Abstract
We present a gauge-origin invariant exact two-component (X2C) approach within a modern density functional framework, supporting meta-generalized gradient approximations such as TPSS and range-separated hybrid functionals such as CAM-B3LYP. The complete exchange-correlation kernel is applied, including the direct contribution of the field-dependent basis functions and the reorthonormalization contribution from the perturbed overlap matrix. Additionally, the finite nucleus model is available for the electron-nucleus potential and the vector potential throughout. Efficiency is ensured by the diagonal local approximation to the unitary decoupling transformation in X2C as well as the (multipole-accelerated) resolution of the identity approximation for the Coulomb term (MARI-J, RI-J) and the seminumerical exchange approximation. Errors introduced by these approximations are assessed and found to be clearly negligible. The applicability of our implementation to large-scale calculations is demonstrated for a tin pincer-type system as well as low-valent tin and lead complexes. Here, the calculation of the Sn nuclear magnetic resonance shifts for the pincer-type ligand with about 2400 basis functions requires less than 1 h for hybrid density functionals. Further, the impact of spin-orbit coupling on the nucleus-independent chemical shifts and the corresponding ring currents of all-metal aromatic systems is studied.

Abstract
We have investigated the NMR chemical shift of 205 Tl in several thallium compounds, ranging from small covalent Tl(I) and Tl(III) molecules to supramolecular complexes with large organic ligands and some thallium halides. NMR calculations were run at the ZORA relativistic level, with and without spin-orbit coupling using few selected GGA and hybrid functionals, namely BP86, PBE, B3LYP, and PBE0. We also tested solvent effects both at the optimization level and at the NMR calculation step. At the ZORA-SO-PBE0 (COSMO) level of theory we find a very good performance of the computational protocol that allows to discard or retain possible structures/conformations based on the agreement between the calculated chemical shift and the experimental value.

Abstract
The self-consistent and complex spin-orbit exact two-component (X2C) formalism for NMR spin-spin coupling constants [ J. Chem. Theory Comput. 17, 2021, 3874-3994] is reduced to a scalar one-component ansatz. This way, the first-order response term can be partitioned into the Fermi-contact (FC) and spin-dipole (SD) interactions as well as the paramagnetic spin-orbit (PSO) contribution. The FC+SD terms are real and symmetric, while the PSO term is purely imaginary and antisymmetric. The relativistic one-component approach is combined with a modern density functional treatment up to local hybrid functionals including the response of the current density. Computational demands are reduced by factors of 8-24 as shown for a large tin compound consisting of 137 atoms. Limitations of the current ansatz are critically assessed for Sn, Pb, Pd, and Pt compounds, i.e. the one-component treatment is not sufficient for tin compounds featuring a few heavy halogen atoms.

Abstract
A new benchmark set termed SnS51 for assessing quantum chemical methods for the computation of 119Sn NMR chemical shifts is presented. It covers 51 unique 119Sn NMR chemical shifts for a selection of 50 tin compounds with diverse bonding motifs and ligands. The experimental reference data are in the spectral range of ±2500 ppm measured in seven different solvents. Fifteen common density functional approximations, two scalar- and one spin-orbit relativistic approach are assessed based on conformer ensembles generated using the CREST/CENSO scheme and state-of-the-art semiempirical (GFN2-xTB), force field (GFN-FF), and composite DFT methods (r2SCAN-3c). Based on the results of this study, the spin-orbit relativistic method combinations of SO-ZORA with PBE0 or revPBE functionals are generally recommended. Both yield mean absolute deviations from experimental data below 100 ppm and excellent linear regression determination coefficients of ≤0.99. If spin-orbit calculations are not affordable, the use of SR-ZORA with B3LYP or X2C with ωB97X or M06 may be considered to obtain qualitative predictions if no severe spin-orbit effects, for example, due to heavy nuclei containing ligands, are expected. An empirical linear scaling correction is demonstrated to be applicable for further improvement, and respective empirical parameters are given. Conformational effects on chemical shifts are studied in detail but are mostly found to be small. However, in specific cases when the ligand sphere differs substantially between conformers, chemical shifts can change by up to several hundred ppm.

