Abstract
Supramolecular one-step self-assembly of dimanganese decacarbonyl, diaryl diselenide, and linear dipyridyl ligands (L = pyrazine (pz), 4,4'-bipyridine (bpy), and trans-1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene (bpe)) has resulted in the formation of selenolato-bridged manganese(I)-based metallorectangles. The synthesis of tetranuclear Mn(I)-based metallorectangles [{(CO)3Mn(μ-SeR)2Mn(CO)3}2(μ-L)2] (1-6) was facilitated by the oxidative addition of diaryl diselenide to dimanganese decacarbonyl with the simultaneous coordination of linear bidentate pyridyl linker in an orthogonal fashion. Formation of metallorectangles 1-6 was ascertained using IR, UV-vis, NMR spectroscopic techniques, and elemental analyses. The molecular mass of compounds 2, 4, and 6 were determined by ESI-mass spectrometry. Solid-state structural elucidation of 2, 3, and 6 by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods revealed a rectangular framework wherein selenolato-bridges and pyridyl ligands define the shorter and longer edges, respectively. Also, the guest binding capability of metallorectangles 3 and 5 with different aromatic guests was studied using UV-vis absorption and emission spectrophotometric titration methods that affirmed strong host-guest binding interactions. The formation of the host-guest complex between metallorectangle 3 and pyrene has been explicitly corroborated by the single-crystal X-ray structure of 3•pyrene. Moreover, select metallorectangles 1-4 and 6 were studied to explore their anticancer activity, while CO-releasing ability of metallorectangle 2 was further appraised using equine heart myoglobin assay.

Abstract
Ring-shaped Re(I) multinuclear complexes (Re(I) rings) in which Re(I)-diimine-biscarbonyl complexes are connected to each other through bisphosphine bridging ligands exhibit very suitable photophysical and electrochemical properties as redox photosensitizers. We developed two approaches for synthesizing Re(I) rings connected with a Ru(II) complex: cyclization of a linear Re(I) trinuclear complex connected with a Ru(II) complex and Mizoroki-Heck coupling of a ring-shaped Re(I) trinuclear complex and a Ru(II) complex. Photophysical measurements of these heteromultinuclear complexes and comparisons with their model complexes indicated that they exhibit efficient light-harvesting abilities, where energy transfer from the excited ring-shaped Re(I) trinuclear complex unit to the Ru(II) complex unit proceeds efficiently.

Abstract
The synthesis of flexible rhenium(I)-based amide-functionalized chalcogen-bridged tetranuclear metallacycles of general formula [{(CO)3Re(μ-ER)2Re(CO)3}2(μ-L)2] (1-8) was achieved by treating rhenium carbonyl with dialkyl/diaryl chalcogenide (RE-ER; E = S and Se) in the presence of ditopic flexible or semiflexible pyridyl ligand with amide functionality (L = N,N'-bis(4-pyridylcarboxamide)-1,2-ethane (bpce) and N,N'-bis(4-(4-pyridylcarboxamide)phenyl)methane (bpcpm)). Compounds 1-8 were formed by multicomponent self-assembly under one-pot reaction conditions via oxidative addition of dialkyl/diaryl chalcogenide to rhenium carbonyl with pyridyl ligands. The resultant metallacyclophanes were characterized using elemental analyses, infrared, ultraviolet-visible, and NMR spectroscopic techniques. Metallacyclophanes 1-3 and 7 were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The solvent-induced structural change of flexible tetranuclear metallacyclophane 2 was demonstrated by crystallizing 2 in dichloroethane and dimethylformamide. Molecular recognition capabilities of 2 and 7 were studied with few aromatic compounds containing ethereal linkages.

Abstract
An AgI dimer capped with labile organometallic diphosphorus ligands [Cp2 Mo2 (CO)4 (η2 -P2 )] (Cp=C5 H5 ) acts as a highly pre-organized molecular precursor to direct the construction of 1D or 2D, and 3D organometallic-organic hybrid coordination polymers upon reaction with ditopic pyridine-based linkers. The formation of the supramolecular aggregates can be controlled by the stoichiometry of the organic molecules, and the mechanism is supported by DFT calculations.

