Abstract
Chemical transformations that result in either the formation or cleavage of carbon-heteroatom bonds are among the most important processes in the chemical sciences. Herein, we present a review on the reactivity of well-defined, late-transition metal complexes that result in the making and breaking of C-N, C-O and C-S bonds via fundamental organometallic reactions, i.e. oxidative addition, reductive elimination, insertion and elimination reactions. When appropriate, emphasis is placed on structural and spectroscopic characterization techniques, as well as mechanistic data.

Abstract
This contribution describes the reactivities of CO2 , CO, O2 , and ArNC with the pincer-type complexes [(κ(P) ,κ(C) ,κ(P') -POC sp 3OP)NiX] (POC sp 3OP=(R2 POCH2 )2 CH; R=iPr; X=OSiMe3 , NArH; Ar=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 ). Reaction of the amido derivative with CO2 and CO leads to a simple insertion into the NiN bond to give stable carbamate and carbamoyl derivatives, respectively, the pincer ligand backbone remaining intact in both cases. In contrast, the analogous reactions with the siloxide derivative produced kinetically labile insertion products that either revert to the starting material (in the case of CO2 ) or react further to give the mixed-valent, dinickel species [(POC sp 3OP)Ni(II) {μ,κ(O) ,κ(P) ,κ(P') -OCOCH(CH2 CH2 OPR2 )2 }Ni(0) (CO)2 ]. The zero-valent center in the latter compound is ligated by a new ligand arising from transformation of the POC sp 3OP ligand backbone. The carbonylation and carboxylation of the siloxido derivative also produced minor quantities of a side-product identified as the trinickel species, [{(η(3) -allyl)Ni(μ(O) ,κ(P) -R2 PO)2 }2 Ni], arising from total dismantling of the POC sp 3OP ligand. Similar reactivities were observed with isonitrile, ArNC: reaction with the siloxido derivative resulted in a complex sequence of steps involving initial insertion, a 1,3-hydrogen shift, and an Arbuzov rearrangement to give [Ni(CNAr)4 ] and a methacrylamide based on fragments of the POC sp 3OP ligand. Oxygenation of the amido and siloxido derivatives led to the phosphinate derivative, [(POC sp 3OP)Ni(OP(O)R2 )], arising from oxidative transformation of the original ligand frame; the reaction with the Ni-NHAr derivative also gave ArHNP(O)R2 through a complex NP bond-forming reaction.

Abstract
The use of the weak base Cs2CO3 in Pd-catalyzed carboamination reactions of N-protected gamma-aminoalkenes with aryl bromides leads to greatly increased tolerance of functional groups and alkene substitution. Substrates derived from (E)- or (Z)-hex-4-enylamines are stereospecifically converted to 2,1'-disubstituted pyrrolidine products that result from suprafacial addition of the nitrogen atom and the aryl group across the alkene. Transformations of 4-substituted pent-4-enylamine derivatives proceed in high yield to afford 2,2-disubstituted products, and cis-2,5- or trans-2,3-disubstituted pyrrolidines are generated in good yield with excellent diastereoselectivity from N-protected pent-4-enylamines bearing substituents at C1 or C3. The reactions tolerate a broad array of functional groups, including esters, nitro groups, and enolizable ketones. The scope and limitations of these transformations are described in detail, along with models that account for the observed product stereochemistry. In addition, deuterium labeling experiments, which indicate these reactions proceed via syn-aminopalladation of intermediate palladium(aryl)(amido)complexes regardless of degree of alkene substitution or reaction conditions, are also discussed.

Abstract
Treatment of the ebnpa (N-2-(ethylthio)ethyl-N,N-bis((6-neopentylamino-2-pyridyl)methyl)amine) ligand with a molar equivalent amount of Cd(ClO(4))(2).5H(2)O in CH(3)CN followed by the addition of [Me(4)N]OH.5H(2)O yielded the cadmium hydroxide complex [(ebnpaCd)(2)(mu-OH)(2)](ClO(4))(2) (1). Complex 1 has a binuclear cation in the solid-state with secondary hydrogen-bonding and CH/pi interactions involving the ebnpa ligand. In acetonitrile, 1 forms a binuclear/mononuclear equilibrium mixture. The formation of a mononuclear species has been confirmed by conductance measurements of 1 at low concentrations. Variable temperature studies of the binuclear/mononuclear equilibrium provided the standard enthalpy and entropy associated with the formation of the monomer as DeltaH degrees = +31(2) kJ mol(-1) and DeltaS degrees = +108(8) J mol(-1) K(-1), respectively. Enhanced secondary hydrogen-bonding interactions involving the terminal Cd-OH moiety may help to stabilize the mononuclear complex. Treatment of 1 with CO(2) in acetonitrile results in the formation of a binuclear cadmium carbonate complex, [(ebnpaCd)(2)(mu-CO(3))](ClO(4))(2) (2).