Abstract
New J-oriented tin basis sets, acvXz-J (X = 2, 3, 4), have been developed at the level of the second-order polarization propagator approximation with the coupled-cluster single and double amplitudes, SOPPA (CCSD), for the purpose of correlated calculations of indirect nuclear spin-spin coupling constants involving tin nucleus. High-quality coupled-cluster calculations of several tin-proton and tin-carbon spin-spin coupling constants, performed with one of the newly developed basis sets, namely, the acv3z-J, taking into account relativistic, solvent, and vibrational corrections showed that the acv3z-J basis set is capable to provide reliable results, as compared with the experimental data.

Abstract
The benefit of enriching solid-electrolyte interface with fluorine atoms through the use of fluorinated additives into the electrolyte composition has recently gained popularity for anode materials used in secondary lithium-ion batteries. Another strategy is to provide these fluorine atoms via surface fluorination of the electrode material, particularly for multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/SnO2-based composites where fluorination must act selectively on SnO2. Our study presents two methods of surface fluorination applied on MWCNT/SnO2, one using F2(g) and the other XeF2(s). These fluorinating agents are known for their different particle penetration depths. An ultrathin and very dense fluorinated layer achieved by the action of F2(g) allows to form a very stable interface leading to gravimetric capacities of 789 mA h g-1 after 50 cycles. A thin and porous fluorinated layer made by the action of XeF2(s) favors the formation of a new Sn-based fluorinated phase, never reported in the literature, which also stabilizes capacities over 50 cycles. In any case, the value of adding fluorine atoms to the surface of the electrode material to improve cycle stability is demonstrated.

Abstract
A quasi-relativistic implementation of NMR indirect spin-spin coupling constants is presented. The exact two-component (X2C) Hamiltonian and its diagonal local approximation to the unitary decoupling transformation (DLU) are utilized together with the (modified) screened nuclear spin-orbit approach. In a restricted kinetic balance, the finite nucleus model is available for both the scalar and vector potentials. The implementation supports density functionals up to the fourth rung of Jacob's ladder, i.e., (range-separated) hybrid and local hybrid functionals based on a seminumerical ansatz. We assess the quality of our quasi-relativistic X2C approach by comparison with "fully" relativistic four-component results for small main-group molecules and alkynyl compounds. The mean absolute error introduced by the DLU scheme is less than 0.05 × 1019 T J-2 of the reduced coupling constant for the small main-group molecules and 0.5 Hz for the alkynyl compounds. Thus, the error is significantly smaller than finite nucleus size effects for heavy elements. The basis set convergence and the impact of different density functional approximations are further studied. We propose a simple scheme to develop segmented-contracted relativistic all-electron basis sets for NMR spin-spin couplings. Our implementation allows us to perform calculations of extended molecules with reasonable computational effort, which is illustrated for the 1J(119Sn, 31P) coupling constant of a low-valent tin phosphinidenide complex. The corresponding results are in good agreement with the experimental findings.

Abstract
Polyesters synthesized from 2,2,4,4-tetramethyl-1,3-cyclobutanediol (TMCD) and terephthalic acid (TPA) are improved alternatives to toxic polycarbonates based on bisphenol A. In this work, we use ωB97X-D/LANL2DZdp calculations, in the presence of a benzaldehyde polarizable continuum model solvent, to show that esterification of TMCD and TPA will reduce and subsequently dehydrate a dimethyl tin oxide catalyst, becoming ligands on the now four-coordinate complex. This reaction then proceeds most plausibly by an intramolecular acyl-transfer mechanism from the tin complex, aided by a coordinated proton donor such as hydronium. These findings are a key first step in understanding polyester synthesis and avoiding undesirable side reactions during production.

Organic–inorganic
tin(II) halide perovskites have emerged
as promising alternatives to lead halide perovskites in optoelectronic
applications. While they suffer from considerably poorer performance
and stability in comparison to their lead analogues, their performance
improvements have so far largely been driven by trial and error efforts
due to a critical lack of methods to probe their atomic-level microstructure.
Here, we identify the challenges and devise a 119Sn solid-state
NMR protocol for the determination of the local structure of mixed-cation
and mixed-halide tin(II) halide perovskites as well as their degradation
products and related phases. We establish that the longitudinal relaxation
of 119Sn can span 6 orders of magnitude in this class of
compounds, which makes judicious choice of experimental NMR parameters
essential for the reliable detection of various phases. We show that
Cl/Br and I/Br mixed-halide perovskites form solid alloys in any ratio,
while only limited mixing is possible for I/Cl compositions. We elucidate
the degradation pathways of Cs-, MA-, and FA-based tin(II) halides
and show that degradation leads to highly disordered, qualitatively
similar products, regardless of the A-site cation and halide. We detect
the presence of metallic tin among the degradation products, which
we suggest could contribute to the previously reported high conductivities
in tin(II) halide perovskites. 119Sn NMR chemical shifts
are a sensitive probe of the halide coordination environment as well
as of the A-site cation composition. Finally, we use variable-temperature
multifield relaxation measurements to quantify ion dynamics in MASnBr3 and establish activation energies for motion and show that
this motion leads to spontaneous halide homogenization at room temperature
whenever two different pure-halide perovskites are put in physical
contact.