Abstract
Self-assembly of Cu(NO3 )2 ⋅3 H2 O and di(3-pyridylmethyl)amine (dpma) with addition of different acids (HNO3 , HOAc, HCl, HClO4 , HOTf, HPF6 , HBF4 , and H2 SO4 ) afforded a family of anion-templated tetragonal metallocages with a cationic prismatic structure of [(Gn- )⊂{Cu2 (Hdpma)4 }](8-n)+ (Gn- =NO3- , PF6- , SiF62- ) with different ligating anions/solvents (NO3- , Cl- , ClO4- , OTf- , H2 O) outside the cage. Systematic competitive experiments have rationalized the tendency of anion templation towards the formation of metallocages [(Gn- )⊂{Cu2 (Hdpma)4 }](8-n)+ as occurring in the order SiF62- ≈PF6- >NO3- >SO42- ≈ClO4- ≈BF4- . This sequence is mostly elucidated by shape control over size selectivity and electrostatic attraction between the cationic {Cu2 (Hdpma)4 }8+ host and the anionic guests. In addition, these results have also roughly ranked the anion coordination ability in the order Cl- , ClO4- , OTf- >NO3- >BF4- , CH3 SO4- . Magnetic studies of metallocages 1 t and 2-4 suggest that the fitted magnetic interaction, being weakly magnetically coupled overall, is interpreted as a result of the combination of intracage ferromagnetic coupling integrals and intercage antiferromagnetic exchange; both contributions are very weak and comparable in strength.

Abstract
Metal–organic polyhedra are three dimensional discrete structures typically constructed by the self-assembly of metal ions and ligands. The synthesis and geometry of discrete structures entirely rely on the choice of metal ions, ligand constraints such as steric bulk, bend angle, and functionalities, and the nature of applied solvents. As a result, they provide tailorable internal volume and usually hydrophobic nature to the cavity that in turn makes them one of the prominent host molecules for a range of applications. This review highlights the intervention of ligand constraints, precisely bend angle (0°, 60°, 120°, and 180°), hydroxyl functionalities, and the role of concepts such as molecular panelling and subcomponent self-assembly in the synthesis of polyhedra.

Abstract
Self-assembled metallacycles offer structural diversity and interesting properties based on their unique frameworks and host-guest chemistry. As a result, the design and synthesis of these materials has attracted significant research interest. This Account describes our comprehensive investigations of an effective orthogonal-bonding approach for the self-assembly of neutral Re-based metallacycles. We discuss the various types of assemblies that can be created based on the nuclearity of the luminophore, including bimetallic materials, rectangles, cages, and calixarenes. This approach permits the preparation of a rectangular molecule, rather than two molecular squares, in excellent yields. We extended this strategy to the high yield synthesis of a series of Re-based metallacycles with different shapes. With the rich spectroscopic and luminescence properties, Re(I) metallacycles provide an excellent platform for studies of host-guest interactions. When possible, we also present potential applications of the luminescent Re-based metallosupramolecular assemblies. The orthogonal-bonding approach involves the simultaneous introduction of two ligands: a bis-chelating ligand to coordinate to two equatorial sites of two fac-(CO)(3)Re cores and a monotopic or ditopic nitrogen-donor ligand to the remaining orthogonal axial site. Furthermore, by the appropriate choice of the predesigned organic ligands with various backbones and connectivity information and fac-Re(CO)(3) metal centers, we could also design other novel functional metallacycles including rotors, gondolas, cages, triangles, and metallacalixarenes in high yields. The incorporation of flexible ligands into the Re(I) metallacycles allows us to introduce various conformation states and novel structures. As a result, these structures acquire new functions, such as adaptive recognition properties. For example, we assembled Re(I)-based metallacyclic rotors via a one-step process. These rotors, which contain a para-phenylene unit that rapidly rotates within the metallacycles, are prototypes of a neutral altitudinal rotor. Most of the metallacycles are luminescent. The ability to chemically modify the organic ligands offers opportunities to create structural diversity and to tune the photophysical properties of these Re(I) metallacycles efficiently. Several strategies for increasing emission quantum yields and excited-state lifetimes and tuning the colors in Re(I) metallacycles are available. The cyclometalated ligands in Re(I) metallacycles improve excited state lifetimes and quantum yields, and these C-H bond-activated metallacycles are considerably more emissive than their non-C-H bond-activated analogues. The introduction of crown-ether-like recognition sites into neutral gondola-shaped metallacycles that selectively recognize metal ions also enhanced emission. Rhenium-based rectangular boxes, synthesized via a simple one-step route, contain a large and tunable hydrophobic inner cavity, which selectively recognizes benzene molecules. Such structures were the best host for benzene reported to date. In addition, we designed and synthesized novel neutral metallacalixarenes with tunable size, cavity, color, and functionality. These structures are efficient hosts for the recognition of planar aromatic guests.
