Abstract
The sinking of alkali cations in superfluid 4He nanodroplets is investigated theoretically using liquid 4He time-dependent density functional theory at zero temperature. The simulations illustrate the dynamics of the buildup of the first solvation shell around the ions. The number of helium atoms in this shell is found to linearly increase with time during the first stages of the dynamics. This points to a Poissonian capture process, as concluded in the work of Albrechtsen et al. on the primary steps of Na+ solvation in helium droplets [Albrechtsen et al., Nature 623, 319 (2023)]. The energy dissipation rate by helium atom ejection is found to be quite similar between all alkalis, the main difference being a larger energy dissipated per atom for the lighter alkalis at the beginning of the dynamics. In addition, the number of helium atoms in the first solvation shell is found to be lower at the end of the dynamics than at equilibrium for both Li+ and Na+, pointing to a kinetic rather than thermodynamical control of the snowball size for small and strongly attractive ions.

Abstract
This work systematically examines the interactions of alkali metal cations and their isoelectronic halide counterparts with up to six solvating Ar atoms (M+Arn and X-Arn, where M = Li, Na, K, and Rb; X = H, F, Cl, and Br; and n = 1-6) via full geometry optimizations with the MP2 method and robust, correlation-consistent quadruple-ζ (QZ) basis sets. 116 unique M+Arn and X-Arn stationary points have been characterized on the MP2/QZ potential energy surface. To the best of our knowledge, approximately two dozen of these stationary points have been reported here for the first time. Some of these new structures are either the lowest-energy stationary point for a particular cluster or energetically competitive with it. The CCSD(T) method was employed to perform additional single-point energy computations upon all MP2/QZ-optimized structures using the same basis set. CCSD(T)/QZ results indicate that internally solvated structures with the ion at/near the geometric center of the cluster have appreciably higher energies than those placing the ion on the periphery. While this study extends the prior investigations of M+Arn clusters found within the literature, it notably provides one of the first thorough characterizations of and comparisons to the corresponding negatively charged X-Arn clusters.

Abstract
We report the results of a detailed theoretical investigation of small K2+-doped He clusters. The structural characteristics and stabilities of such cations are determined from ab initio electronic structure calculations at the MRCI+Q level of theory. The underlying interactions show a multireference character and such effects are analyzed. The interaction potentials are constructed employing an interpolation technique within the inverse problem theory method, while the nuclear quantum effects are computed for the trimers, their spatial arrangements are discussed, and information was extracted on the orientational anisotropy of the forces. We found that energetically the most stable conformer corresponds to linear arrangements that are taking place under large amplitude vibrations, with high zero-point energy. We have further looked into the behavior of higher-order species with various He atoms surrounding the cationic dopant. By using a sum of potentials approach and an evolutionary programming method, we analyzed the structural stability of clusters with up to six He atoms in comparison with interactions energies obtained from MRCI+Q quantum chemistry computations. Structures containing Hen motifs that characterize pure rare gas clusters, appear for the larger K2+-doped He clusters, showing selective growth during the microsolvation process of the alkali-dimer cation surrounded by He atoms. Such results indicate the existence of local solvation microstructures in these aggregates, where the cationic impurity could get trapped for a short time, contributing to the slow ionic mobility observed experimentally in ultra-cold He-droplets.

Abstract
Structural study and relative stabilities of Li+-doped helium clusters Li+Hen (n = 1-18) has been reported in this work using two theoretical protocols. The first one is based on the basin-hopping optimization technique, where the total energy of each cluster is described by an additive model describing Li+-He and He-He interactions. The second one is the DFT calculations, in which the initial structures are generated by ABCluster algorithm and CALYPSO software. The CSA shape was found where the first solvation shell is completed at n = 10. The relative stabilities of Li+Hen (n = 1-18) clusters have been discussed based on the variation of the binding energy, second-order difference in energy, fragmentation energy and HOMO-LUMO energy gap as a function of the cluster size. The results showed that Li+He10 is the most stable cluster. The dipole moment is calculated and showed the polar character of the Li+Hen clusters. Finally, the interatomic interactions have been examined topologically by the means of AIM and non-covalent reduced density gradient (NC-RDG) analyses.

Abstract
We present a theoretical study on the potential energy surface and bound states of He-A2+ complexes, where A is one of the alkali Li or Na atoms. The intermolecular interactions were systematically investigated by high-level ab initio electronic structure computations, and the corresponding raw data were then employed to reproduce accurate analytical expressions of the potential surfaces. In turn, we used these potentials to evaluate bound configurations of the trimers from nuclear quantum calculations and to extract information on the effect of orientational anisotropy of the forces and the interplay between repulsive and attractive interaction within the potential surfaces. The spatial features of the bound states are analyzed and discussed in detail. We found that both systems are going under large amplitude stretching and bending motions with high zero-point energies. Despite the large differences in the potential well-depths, the correct treatment of nuclear quantum effects provides insights on the effect of different strength of the ionic interaction on the spectral structure of such cationic alkali van der Waals complexes, related to the mobility of ions and the formation of cold-molecules in He-controlled environments.

Abstract
Solvation of Cs+ ions inside helium droplets has been investigated both experimentally and theoretically. On the one hand, mass spectra of doped helium clusters ionized with a crossed electron beam, HeNCs+, have been recorded for sizes up to N = 60. The analysis of the ratio between the observed peaks for each size N reveals evidences of the closure of the first solvation shell when 17 He atoms surround the alkali ion. On the other hand, we have obtained energies and geometrical structures of the title clusters by means of basin-hopping, diffusion Monte Carlo (DMC), and path integral Monte Carlo (PIMC) methods. The analytical He-Cs+ interaction potential employed in our calculations is represented by the improved Lennard-Jones expression optimized on high level ab initio energies. The weakness of the existing interaction between helium and Cs+ in comparison with some other alkali ions such as Li+ is found to play a crucial role. Our theoretical findings confirm that the first solvation layer is completed at N = 17 and both evaporation and second difference energies obtained with the PIMC calculation seem to reproduce a feature observed at N = 12 for the experimental ion abundance. The analysis of the DMC probability distributions reveals the important contribution from the icosahedral structure to the overall configuration for He12Cs+.