Abstract
The linear response within the elimination of the small component model (LRESC) is an insightful and computationally efficient method for including relativistic effects on molecular properties like the nuclear magnetic shielding constants, spin-rotation constant, g-tensor, and electric field gradient of heavy atom containing molecules with atoms belonging up to the sixth row of the periodic table. One of its main advantages is its capacity to analyze the electronic origin of the different relativistic correcting terms. Until now, it was always applied on top of Hartree-Fock ground-state wave functions (LRESC/HF) to calculate and analyze NMR shieldings. In this work, we show the performance of the LRESC formalism on top of some density functional theory (DFT) functionals to compute tin shielding constants in SnX4 (X = H, F, Cl, Br, I) molecular systems. We analyze the performance of each LRESC/DFT scheme on reproducing the electronic mechanisms of the shieldings, taking as a benchmark the results of relativistic calculations at the RPA level of approach (4c/RPA). As in previous works, we divide the LRESC relativistic correcting terms into two groups: core-dependent and ligand-dependent contributions. It is shown here that core-dependent corrections are well-reproduced for the selected DFT functionals, but some differences arise in the ligand-dependent ones. We focus on the performance of different functionals, including the same electron correlation part but containing different amounts of HF exchange. The best results are obtained for the BHandHLYP functional (50% of HF exchange) and the worst for BLYP (0%). When the percentage of HF exchange increases, ligand-dependent contributions are better described, and the final LRESC/DFT results are closer to those obtained with LRESC/HF and 4c/RPA methods. The spin-orbit correction to the shielding constant is one of the main ligand-dependent contributions (there are two more) with total value depending on the amount of HF exchange included in the functional. When the amount of HF exchange decreases, the spin-orbit contribution becomes larger, overestimating the shielding constant even when nonrelativisitc DFT values are much smaller than the nonrelativistic HF ones, as it happens for the heaviest molecular system studied here (SnI4).

Abstract
A comprehensive investigation was performed on 1 H, 13 C, and 31 P nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts (CSs) of phosphoryl benzamide derivatives (C6 H5 C(O)NHP(O)R1 R2 ), (R1 , R2 = aziridine [L1 ], azetidine [L2 ], pyrrolidine [L3 ], piperidine [L4 ], azepane [L5 ], 4-methylpiperidine [L6 ], propane-2-amine [L7 ], and 2-methylpropane-2-amine [L8 ]) by the gauge-independent atomic orbital method (GIAO) to find the most accordant level of theory with the experimental values. To achieve this goal, all the structures were optimized using the B3LYP, BP86, PBE1PBE, M06-2X, MPWB1K, and MP2 methods with 6-31+G* basis set. Computed structural parameters demonstrate that BP86 has the best agreement to the experimental values between the other methods. The def2-TZVP and aug-cc-pVDZ basis sets were also employed to inspect the effect of different types of basis sets with higher polarization and diffuse functions. The correlation between the empirical and computational values attests that 6-31+G* basis set is the optimum case regarding minimization of the costs and results. The comparison between calculated and experimental CSs at all mentioned combinations illustrated that in accordance with structural results, the best level of theory in CSs is also BP86/6-31+G*. Besides, 2 JPH values were computed with an acceptable agreement to experimental data at the optimum level of theory. The dependency between 2 JPH and the bonding structure of studied ligands was also scrutinized by the Natural Bond Orbital (NBO) analysis that interprets the relationship between the electronic properties and 2 JPH values.

