pt-PDMS) of known composition. Cure on the thermal gradient gave rise to striking "Big Dipper" Wilhelmy plate dynamic contact angle curves. High contact angle hysteresis (60-80°) was found for 45 °C cure (CAH = θΔ = θA - θR) but low CAH for 140 °C cure (10-20°). Drop addition/withdrawal using goniometry identified a similar trend. Attenuated total reflectance infrared spectroscopy showed absorptions for Si-OH (3500 cm-1) and Si-H (1250 cm-1) that were correlated with wetting behavior and near-surface chemistry. These studies revealed a complex relationship among hydrosilylation, Si-H autoxidation, and condensation of Si-OH. A model for advancing from a single network due to hydrosilylation to a double network for hydrosilylation plus Si-O-Si from condensation of Si-OH best explains evidence from spectroscopic and contact angle studies. These results are relevant to interactions of Pt-cured silicones at bio-interfaces, as receding contact angles determine work of adhesion, as well as applications that benefit from maximum hydrophobicity and minimizing water roll-off angles.

Abstract
A silicon-tether ring-closing metathesis strategy is reported for the synthesis of trisubstituted olefins flanked by allylic or homoallylic alcohols, which are difficult to obtain by classical ring-closing or cross-metathesis reactions. In addition, a novel Peterson olefination reaction has been developed for the preparation of the allyldimethylsilane precursors, which are versatile synthetic intermediates. This method was then applied to the synthesis of the C16-C30 fragment of dolabelide C.

Abstract
A green, sustainable, organocatalytic, and efficient synthesis of isoxazolines from allyloximes was developed. A 2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone-catalyzed oxidation of allyloximes, utilizing H2O2 as the green oxidant, was taken advantage of in order to introduce a cheap and environmentally friendly protocol for the synthesis of substituted isoxazolines. A variety of substitution patterns, both aromatic and aliphatic moieties, are well tolerated, leading to isoxazolines in moderate to excellent yields.

Abstract
An organocatalytic linchpin catalysis approach was envisaged to convert simple aldehydes into enantioenriched 2-oxopiperazines. A four-step reaction sequence (chlorination, oxidation, substitution, and cyclization) was developed and led to different substitution patterns in high yields and selectivities. The reaction mechanism was studied, and the previously elusive epoxy lactone intermediate was identified by HRMS.
