Abstract
The rhenadicarbaborane carbonyl nitrosyls (C2Bn−3Hn−1)Re(CO)2(NO), (n = 8 to 12), of interest in drug delivery agents based on the experimentally known C2B9H11Re(CO)2(NO) and related species, have been investigated by density functional theory. The lowest energy structures of these rhenadicarbaboranes are all found to have central ReC2Bn−3 most spherical closo deltahedra in accord with their 2n + 2 Wadean skeletal electrons. Carbon atoms are found to be located preferentially at degree 4 vertices in such structures. Furthermore, rhenium atoms are preferentially located at a highest degree vertex, typically a vertex of degree 5. Only for the 9-vertex C2B6H8Re(CO)2(NO) system are alternative isocloso deltahedral isomers found within ~8 kcal/mol of the lowest energy closo isomer. Such 9-vertex isocloso structures provide a degree 6 vertex for the rhenium atom flanked by degree 4 vertices for each carbon atom.

Abstract
Density functional theory studies on the rhenatricarbaboranes C3Bn-4Hn-1Re(CO)3 (n = 7-12) show that the lowest energy polyhedra for n-vertex metallaboranes having 2n + 2 skeletal electrons and sufficiently dissimilar vertex atoms can deviate from the most spherical closo deltahedra predicted by application of the Wade-Mingos rules. Furthermore, the lowest energy structures of these rhenatricarbaboranes are found to avoid C-C edges and have carbon atoms located at degree 4 rather than degree 5 vertices. The lowest energy structures for the 7-vertex C3B3H6Re(CO)3 system all have a central C3B3Re closo deltahedron, namely the pentagonal bipyramid with the rhenium atom at a degree 5 axial vertex and all three carbon atoms at degree 4 equatorial vertices. However, the lowest energy structure for the 8-vertex C3B4H7Re(CO)3 is not the most spherical closo 8-vertex deltahedron, namely the bisdisphenoid, but instead a central C3B4Re hexagonal bipyramid with mutually nonadjacent degree 4 vertices for the carbon atoms. Similarly, the lowest energy 10-vertex C3B6H9Re(CO)3 structures are derived from isocloso deltahedra having three degree 4 vertices for all three carbon atoms rather than from the most spherical 10-vertex closo deltahedron, namely the bicapped square antiprism with only two degree 4 vertices. However, for the 9-vertex C3B5H8Re(CO)3 system, the most spherical closo deltahedron, namely the tricapped trigonal prism, has three mutually nonadjacent degree 4 vertices, which is ideal for the three carbon atoms and thus is the preferred deltahedron. The preferred deltahedron for the 11-vertex C3B7H10Re(CO)3 remains the most spherical closo deltahedron despite having only two degree 4 vertices for the carbon atoms. Furthermore, the six lowest energy 12-vertex C3B8H11Re(CO)3 structures are all based on the regular icosahedron generally favored in polyhedral borane chemistry despite its complete lack of degree 4 vertices for the carbon atoms.

Abstract
Technetium and Rhenium are the two lower elements in the manganese triad. Whereas rhenium is known as an important part of high resistance alloys, technetium is mostly known as a cumbersome product of nuclear fission. It is less known that its metastable isotope 99mTc is of utmost importance in nuclear medicine diagnosis. The technical application of elemental rhenium is currently complemented by investigations of its isotope 188Re , which could play a central role in the future for internal, targeted radiotherapy. This article will briefly describe the basic principles behind diagnostic methods with radionuclides for molecular imaging, review the 99mTc -based radiopharmaceuticals currently in clinical routine and focus on the chemical challenges and current developments towards improved, radiolabeled compounds for diagnosis and therapy in nuclear medicine.

Abstract
C-(2-Benzyloxy)-ethyl-C'-N-tert-butoxycarbonyl-aminomethyl-o-carborane (8), a potentially useful intermediate for BNCT, has been synthesised. This intermediate can be readily functionalised with several biological vectors and MRI contrast agents. In this work intermediate 8 has been functionalised with a palmityl chain for lipophilic targeting and with Gd(III)-DOTAMA-C(6)-NH(2) as MRI detector. This combination yielded Gd(III)-C-palmitamidomethyl-C'-DOTAMA-C(6)-o-carborane (14) as a dual MRI-BNCT agent.