Abstract
Indirect one-bond nuclear spin-spin couplings between M and C [1 J(M,C)] in Me4 M, Me3 M- , Ph4 M, and Ph3 M- (M=Pb, Sn, Ge, Si, C) are analyzed with consideration of the relativistic effect and by employing Slater-type basis sets. The evaluated total values 1 JTL (M,C) reproduced the observed values with some systematic calculation errors. Fermi contact terms 1 JFC (M,C) contribute predominantly to 1 JTL (M,C) (≈99 %). A distinct relativistic effect on 1 J(Pb,C) is predicted for Me3 Pb- and Ph3 Pb- . The mechanisms for the distinct effect are elucidated by using the comparison between Me3 Pb- and Me4 Pb as an example. The contributions to 1 JFC (M,C) [or 1 JSD+FC (M,C), where SD denotes the spin-dipolar term] are decomposed into those of occupied orbitals and occupied-to-unoccupied transitions. The s-type lone-pair orbitals are demonstrated to contribute to the distinct relativistic effect on 1 J(Pb,C) of Me3 Pb- (and Ph3 Pb- ). The results are in sharp contrast to the cases of 1 J(M,C) for M atoms lighter than Pb, such as Si, and are explained by the s character of the M-C bonds. This treatment enables visualization and clear recognition the origin of the nuclear couplings for the species exhibiting a relativistic effect.

Abstract
An inverse linear relationship between 73Ge, 119Sn and 207Pb NMR chemical shifts and the overall sum of ionic radii of coordinated halido ligands has been discovered in tetrahedral [MXnY4-n] (M = Ge, Sn, Pb; 1 ≤ n ≤ 4; X, Y = Cl, Br, I) coordination compounds. This finding is consistent with a previously reported correlation found in octahedral, pentacoordinate and square planar platinum complexes. The effect of the coordinated halido ligands acting on the metal as shielding conducting rings is therefore confirmed also by 73Ge, 119Sn and 207Pb NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract
In the [ABrnIm] (A = C, Si, Ge, Sn; n + m = 4) compounds, with the heavier halido ligands bonded to the central IV group elements, the 13C, 29Si, 73Ge and 119Sn NMR chemical shifts were found to be linearly related to the bonded halides ionic radii overall sum, ∑(rh). The 207Pb NMR chemical shift of the unstable [PbH4] hydride could be calculated.

Abstract
Periodic-boundary and cluster calculations of the magnetic-shielding tensors of (119)Sn sites in various co-ordination and stereochemical environments are reported. The results indicate a significant difference between the predicted NMR chemical shifts for tin(ii) sites that exhibit stereochemically-active lone pairs and tin(iv) sites that do not have stereochemically-active lone pairs. The predicted magnetic shieldings determined either with the cluster model treated with the ZORA/Scalar Hamiltonian or with the GIPAW formalism are dependent on the oxidation state and the co-ordination geometry of the tin atom. The inclusion of relativistic effects at the spin-orbit level removes systematic differences in computed magnetic-shielding parameters between tin sites of differing stereochemistries, and brings computed NMR shielding parameters into significant agreement with experimentally-determined chemical-shift principal values. Slight improvement in agreement with experiment is noted in calculations using hybrid exchange-correlation functionals.

Abstract
The reference values for NMR magnetic shieldings, σ(ref), are of the highest importance when theoretical analysis of chemical shifts are envisaged. The fact that the nonrelativistically valid relationship among spin-rotation constants and magnetic shieldings is not any longer valid for heavy atoms requires that the search for σ(ref) for such atoms needs new strategies to follow. We present here results of σ(ref) that were obtained by applying our own simple procedure which mixes accurate experimental chemical shifts (δ) and theoretical magnetic shieldings (σ). We calculated σ(Sn) and σ(Pb) in a family of heavy-halogen-containing molecules. We found out that σ(ref)[Sn;Sn(CH3)4] in gas phase should be close to 3864.11 ± 20.05 ppm (0.5%). For Pb atom, σ(ref)[Pb;Pb(CH3)4] should be close to 14475.1 ± 500.7 ppm. Such theoretical values correspond to calculations with the relativistic polarization propagator method, RelPPA, at the RPA level of approach. They are closer to experimental values as compared to those obtained applying few different functionals such as PBE0, B3LYP, BLYP, BP86, KT2, and KT3 of the density functional theory, DFT. We studied tin and lead shieldings of the XY(4-n)Z(n) (X = Sn, Pb; Y, Z = H, F, Cl, Br, I) and PbH(4-n)I(n) (n = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4) family of compounds with four-component functionals as implemented in the DIRAC code. For these systems results of calculations with RelPPA-RPA are more reliable than DFT ones. We argue about why those DFT functionals must be modified in order to obtain more accurate results of NMR magnetic shieldings within the relativistic regime: first, there is a dependence among both electron-correlation and relativistic effects that should be introduced in some way in the functionals; and second, the DIRAC code uses standard nonrelativistic functionals and the functionals B3LYP and PBE0 were parametrized only with data taken from light elements. It can explain why they are not able to properly introduce relativistic effects on nuclear magnetic shieldings. We finally show that in the analysis of magnetic shieldings for the family of compounds mentioned above, one must consider the newest and so-called heavy-atom effect on vicinal heavy atoms, HAVHA. Such effects are among the most important relativistic effects in these kind of compounds.

