Abstract
The utilization of biobased feedstocks to prepare useful compounds is a pivotal trend in current chemical research. Among a varied portfolio of naturally available starting materials, fatty acids are abundant, versatile substrates with multiple applications. In this context, the ethenolysis of unsaturated fatty acid esters such as methyl oleate is an atom-economical way to prepare functional C10 olefins with a biobased footprint. Despite the existence of a variety of metathesis catalysts for the latter process, there is a lack of readily available, efficient, and inexpensive catalytic systems based on earth-abundant metals (Mo, W) whose preparation does not require sophisticated syntheses and manipulations. Here, a systematic exploration of homogeneous and heterogeneous inorganic Mo, W (oxy)halides shows that MoOCl4, while inactive as a homogeneous species, forms active and selective silica-supported ethenolysis precatalysts able to reach equilibrium conversion of methyl oleate within a few minutes upon activation with SnMe4. Such heterogeneous MoOCl4-based precatalysts were easily accessed through mechanochemical solvent-free procedures and found to contain, upon characterization by elemental analysis and Raman spectroscopy, isolated (≡SiO)Mo(=O)Cl3 units or polymeric silica-supported [-O(≡SiO)nMoCl4-nO-]m (n = 1, 2) complexes depending on the molybdenum loading. The former isolated species exhibited a higher catalytic performance. The developed heterogeneous precatalysts could be applied to the ethenolysis of various substrates, including polyunsaturated fatty acid esters and industrial fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) mixtures from palm oil transesterification.

Abstract
17O-labelled tungsten siloxide complexes [WOCl2(OSitBu3)2] (1-Cl) and [WOMe2(OSitBu3)2] (1-Me) were prepared and characterized by 17O MAS NMR, with input from theoretical calculations of NMR parameters. Guidelines linking 17O NMR parameters and the coordination sphere of molecular and silica-grafted tungsten oxo species are proposed. The grafting of 1-Me on SiO2-700 afforded material 2, with surface species [(SiO)WOMe2(OSitBu3)] as shown by elemental analysis, IR and 1H and 13C MAS NMR. The DFT calculations of the grafting mechanism are in line with the observed reactivity. They indicate the occurrence of several isomeric species of close energy for the grafted W centers, precluding efficient 17O MAS NMR studies. The lack of catalytic activity in olefin metathesis and ring-opening olefin metathesis polymerization indicates that initiation by α-H elimination is not operative in 2, contrary to related tungsten surface species, which illustrates the crucial influence of the nature of the metal coordination sphere.

Effect of Lewis Acids on the Catalyst Activity for Alkene Metathesis, Z-/E- Selectivity and Stability of Tungsten Oxo Alkylidenes. Top Catal 2021. Abstract
AbstractLewis acids increase the catalytic activity of classical heterogeneous catalysts and molecular d0 tungsten oxo alkylidenes in a variety of olefin metathesis processes. The formation of labile adducts between the metal complex and the Lewis acid has been observed experimentally and suggested to be involved in the catalyst activity increase. In this contribution, DFT (M06) calculations have been performed to determine the role of Lewis acids on catalyst activity, Z-/E- selectivity and stability by comparing three W(E)(CHR)(2,5-dimethylpyrrolide)(O-2,6-dimesithylphenoxide) (E = oxo, imido or oxo-Lewis acid adduct) alkylidenes. Results show that the formation of the alkylidene—Lewis acid adducts influences the reactivity of tungsten oxo alkylidenes due to both steric and electronic effects. The addition of the Lewis acid on the E group increases its bulkiness and this decreases catalyst Z-selectivity. Moreover, the interaction between the oxo ligand and the Lewis acid decreases the donating ability of the former toward the metal. This is important when the oxo group has either a ligand in trans or in the same plane that is competing for the same metal d orbitals. Therefore, the weakening of oxo donating ability facilitates the cycloaddition and cycloreversion steps and it stabilizes the productive trigonal bipyramid metallacyclobutane isomer. The two factors increase the catalytic activity of the complex. The electron donating tuneability by the coordination of the Lewis acid also applies to catalyst deactivation and particularly the key β-hydride elimination step. In this process, the transition states show a ligand in pseudo trans to the oxo. Therefore, the presence of the Lewis acid decreases the Gibbs energy barrier significantly. Overall, the optimization of the E group donating ability in each step of the reaction makes tungsten oxo alkylidenes more reactive and this applies both for the catalytic activity and catalyst deactivation.