Abstract
We have designed and synthesised a new carborane derivative containing two nitronyl nitroxides. This molecule can be considered as a prototype of a three-dimensional analogue of o-benzoquinodimethane. The magnetic susceptibility of a crystalline sample revealed that this biradical possesses a weak antiferromagnetic interaction (theta = -1.05(4) K) and an ESR study in frozen matrix in the 5.4-104 K range gave an intramolecular antiferromagnetic interaction of -27(2) K. The synthesis, physical properties and DFT calculation result are also reported.

Abstract
A series of metallocarboranes of the types rac-[M(CO)3(eta(5)-7-R-7,8-C2B9H11)]-, rac-[M(CO)3(eta(5)-7-R-8-R'-7,8-C2B9H11)]-, and rac-[M(CO)3(eta(5)-7-R-7,9-C2B9H11)]- (M=Re) were prepared by reacting [NEt4]2[Re(CO)3Br3] or [Re(CO)3(OH2)3]Br with the corresponding carboranes in the presence of aqueous solutions of either alkali metal or tetraalkylammonium fluoride salts. Carborane derivatives that were investigated included those containing pyridine, amino, carboxylic acid, carbohydrate, and aryl substituents. During the course of the research, it was discovered that Re metallocarboranes can be prepared directly from the respective closo-clusters under similar reaction conditions used with nido-carboranes. Reaction yields ranged from modest to excellent depending on the carborane isomer and the nature of the cage substituent(s). A crystal structure of an amine-substituted Re metallocarborane was obtained where the complex crystallized in the orthorhombic space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) with a=8.982(2) A, b=11.563(3) A, c=16.811(4) A, alpha=beta=gamma=90 degrees, V=1746.1(7) A3, Z=4, and R1=0.0684.

Abstract
The synthesis of a new ortho-carborane derivative, tetracarboranylketone 4, is reported here. Ketone 4 was prepared from a tetraalkynylated ketone by the addition of decaborane. The keto group was then easily modified to yield the glycosides 17alpha and 18beta, which contain glucose or galactose, respectively, and the nucleotide 13b. In addition to ketone 4, which is acyclic, cyclic ketone 8 was also synthesised. X-ray diffraction analysis of compound 4 indicated the presence of two toluene guest molecules per molecule of the host compound. Furthermore, compound 4 displays a rather low cytotoxicity. These novel products can be used as building blocks to create a new class of biomolecules containing high-density carborane clusters. Such molecules may constitute powerful tools for applications like Boron Neutron Capture Therapy or Energy-Filtering Transmission Electron Microscopy.

Abstract
Efforts to dehydrate (1,12-dicarba-closo-dodecaboran(12)-1-yl)formamide (a = 6.685(2) A, b = 12.877(4) A, c = 12.547(4) A, alpha = gamma = 90 degrees, beta = 90.724(11) degrees, V = 1080.8(6) A(3), Z = 4) resulted in the formation of a series of unexpected products. Addition of the Burgess reagent to the formamide, for example, led to the isolation of the corresponding methyl carbamate (a = 11.529(8) A, b = 11.529(8) A, c = 11.402(12) A, alpha = beta = gamma = 90 degrees, V = 1516(2) A(3), Z = 4), while treatment with triphosgene, a well-known dehydrating agent, resulted in the formation of a highly unusual 2,3-bis(p-carboranylimino)azetidine derivative. This particular compound, in the presence of Re(I), was hydrolyzed to give the corresponding amide, which is the first example of a 2,3-bis(imino)azetidine that has been characterized crystallographically (a = 38.496(13) A, b = 11.920(4) A, c = 27.523(10) A, beta = 127.050(5) degrees, V = 10079(6) A(3), Z = 8).