Abstract
The reactivity and complexation properties of dicoordinated Sn(II) and Sn(0) compounds are reviewed. The (dominant) electrophilicity of the stannylenes was confirmed and quantified through density functional theory (DFT) based reactivity indices. For these compounds, combining theoretical DFT calculations and experimental nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopic results has evidenced their potential to undergo π-complexation from aromatic π clouds in addition to significantly stronger σ-complexation. Moreover, their potential as Lewis bases was scrutinized in their interactions and reactions with iron and tungsten carbonyl Lewis acids. Finally, a prospective comparison of the reactivity of divalent stannylenes and stannylones, with a 0 oxidation state at the Sn atom, is presented.

Abstract
The synthesis of new functionalized organotin-chalcogenide complexes was achieved by systematic optimization of the reaction conditions. The structures of compounds [(R(1, 2) Sn)3 S4 Cl] (1, 2), [((R(2) Sn)2 SnS4 )2 (μ-S)2 ] (3), [(R(1, 2) Sn)3 Se4 ][SnCl3 ] (4, 5), and [Li(thf)n ][(R(3) Sn)(HR(3) Sn)2 Se4 Cl] (6), in which R(1) =CMe2 CH2 C(O)Me, R(2) =CMe2 CH2 C(NNH2 )Me, and R(3) =CH2 CH2 COO, are based on defect heterocubane scaffolds, as shown by X-ray diffraction, (119) Sn NMR spectroscopy, and ESI mass spectrometry analyses. Compounds 4, 5, and 6 constitute the first examples of defect heterocubane-type metal-chalcogenide complexes that are comprised of selenide ligands. Comprehensive DFT calculations prompted us to search for the formal intermediates [(R(1) SnCl2 )2 (μ-S)] (7) and [(R(1) SnCl)2 (μ-S)2 ] (8), which were isolated and helped to understand the stepwise formation of compounds 1-6.

Abstract
We demonstrate that the apparent disagreement between experimental determinations and four-component relativistic calculations of the absolute shielding constants of heavy nuclei is due to the breakdown of the commonly assumed relation between the electronic contribution to the nuclear spin-rotation constants and the paramagnetic contribution to the NMR shielding constants. We demonstrate that this breakdown has significant consequences for the absolute shielding constant of (119)Sn, leading to errors of about 1000 ppm. As a consequence, we expect that many absolute shielding constants of heavy nuclei will be in need of revision.

Abstract
Multivariate image analysis (MIA) descriptors have been applied to the quantitative structure-property relationship (QSPR) study of (13) C-NMR chemical shifts of 2-mono substituted pyridines. In this method, descriptors are generated from pixels of images and are analyzed with different multivariate methods. Correlation ranking-principal component regression and correlation ranking-principal component-artificial neural networks were applied in constructing predictor models. In this article, the role of weight update function in artificial neural networks was investigated too. Obtained results using the correlation ranking-principal component-artificial neural network method showed high performance for predicting of (13) C-NMR chemical shifts of pyridine derivatives. Also, these results indicated that MIA descriptors may be useful to predict (13) C-NMR chemical shifts. Finally, The MIA-QSPR approach coupled to artificial neural networks revealed that the predictive ability of MIA descriptors is comparable or even superior for the pyridine derivatives when compared with the ChemDraw program or gauge included atomic orbital procedure for (13) C chemical shifts calculations.

Abstract
The synthesis of dialkyl(silyl)stannylium borates 2[B(C(6)F(5))(4)] by reaction of a stable β-silyl-substituted stannylene 3 with silylarenium borates 4[B(C(6)F(5))(4)] is reported. The stannylium borates 2[B(C(6)F(5))(4)] are characterized by NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction, supported by the results of quantum mechanical calculations. The accumulated experimental and theoretical data indicate that the stannylium ions 2 are not stabilized by β-silyl hyperconjugation and that intramolecular C-H/Sn(+) interactions are not important.