Abstract
This paper presents some unusual types of reactions of lanthanocene amide complexes with ketenes, and demonstrates that these reactions are dependent on the nature of amide ligands and ketenes as well as the stoichiometric ratio under the conditions involved. The reaction of [{Cp(2)LnNiPr(2)}(2)] with four equivalents of Ph(2)CCO in toluene affords the unexpected enolization dearomatization products [Cp(2)Ln(OC{2,5-C(6)H(5)(==CPhCONiPr(2)-4)}==CPh(2))] (Ln = Yb (1 a), Er (1 b)) in good yields, representing an unprecedented conjugate electrophilic addition to a non-coordinated benzenoid nucleus. Treatment of [{Cp(2)LnNiPr(2)}(2)] with four equivalents of PhEtCCO under the same conditions gives the unexpected enolization dearomatization/rearomatization products [{Cp(2)Ln(OC{C(6)H(4)(p-CHEtCONiPr(2))}==CEtPh)}(2)] (Ln = Yb (2 a), Er (2 b), Dy (2 c)). However, reaction of [{Cp(2)YbNiPr(2)}(2)] with PhEtCCO in THF forms only the mono-insertion product [Cp(2)Yb{OC(NiPr(2))==CEtPh}](THF) (3). Hydrolysis of 2 afforded aryl ketone PhEtCHCOC(6)H(4)(p-CHEtCONiPr(2)) (4) and the overall formation of aryl ketone 4 provides an alternative route to the acylation of aromatic compounds. Moreover, reaction of [{Cp(2)LnNHPh}(2)] with excess of PhEtCCO or Ph(2)CCO in toluene affords only the products from a formal insertion of the C==C bond of the ketene into the N--H bond, [(Cp(2)Ln{OC(CHEtPh)NPh})(2)] (Ln = Yb (5 a), Y (5 b)) or [(Cp(2)Er{OC(CHPh(2))NPh})(2)] (6), respectively, indicating that an isomerization involving a 1,3-hydrogen shift occurs more easily than the conjugate electrophilic addition reaction, along with the initial amide attack on the ketene carbonyl carbon. [{Cp(2)ErNHEt}(2)] reacts with an excess of PhEtCCO to give [(Cp(2)Er{PhEtCHCON(Et)COCEtPh})(2)] (7), revealing another unique pattern of double-insertion of ketenes into the metal-ligand bond without bond formation between two ketene molecules. All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis and by their spectroscopic properties. The structures of complexes 1 b, 2 a, 2 b, 5 a, 5 b, 6, and 7 were also determined through X-ray single-crystal diffraction analysis.

Abstract
The synthesis, structure, and reactivity of a series of low-coordinate Fe(II) diketiminate amido complexes are presented. Complexes L(R)FeNHAr (R = methyl, tert-butyl; Ar = para-tolyl, 2,6-xylyl, and 2,6-diisopropylphenyl) bind Lewis bases to give trigonal pyramidal and trigonal bipyramidal adducts. In the adducts, crystallographic and (1)H NMR evidence supports the existence of agostic interactions in solid and solution states. Complexes L(R)FeNHAr may be oxidized using AgOTf, and the products L(R)Fe(NHAr)(OTf) are characterized with (19)F NMR spectroscopy, UV/vis spectrophotometry, solution magnetic measurements, elemental analysis, and, in one case, X-ray crystallography. In the structures of the iron(III) complexes L(R)Fe(NHAr)(OTf) and L(R)Fe(OtBu)(OTf), the angles at nitrogen and oxygen result from steric effects and not pi-bonding. The reactions of the amido group of L(R)FeNHAr with weak acids (HCCPh and HOtBu) are consistent with a basic nitrogen atom, because the amido group is protonated by terminal alkynes and alcohols to give free H(2)NAr and three-coordinate acetylide and alkoxide complexes. The trends in complex stability give insight into the relative strength of bonds from three-coordinate iron to anionic C-, N-, and O-donor ligands.

