Abstract
A mixed valence tetranuclear iron complex [(Hpmide)FeII(NCSe)2FeIII(pmide)]2·5CH3OH (1) underwent oxidation and ligand exchange in the solid state (H2pmide = N-(2-pyridylmethyl)iminodiethanol). Upon air oxidation, 1 was converted into [(pmide)FeIII(NCSe)FeIII(pmide)]2(NCSe)2·2H2O (2), which was accompanied by deprotonation and ligand exchange through a single crystal-to-single-crystal transformation.

Abstract
A chiral trianionic ligand possessing one amide, one imine, two phenol functions and one asymmetric carbon atom into its diamino chain reacts with CuII ions to yield anionic [LCu]- units that crystallize in a non-centrosymmetric space group as infinite 1D zig-zag chains in which a transmission of chirality to the CuII ion is effective. The distorted square planar environment of the CuII ion is large enough to induce the presence of a stereogenic CuII centre. Further reaction with LnIII ions in presence of ancillary ligands does not preserve such an arrangement but yields a tetranuclear complex made of two [LCu-Ln] units in a head-to-tail position. The tetranuclear [LCu-Ln]2 complexes made with the racemic and chiral LCu units crystallize in different space groups, so that racemization does not occur. The structural determinations confirm that a symmetry centre is present in the two structures, except for the methyl groups linked to the chiral carbon atoms, which appear as disordered in the (S-S) tetranuclear entity. Such an arrangement implies a conformation change of the diamino chain linked to the CuII ion in one [LCu-Ln] unit of the (S-S) entity, and cancels any chirality contribution of the CuII ions, as in the meso compound. Ferromagnetic Cu-Ln interactions, resulting from an alternate distribution of the CuII and LnIII ions, are the only ones to be active. Eventually the micro-Squid studies confirm that the hysteresis loops of the corresponding racemate and chiral tetranuclear [LCu-Dy]2 entities are slightly different.

Abstract
A Schiff base ligand resulting from the reaction of ovanillin and 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-diaminopropane allows the preparation of hetero-dinuclear [Ni-Ln]3+ or -trinuclear [Ni-Ln-Ni]3+ complexes. Although empirical parameters for rationalizing the strength of the ferromagnetic Ni-Gd interaction have already been discussed in several papers, no systematic study has been devoted to the control of the nuclearity of such complexes. With the help of structural determinations, we demonstrate the role of solvent and of the nature of ancillary ligands, linked to the Ln ions, in nuclearity. For instance, the presence of one chelating nitrato ligand is already sufficient to impede an increase in the nuclearity, while the replacement of nitrato ligands by chloride anions still yields dinuclear Ni-Ln complexes. This experimental result evidences the role of protic solvents. In contrast, the use of lanthanide salts, soluble in non-protic solvents, allows the isolation of dinuclear [Ni-Ln]3+ or trinuclear cationic [LNi-Ln-NiL]3+ complexes, depending on the Ni/Ln ratio. A further synthetic step can be overtaken by the reaction of a Ni-Ln complex, soluble in a non-protic solvent, with a LM complex (M = Cu, Zn). By doing so, a heterotrinuclear complex made of three different metal ions, two distinct 3d ions and a 4f one, has been isolated and structurally characterized. Note that the Ni coordination number decreases from 6 to 5 on going from the dinuclear complex to the trinuclear one. Also, the replacement of water molecules by chloride ligands in the hexacoordinate Ni complexes induces a net increase of the positive zero-field splitting parameter D to 20 cm-1, which is supported by ab initio calculations. Although the Ni-Ln (Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy) magnetic interactions are ferromagnetic, the corresponding trinuclear complexes are devoid of SMM properties in the absence of an applied magnetic field.

Abstract
A boratriazine ligand, which incorporates attractive features from both bodipy and terpy, has been used to synthesize [Fe2II(μ1,1-N3)2(Py2F2BTA)2(N3)2] (1) and [Co2II(μ1,1-N3)2(Py2F2BTA)2(N3)2] (2). Both 1 and 2 feature a double end-on azido bridging motif, which promotes ferromagnetic interactions between the metal centres. Indeed, 1 represents the first report of a dinuclear FeII complex with this bridging mode exhibiting J = 5.7(9) cm-1 and D = -6.0(4) cm-1, while the isostructural Co analogue shows J = 7.1(9) cm-1 and D = 17.3(9) cm-1.

Abstract
Spin-crossover clusters with iron(II) high nuclearity are rare. By using 3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,2,4-triazole (bptH) as the ligand with two bidentate chelating sites, we successfully obtained three pentanuclear iron(II) cluster helicate compounds [{FeII(μ-bpt)3}2FeII3(μ3-O)][FeII2(μ-Br)(μ-bpt)(NCS)4(H2O)]·2H2O·C2H5OH (1), [{FeII(μ-bpt)3}2FeII3(μ3-O)][FeII2(μ-bpt)2(NCS)4] (2), and [{FeII(μ-bpt)3}2FeII3(μ3-O)]I2·2C2H5OH (3). Research on single-crystal structure and magnetism has indicated that tuning the spin state of two iron(II) ions in axial direction is successfully realized by regulating the different counter anions: one apical [FeII(bpt)3]− unit exhibits spin-crossover behavior while the other [FeII(bpt)3]− unit remains in low spin state in 1, both apical ions are of high spin states in 2, and are of low spin states in 3.

