Abstract
A three-dimensional terbium(III) coordination polymer of formula [Tb(bttb)0.5(2,5-pzdc)0.5]n (1) [H4bttb = 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(4'-carboxyphenyl)benzene and H2-2,5-pzdc = 2,5-pyrazinedicarboxylic acid] was obtained under hydrothermal conditions. The bttb4- tetraanion in 1 adopts the bridging and chelating-bridging pseudo-oxo coordination modes while the 2,5-pzdc2- dianion exhibits a rather unusual bis-bidentate bridging pseudo-oxo coordination mode, both ligands being responsible for the stiffness of the resulting 3D structure. Solid-state photoluminescent measurements illustrate that 1 exhibits remarkable green luminescence emission, the most intense band occurring in the region of 550 nm (5D4 → 7F5) with lifetimes at the millisecond scale. Thermometric performances of 1 reveal a maximum relative sensitivity (Sm) of 0.76% K-1 at 295 K (δT = 0.05 K), constituting a TbIII ratiometric solid luminescent thermometer over the physiological temperature range. Variable-temperature static (dc) magnetic susceptibility measurements for 1 in the temperature range 2.0-300 K show the expected behavior for the depopulation of the splitted mJ levels of the 7F7 ground state of the magnetically anisotropic terbium(III) ion plus a weak antiferromagnetic interaction through the carboxylate bridges. No significant out-of-phase magnetic susceptibility signals were observed for 1 in the temperature range 2.0-10.0 K, either in the absence or presence of a static dc magnetic field.

Abstract
Herein a 1D Co(II) coordination polymer of formula [Co(η1-L1)(η2-L1)(py)2(H2O)]n (CoCP) has been synthesised using the rigid H2L1 proligand, containing a long spacer bearing two triple bonds. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction showed that Co(II) adopts a distorted octahedral geometry. The state-averaged complete active self-consistent field (SA-CASSCF) calculation showed that the ground state of CoCP is a high spin quartet with a highly multiconfigurational character of its electronic structure. Due to the large intra- and intermolecular distances between the spin carriers, the magnetic interactions are negligible and the zero-field splitting (ZFS) effects of cobalt(II) ions are predominant. This behavior was confirmed by direct current (DC) magnetic measurements and theoretical calculations using the broken-symmetry approach. Quantum chemical calculations indicate that CoCP has a negative axial component possessing mixed tri-axial anisotropy. The DC magnetic susceptibility data were fitted with a Griffith-Figgis Hamiltonian and the obtained parameters are in good agreement with those simulated by the ab initio calculation. Alternating current (AC) magnetic measurements showed a field induced slow magnetic relaxation in CoCP, which is attributed to the hyperfine interaction effects.

Abstract
Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania, which has very limited treatment options and affects poor and underdeveloped populations. The current treatment is plagued by many complications, such as high toxicity, high cost and resistance to parasites; therefore, novel therapeutic agents are urgently needed. Herein, the synthesis, characterization and in vitro leishmanicidal potential of new complexes with the general formula [RuCl3(TMP)(dppb)] (1), [PtCl(TMP)(PPh3)2]PF6 (2) and [Cu(CH3COO)2(TMP)2]·DMF (3) (dppb = 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane, PPH3 = triphenylphosphine and TMP = trimethoprim) were evaluated. The complexes were characterized by infrared, UV-vis, cyclic voltammetry, molar conductance measurements, elemental analysis and NMR experiments. Also, the geometry of (2) and (3) were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Despite being less potent against promastigote L. amazonensis proliferation than amphotericin B reference drug (IC50 = 0.09 ± 0.02 μM), complex (2) (IC50 = 3.6 ± 1.5 μM) was several times less cytotoxic (CC50 = 17.8 μM, SI = 4.9) in comparison with amphotericin B (CC50 = 3.3 μM, SI = 36.6) and gentian violet control (CC50 = 0.8 μM). Additionally, complex (2) inhibited J774 macrophage infection and amastigote number by macrophages (IC50 = 6.6 and SI = 2.7). Outstandingly, complex (2) was shown to be a promising candidate for a new leishmanicidal therapeutic agent, considering its biological power combined with low toxicity.

Abstract
Emissions of SO2 from flue gas and marine transport have detrimental impacts on the environment and human health, but SO2 is also an important industrial feedstock if it can be recovered, stored and transported efficiently. Here we report the exceptional adsorption and separation of SO2 in a porous material, [Cu2(L)] (H4L = 4',4‴-(pyridine-3,5-diyl)bis([1,1'-biphenyl]-3,5-dicarboxylic acid)), MFM-170. MFM-170 exhibits fully reversible SO2 uptake of 17.5 mmol g-1 at 298 K and 1.0 bar, and the SO2 binding domains for trapped molecules within MFM-170 have been determined. We report the reversible coordination of SO2 to open Cu(II) sites, which contributes to excellent adsorption thermodynamics and selectivities for SO2 binding and facile regeneration of MFM-170 after desorption. MFM-170 is stable to water, acid and base and shows great promise for the dynamic separation of SO2 from simulated flue gas mixtures, as confirmed by breakthrough experiments.

Abstract
Background Various dinuclear copper (II) complexes with octahedral geometry have been reported. The majority of these complexes contain N containing aromatic rings as axial ligands. There are also a few cases where the solvent used in the reaction occupies the axial position of the dinuclear copper (II) complex. This may occur by planned synthesis or some times by serendipity. Here we report some four copper (II) complexes containing solvent and or N containing heterocyclic ring as the axial ligand. Results Four compounds, each containing dinuclear Copper (II) units (with the most robust, frequently occurring paddle wheel structures) were synthesized and characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction and by IR spectroscopy. The compounds 1 & 2 have the general formula Cu2(RCOO) 4(L)2 [(for (1) RCOO= 4-Chloro Benzoate, L= Isopropanol; for 2 RCOO= Benzoate, L= 2-Amino-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine )] while 3 & 4 have the general formula, Cu2(RCOO) 4(S)2 Cu2(RCOO) 4(L)2 [RCOO=5-Chloro-thiophene-2-carboxylate L= 2-Amino-4,6-dimethyl pyrimidine, for 3 S= ethanol; for 4 S= methanol ]. A wide range of hydrogen bonds (of the O-H…O, N-H…O and N-H…N type) and π-π stacking interactions are present in the crystal structures. Conclusions All compounds contain the dinuclear units, in which two Cu (II) ions are bridged by four syn, syn-η1:η1:μ carboxylates, showing a paddle-wheel cage type with a distorted octahedral geometry. The compounds 1 &2 contain a single dimeric unit while 3 &4 contain two dimeric units. The structures 3 and 4 are very interesting co-crystals of two paddle wheel molecules. Also it is interesting to note that the compounds 3 &4 are isostructural with similar cell parameters. Both the compounds 3 &4 differ in the solvent molecule coordinated to copper in one of the dimeric units. In all the four compounds, each of the copper dimers has an inversion centre. Every copper has a distorted octahedral centre, formed by four oxygen atoms (from different carboxylate) in the equatorial sites. The two axial positions are occupied by copper and the corresponding ligand.