Abstract
Herein, we have shown that La(iii), Ac(iii), Th(iii), Th(iv), Pa(iv) and U(iv) can directly bind with a maximum of 24 hydrogen atoms in M(H2)12 in the first sphere of coordination, which would be a new record in any metal-hydrogen complex investigated at the molecular level, where all the hydrogen atoms are directly connected to the central metal ion through M-η2(H2) bonds. Moreover, Ac(H2)n3+ (n = 9-12) systems satisfy the 18-electron rule.

Abstract
We report on a combined experimental and theoretical study of Li+ ions solvated by up to 50 He atoms. The experiments show clear enhanced abundances associated with HenLi+ clusters where n = 2, 6, 8, and 14. We find that classical methods, e.g. basin-hopping (BH), give results that qualitatively agree with quantum mechanical methods such as path integral Monte Carlo, diffusion Monte Carlo and quantum free energy, regarding both energies and the solvation structures that are formed. The theory identifies particularly stable structures for n = 4, 6 and 8 which line up with some of the most abundant features in the experiments.

Abstract
The ground state vibrational energy and spatial features of (4)He-(4)He-Li(+) and its triatomic isotopic complexes are studied using the slow variable discretization (SVD) method in the hyperspherical coordinates for the zero total angular momentum. Our results show that the dominant structure of the system is an isosceles triangle with the shorter side associated with the two Li(+)-He distances using the sum-of-potential approximation. Corrections caused by the induced dipole-induced dipole interactions on the He atoms are also investigated. The effects are seen to be small and have a minor influence on the binding energy and the structure of present system. The results are also compared with the full ab initio calculations including all the three-body interactions and information of three-body corrections is obtained.

Abstract
In the present study, microsolvation and interaction of the CH[Formula: see text] cation with He[Formula: see text] clusters are investigated by means of ab initio calculations at MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ and QCISD/aug-cc-pVTZ levels. Stabilization energies of the studied complexes including basis set superposition error (BSSE) and zero point energy (ZPE) corrections are in the range of [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]kJ/mol and [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]kJ/mol. A good linear correlation is found between the stabilization energy and stretching frequency shift ([Formula: see text]) in the studied complexes. According to energy decomposition analysis, it is found that polarization effects are the major source of the attraction in these complexes.

Abstract
Helium atoms bind strongly to alkali cations which, when embedded in liquid helium, form so-called snowballs. Calculations suggest that helium atoms in the first solvation layer of these snowballs form rigid structures and that their number (n) is well defined, especially for the lighter alkalis. However, experiments have so far failed to accurately determine values of n. We present high-resolution mass spectra of Na+Hen, K+Hen, Na2+Hen and K2+Hen, formed by electron ionization of doped helium droplets; the data allow for a critical comparison with several theoretical studies. For sodium and potassium monomers the spectra indicate that the value of n is slightly smaller than calculated. Na2+Hen displays two distinct anomalies at n=2 and n=6, in agreement with theory; dissociation energies derived from experiment closely track theoretical values. K2+Hen distributions are fairly featureless, which also agrees with predictions.

Abstract
Variational Monte Carlo and diffusion Monte Carlo calculations have been carried out for cations such as Li(+), Na(+), and K(+) as dopants of small helium clusters over a range of cluster sizes up to about 12 solvent atoms. The interaction has been modeled through a sum-of-potential picture that disregards higher order effects beyond atom-atom and atom-ion contributions. The latter were obtained from highly correlated ab initio calculations over a broad range of interatomic distances. This study focuses on two of the most striking features of the microsolvation in a quantum solvent of a cationic dopant: electrostriction and snowball effects. They are discussed here in detail and in relation with the nanoscopic properties of the interaction forces at play within a fully quantum picture of the cluster features.

Abstract
Ab initio computed interaction forces are employed to describe the microsolvation of the A+2(2Sigma) (A=Li, Na, K) molecular ion in 4He clusters of small variable size. The minimum energy structures are obtained by performing energy minimization based on a genetic algorithm approach. The symmetry features of the collocation of solvent adatoms around the dimeric cation are analyzed in detail, showing that the selective growth of small clusters around the two sides of the ion during the solvation process is a feature common to all three dopants.

Abstract
The optimized spatial structures of the small clusters (with N up to 33) formed by an increasing number of (4)He atoms, which act as a microsolvent surrounding the OH(+) ionic molecular dopant, are obtained using a sum-of-potentials scheme corrected by three-body (3B) effects. The most stable structures are generated using the type of genetic algorithm described herein, and the sequential formation of regular shell structures is analyzed in detail. Possible quantum corrections for both the solvent distributions and the stable energetics are analyzed and discussed.

Abstract
The structures and stabilities of Ar(n)Na+ clusters (n < or = 54) are investigated using atomistic potentials fitted to reproduce ab initio calculations performed at the coupled-cluster level on the smaller clusters. Polarization effects are described using either the interaction between dipoles induced by the sodium ion, or a small charge transfer in the framework of a fluctuating charges model. In both models, extra three-body contributions of the Axilrod-Teller type are also included between the sodium ion and all pairs of argon atoms. The two models predict essentially similar growth patterns, and a transition in the metal ion coordination from 8 (square antiprism) to 12 (icosahedron) is seen to occur near n = 50, in response to the intrasolvent constraints.