Abstract
This review aims to give a general overview of the recent use of tungsten-based catalysts for wide environmental applications, with first some useful background information about tungsten oxides. Tungsten oxide materials exhibit suitable behaviors for surface reactions and catalysis such as acidic properties (mainly Brønsted sites), redox and adsorption properties (due to the presence of oxygen vacancies) and a photostimulation response under visible light (2.6–2.8 eV bandgap). Depending on the operating condition of the catalytic process, each of these behaviors is tunable by controlling structure and morphology (e.g., nanoplates, nanosheets, nanorods, nanowires, nanomesh, microflowers, hollow nanospheres) and/or interactions with other compounds such as conductors (carbon), semiconductors or other oxides (e.g., TiO2) and precious metals. WOx particles can be also dispersed on high specific surface area supports. Based on these behaviors, WO3-based catalysts were developed for numerous environmental applications. This review is divided into five main parts: structure of tungsten-based catalysts, acidity of supported tungsten oxide catalysts, WO3 catalysts for DeNOx applications, total oxidation of volatile organic compounds in gas phase and gas sensors and pollutant remediation in liquid phase (photocatalysis).

Abstract
Single atom catalysis (SAC) is a recent discipline of heterogeneous catalysis for which a single atom on a surface is able to carry out various catalytic reactions. A kind of revolution in heterogeneous catalysis by metals for which it was assumed that specific sites or defects of a nanoparticle were necessary to activate substrates in catalytic reactions. In another extreme of the spectrum, surface organometallic chemistry (SOMC), and, by extension, surface organometallic catalysis (SOMCat), have demonstrated that single atoms on a surface, but this time with specific ligands, could lead to a more predictive approach in heterogeneous catalysis. The predictive character of SOMCat was just the result of intuitive mechanisms derived from the elementary steps of molecular chemistry. This review article will compare the aspects of single atom catalysis and surface organometallic catalysis by considering several specific catalytic reactions, some of which exist for both fields, whereas others might see mutual overlap in the future. After a definition of both domains, a detailed approach of the methods, mostly modeling and spectroscopy, will be followed by a detailed analysis of catalytic reactions: hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, hydrogenolysis, oxidative dehydrogenation, alkane and cycloalkane metathesis, methane activation, metathetic oxidation, CO2 activation to cyclic carbonates, imine metathesis, and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) reactions. A prospective resulting from present knowledge is showing the emergence of a new discipline from the overlap between the two areas.

Abstract
The new bisamido aluminum species [AlCl{N(SiMe3)2}2(THF)] (1) was prepared and fully characterized by 27Al and 35Cl solid-state NMR, along with X-ray diffraction studies. 1 was grafted on silica partially dehydroxylated at 700 °C, affording silica-supported Al species. The resulting material (2) was characterized by IR, elemental analysis and 1H, 13C and 27Al solid-state MAS NMR. The 1D and 2D 27Al MAS NMR studies showed the occurrence of two types of species, where the Al center adopts a tetracoordinated coordination sphere, with as an additional coordinated Lewis base, either a THF ligand or a silica-surface siloxane moiety. DFT calculations allowed understanding the grafting mechanism and the spectroscopic properties of the material.

Abstract
A chlorination method for the selective substitution of well-defined isolated silanol groups of the silica surface has been developed using the catalytic Appel reaction. Spectroscopic analysis, complemented by elemental microanalysis studies, reveals that a quantitative chlorination could be achieved with highly dehydroxylated silica materials that exclusively possess non-hydrogen bonded silanol groups. The employed method did not leave any carbon or phosphorus residue on the silica surface and can be regarded as a promising tool for the future functionalization of metal oxide surfaces.