Abstract
A yellow crystal with {FeII4O4} cubes is modified to a black crystal with {FeIII4O4} cubes via a SC–SC transformation.
The very rare occurrence of a gas–solid chemical reaction has been found to take place on a molecule within a compact non-porous crystal without destroying its long-range structural order and retaining similar crystal structures when yellow crystals of FeII4(mbm)4Cl4(MeOH)4 were exposed to air to give black [FeIII4(mbm)4Cl4(OH)4]·2H2O. The latter cannot be synthesised directly. The original cluster underwent an exchange of methanol to hydroxide, an oxidation of Fe(ii) to Fe(iii), a change in stereochemistry and hydration while the packing and space-group remained unaltered.

Abstract
Pentagonal bipyramid FeII complexes have been investigated to evaluate their potential as Ising-spin building units for the preparation of heteropolynuclear complexes that are likely to behave as single-molecule magnets (SMMs). The considered monometallic complexes were prepared from the association of a divalent metal ion with pentadentate ligands that have a 2,6-diacetylpyridine bis(hydrazone) core (H2 LN3O2R ). Their magnetic anisotropy was established by magnetometry to reveal their zero-field splitting (ZFS) parameter D, which ranged between -4 and -13 cm-1 and was found to be modulated by the apical ligands (ROH versus Cl). The alteration of the D value by N-bound axial CN ligands, upon association with cyanometallates, was also assessed for heptacoordinated FeII as well as for related NiII and CoII derivatives. In all cases, N-coordinated cyanide ligands led to large magnetic anisotropy (i.e., -8 to -18 cm-1 for Fe and Ni, +33 cm-1 for Co). Ab initio calculations were performed on three FeII complexes, which enabled one to rationalize the role of the ligand on the nature and magnitude of the magnetic anisotropy. Starting from the pre-existing heptacoordinated complexes, a series of pentanuclear compounds were obtained by reactions with paramagnetic [W(CN)8 ]3- . Magnetic studies revealed the occurrence of ferromagnetic interactions between the spin carriers in all the heterometallic systems. Field-induced slow magnetic relaxation was observed for mononuclear FeII complexes (Ueff /kB up to 53 K (37 cm-1 ), τ0 =5×10-9 s), and SMM behavior was evidenced for a heteronuclear [Fe3 W2 ] derivative (Ueff /kB =35 K and τ0 =4.6 10-10 s), which confirmed that the parent complexes were robust Ising-type building units. High-field EPR spectroscopic investigation of the ZFS parameters for a Ni derivative is also reported.

Abstract
The work in this report describes the syntheses, characterization, crystal structures and magnetic properties of eight linear trinickel(ii) compounds of the composition [Ni(II)3(L(sal-pyr))2(propionate)4] (), [Ni(II)3(L(sal-pyr))2(benzoate)4]·CH3CN (), [Ni(II)3(L(sal-pip))2(acetate)4]·2CH3CN (), [Ni(II)3(L(sal-pip))2(propionate)4] (), [Ni(II)3(L(sal-pip))2(benzoate)4]·CH2Cl2 (), [Ni(II)3(L(sal-mor))2(propionate)4] (), [Ni(II)3(L(sal-mor))2(benzoate)4]·3CH2Cl2 () and [Ni(II)3(L(sal-mor))2(o-Cl-benzoate)4]·2CH3CN·2H2O (), where HL(sal-pyr), HL(sal-pip) and HL(sal-mor) are the 1 : 1 condensation products of salicylaldehyde and 1-(2-aminoethyl)-pyrrolidine, 1-(2-aminoethyl)-piperidine and 4-(2-aminoethyl)-morpholine, respectively. One-half of the trinuclear core in each complex is symmetry related to the second part due to the presence of an inversion centre on the central metal ion and so the terminal nickelcentral nickelterminal nickel angle is 180°. The terminal and central nickel(ii) ions are triply bridged by a phenoxo, a μ1,1-carboxylato and a μ1,3-carboxylato moiety. The μ1,1-carboxylato also acts as a chelating ligand for the terminal metal ion. Both the variable-temperature (2-300 K) susceptibilities at a fixed field strength of 0.1 T and variable-field (up to 7 T) magnetization at different fixed temperatures (2-10 K) were recorded. The magnetic data indicate the ferromagnetic interaction in all the cases with J (Ĥ = -2Jij∑SiSj) values ranging between 2.37 and 3.89 cm(-1) and the single-ion zero-field parameter (D) ranging between 7.21 and 8.94 cm(-1). Satisfactorily simulation of both the χMT vs. T and M vs. H data has been obtained. Comparison of the structures and magnetic properties of compounds with those of the previously published related systems reveals some interesting aspects.

Abstract
Spin crossover by means of an electric bias is investigated by spin-polarized density-functional theory calculations combined with the Keldysh nonequilibrium Green's technique in a molecular junction, where an individual single-molecule magnet Fe{2}(acpybutO)(O{2}CMe)(NCS){2} is sandwiched between two infinite Au(100) nanoelectrodes. Our study demonstrates that the spin crossover, based on the Stark effect, is achieved in this molecular junction under an electric bias but not in the isolated molecule under external electric fields. The main reason is that the polarizability of the molecular junction has an opposite sign to that of the isolated molecule, and thus from the Stark effect the condition for the spin crossover in the molecular junction is contrary to that in the isolated molecule.