Abstract
Synthesis and isolation of the Cu(I) amido complex (dtbpe)Cu(NHPh) (dtbpe = 1,2-bis(di-tert-butylphosphino)ethane) is accomplished upon reaction of [(dtbpe)Cu(mu-Cl)](2) with LiNHPh. The anilido complex has been fully characterized by IR spectroscopy and multinuclear NMR spectroscopy as well as by single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. Salient features of the solid-state structure include an amido orientation that allows pi-interaction of the nitrogen-based lone pair with both the empty copper p-orbital and the pi-system of the phenyl substituent. A solid-state X-ray diffraction study of [(dtbpe)Cu(NH(2)Ph)][BF(4)] has allowed a direct comparison of the structural features upon conversion of the amine ligand to an amido. The reactivity of the amido ligand of (dtbpe)Cu(NHPh) is consistent with nucleophilic character. For example, the formation of Ph(3)CNHPh is observed upon treatment with [Ph(3)C][BF(4)], and reaction at room temperature with EtX (X = Br or I) yields N-ethylaniline. The reactivity of (dtbpe)Cu(NHPh) is compared to that of the octahedral and d(6) complex TpRu(PMe(3))(2)(NHPh) (Tp = hydridotris(pyrazolyl)borate).

Abstract
The binuclear cobalt(II) amide complex [(CoL2)2-(TMEDA)] (1) [L = N(Si(t)BuMe2)(2-C5H3N-6-Me); TMEDA = Me2NCH2CH2NMe2] has been synthesized by the reaction of anhydrous CoCl2 with 2 equiv of [Li(L)(TMEDA)]. X-ray crystallography revealed that complex 1 consists of two [CoL2] units linked by one TMEDA ligand molecule, which binds in an unusual N,N'-bridging mode. Protolysis of 1 with the bulky phenol Ar(Me)OH (Ar(Me) = 2,6-(t)Bu2-4-MeC6H2) and thiophenol ArSH (Ar = 2,4,6-(t)Bu3C6H2) gives the neutral monomeric cobalt(II) bis(aryloxide) [Co(OAr(Me))2(TMEDA)] (2) and dithiolate [Co(SAr)2(TMEDA)] (3), respectively. Complexes 1-3 have been characterized by mass spectrometry, microanalysis, magnetic moment, and melting-point measurements, in addition to X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
The reaction of [[O(SiMe2Ap)2)2LnLi(thf)n] 1 (Ln = Nd, n= 2) and 2 (Ln = La, n = 3) in hexane with [(dme)NiCl2] (dme = dimethoxyethane) and [(cod)PtCl2] (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) leads to the dimeric Ni complex [[O(SiMe2Ap)2]2Ni2] (3) and the mononuclear platinum compound [O(SiMe2Ap)2Pt] (4). respectively (O(SiMe2ApH)2 = bis(4-methyl-2-pyridylamino)tetramethyldisiloxane). Compounds 3 and 4 have been characterized by X-ray crystal structure analysis. The ligand-transfer reactions probably proceed via heterobimetallic intermediates. A model complex of such an intermediate [[O(SiMe2Ap)2)2NdPdMe] (7) was isolated by reacting 1 with [(cod)PdMeCl]. Applications of complex 3 in ethylene oligomerization were investigated. Highly branched oligomers with a very narrow molecular weight distribution (Mn =230 gmol(-1) (relative to polystyrene standards), Mw/M= 1.14) are produced when Et3Al2Cl3 is employed as a co-catalyst and CH2Cl2 as the solvent (TOF = 122000 h(-1). Treatment of one equivalent of 1 or 2 with two equivalents of [(cod)CuCl] results in the formation of the polycyclic tetranuclear complex [[O(SiMe2Ap)2]2Cu4] (8). An X-ray crystal structure analysis of 8 shows channels formed by a series of fourteen-membered rings in the solid state.
